Elegant and welcoming, Villa Romantica embraces you as you enter and delights you throughout your stay. 18 Foot Ceilings with 20 inch thick walls keeps the house cool. Gorgeous custom-made four poster beds in all of the three large air-conditioned bedrooms. Quality linen. Each bedroom has it's own private bathroom. . Villa Romantica is the perfect home to make your vacation a splendid one. The Space The entire home is yours during your stay. What unfolds before you is truly a colonial masterpiece. Complete with high arches that envelop a stunning central courtyard which you may never want to leave. At the heart of the courtyard is the beautiful pool which is irresistible on a warm tropical day. The line between indoors and outdoors is blurred in this spectacularly designed home. This home is a creation of renowned local architect Henry Ponce and features an indoor/outdoor kitchen and dining room as well as a spacious indoor/outdoor living room that surrounds the courtyard and pool. On the ground floor there are two spacious air conditioned bedrooms, each with their own private bathroom for your privacy and comfort. Each bedroom has a four poster KING sized bed. Also on the ground floor is a formal living room where you can watch Netflix TV in air conditioned comfort. Leading from the indoor/outdoor living room is the grand staircase which is itself a work of art. At the top of the staircase is the master suite which overlooks the courtyard. This air-conditioned bedroom has 2 queen sized beds and has it's own private bathroom with a beautiful atrium. Also on the upper level is a huge rooftop deck with a view of the city. Ideal place for your morning coffee or getting some more sun. When night falls you will be faced with a tough decision. Do you go up the stairs and enjoy the starry night sky and listen to the sounds of the city including the clip clop, clippity clop of horse drawn carriages? Or maybe simply relax on the day bed besides the pool next to the downstairs courtyard and enjoy the incredible ambiance created by the lighting and fountains in the pool. Lounging in the two hammocks over the pool means the pool is just below and the stars are way above. A perfect relaxation spot! We provide unlimited music selection with Alexa so if you're in the mood for some music, simply ask Alexa to play your favourite songs. Guest access Before your arrival to Villa Romantica, you will be asked to confirm your anticipated time of arrival. We will send you detailed check-in instructions and you can check-in at any time after 4 pm using our lock box. Our property manager is just a phone call away if needed. It is our intention that you have a fabulous experience; that Villa Romantica is a place of relaxation and joy for you and that Merida and the Yucatan be a source of adventure and wonder. You will have access to PM23 (Property Manager) throughout your stay should you need a helping hand or someone to point you in a particular direction. Interaction with guests Property managers will be at your service at any time. Other things to note Electricity is not included. The property manager will take a photo of the electric meter upon arrival and another photo at check-out. For a more accurate reading, when you check in take a photo of the electric meter and send the photo via message. The cost of electricity can be paid in pesos in cash or payment request through VRBO. The cost is 3.50 pesos per kilowatt-hours (kWh). Kids must be supervised around the pool and roof top deck at all times. One complimentary house cleaning is provided for a stay of one week. For stays longer than one week, we offer complimentary cleaning every 4-5 days. We can also arrange extra housekeeping for an extra fee. Some basics such as juice, coffee, sugar, milk are provided to start you off. If you would like any extra items, please let us know so that we can arrange for you. Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Lotion are provided in each bathroom. The pool is cleaned weekly on Thursdays. Netflix is available and signed in on the TV. Alexa is available to play your favourite tunes and check weather or get jokes :-) The neighborhood !!LOCATION\*\*LOCATION\*\*LOCATION!! You won't find a better more convenient location than Villa Romantica. It is ideally located in the Historical Centre of Mérida. Should you be able to tear yourself away from your private retreat, you'll find the best that Merida has to offer just steps away. Santa Lucia Park with some of the best restaurants is just a five minute walk . Paseo De Montejo, the wide boulevard lined by mansions built in the 19th century is only a three minute walk. From here, you can take a tour of Paseo on a horse and carriage. The Plaza Grande, the heart of Merida culture and architecture is less than a ten minute walk. It is the home of the impressive, large and beautiful Catedral de San Ildefonso. Getting around Taxis are safe, Uber is very affordable and currently operates in Merida and is very reliable. A public bus stops on the nearest corner. Ask the property manager what bus to take to where. Most popular on-line street map apps such as google are also very reliable. Street parking is available and depending on the time of day may get a spot directly in front of the house. We have rented properties all over the world, but will never forget this