There are also many sights to take in along the river including a 16' waterfall, and many rapids. The Arden Grade Road between the guest house and river was once a main route through the mountains for the B&O railway during the early 1900’s. Sightseeing is everywhere locally and in nearby parks. Moats Falls is located about 4 miles downstream and is a breathtaking river wide waterfall. The 16’ vertical drop is easy to access on foot by crossing the natural stone bridge that leads to a house size boulder upstream of the falls. There are many sandy beaches and places to explore along the riverbanks, as well as trails to hike and mountain bike. POPULAR NEARBY STATE PARKS/RECREATION AREAS • Tygart Lake State Park. The is a nearby park where all types of lake recreation and activities are available. Rent a pontoon for the day or jump on a jet ski. • Audra State Park. The Middle Fork River flows though tight channels and larger boulders. Amazing kayaking, fishing, hiking and swimming are all available at this park and the views are amazing! • Blackwater Falls State Park. This popular attraction is about an hour from the Guest House featuring a stunning waterfall dropping 65 feet! This area is also home to some of the best Mountain Biking in the state of West Virginia. Stop in the local bike shop, Blackwater Bikes to find out about the trails and plan to spend hours riding on trails ranging from beginner to expert. The Allegheny Trail offers a rail trail ride that’s great for riders of all types and can be accessed in Parsons. TRAVEL TIMES The house is about 40 minutes from Clarksburg, 1 hour from Morgantown, 2 ½ hours from Pittsburgh, 2 ½ hours from Charleston and about 4 hours from Washington D.C. We thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor space, with the younger of us having fun in the river. The house was really beautiful, and well-appointed. The beds were exceptionally comfortable. There's a lot of living space inside and out. The host lives next door and has 2 large, friendly dogs, who enjoyed visiting us. Two families (4 kids) stayed here. Enough space for the kids to do their own thing without bothering parents, when they weren't in the river. Every year the home seems to have been updated in a way that makes every aspect of your stay even more enjoyable, and convienent. This year, the owners have provided portable air-conditioners in the upper bedrooms to help combat the warm air that is hard to combat in this beautiful old (albiet immactulately restored) country-house. Surrounded in total beauty, there's nothing to not love about the area. If you're from or familar with WV, you understand you're going to drive about 20 minutes to reach your nearest grocery/convienece store, but I'd assume that's what you're looking for if you're considering this area to begin with. The owners dogs will greet you as you come and go each day. They join my partner and I on our daily walks, which seems to carry this spiritual vibe, like these pups are guiding and protecting you on your journey. These dogs are also great with other dogs. We have two of our own, and have never had any issues. Thank you for all you do to provide such a lovely spot in an area that does not otherwise provide many options for those looking for the all the creature comforts during their stay. ##### Erica P. We had such a great time here. The house is beautiful and clean with a gorgeous river view. There is so much space with the bedrooms to have space and it is also great for time together. We loved the river and our kids swam right there and also down the road a little bit where there is a beach. Town is close with food stores, restaurants, etc. Owners are such a great family who are right next door and so very helpful.