oasis of cool calm near the very center of Merida. We were wowed by the online pictures, but they don't quite do justice to the scale of the place--it's huge! After hot days climbing Mayan ruins, it was the perfect place to come home to. Merida is a dense, busy city--but step through the door of Villa Romantica and you instantly relax. Nothing was missing--kitchen well equipped, beds comfy, A/C well-functioning. The hosts also go out of their way to offer ideas and suggestions during your stay. For instance, they connected us with their recommended driver, who was really more like a tour guide. He suggested different cenotes than we’d planned on seeing, and omg are we glad we listened to him! I’ve been in a lot of cenotes, including scuba diving in one, and the place he took us was like out of a movie. The hosts also suggested a massage therapist, which really helped my 70-yr-old dad when he was having hip and leg pain. I wanted to book here again for our next vacation, which was several months away, but this place was already booked! Get a spot here if you can. ##### April J. Before we arrived, our host Colum was incredibly responsive and accommodating with any questions we had. During our stay, he texted us often to make sure that our stay was perfect. One of the highlights of our stay was Colum's helpful suggestions. He provided us with a list of must-visit attractions, local restaurants, and some of the hidden gems in the area. Thanks to his recommendations, we were able to explore and experience the city and truly immerse ourselves in the vibrant culture of Merida. The villa itself was absolutely amazing. The charming architecture and tasteful decor created a romantic and cozy atmosphere that made us feel right at home. There were three bedrooms, each with an attached bath. The rooms were very spacious, clean, and well-maintained, providing us with a comfortable retreat after a long day of exploring the city. It was hard to believe that on the other side of such a simple looking facade, was an hacienda style, instagrammable magnificence. The rustic decor, the high ceilings, the archways and the lighting in all the right places gave the house a charming and romantic vibe. The icing on the cake, was the atrium and the pool within the living space was the cherry. I don’t think it could’ve gotten better than those features… until we got to the top of the house. Wow! Really blown away… a view of perfection. The lounging and relaxation space was so well thought out with such beautiful and colorful furniture and decor. The view of the town was pretty good. I didn’t want to leave the house. Each bedroom was spacious with its own spacious bathroom and its own air conditioning unit that is a must for those really hot moments. We have been renting vacation rentals in various destinations for over 15 years, now & I have to say that EVERY PART of this experience has been the BEST one EVER! And that is saying a LOT since we have had some spectacular hosts & stayed in some absolutely beautiful homes! The villa is absolutely gorgeous. The photos do not do it justice. They do a good job displaying how beautiful it is, but they cannot convey the FEELING you get standing in the courtyard or enjoying the rooftop deck. Most days, I was torn on which spot I wanted to sit & read. The whole place was clean & had everything we needed except maybe a grill would have been nice. The outside is SO unassuming...it was quite funny seeing our kids (13 & 16) as we pulled up. They were thoroughly unimpressed - it didn't improve much as we first entered the villa. LOL! But THEN I opened the doors leading to the courtyard, kitchen & pool. Their eyes were as big as saucers & they kept asking "is this ALL for us???" That was when I told them, "but WAIT! There's MORE!" & we went up to the rooftop deck. We stayed for 8 days & it got even better each day! Soco is just 2 doors down & VERY delicious for breakfast & lunch. Great coffee, too. It is a very walkable area & quite safe. In fact, I felt safer walking around Merida after dark than I would in DFW where we live. Now...let me tell you about Natalie. It was so beautiful, well functioning with many different areas for people to hang out either in the cool downstairs or beautiful roof top. AC worked well at night and sleeping was quiet and comfortable. Hosts were very helpful with local activity recommendations. We were tracking with a group from 18-81 years old and everyone was blow away with the space! If you think the pictures are beautiful, it is even better in person. Every room (and outdoor space) had so many unique design details. The downstairs king bed was very comfortable. The location was great for walking to everything - restaurants, shops, and the tree lined Paseo de Montejo. We felt 100% safe walking around the neighborhood, day or night. You walk in and everything is exquisitely decorated and everything is hand selected for you to have a perfect experience in this house. The smallest detail for your stay has been thought about, the music system with Alexa, the lighting of the courtyard, the bedrooms being so comfortable and quite (sleep is everything to us). The property manager/owner was so incredibly responsive and thoughtful. This is a historic home that has been restored to its original glory fit for the aristocratic which it was built for.
