Good location on the edge of the CBD. Close to all public transport. Property is good. Some minor bumps and bruises (few scratches, dints in walls etc) but overall a comfortable place to stay.

We stayed at the comfy deluxe room for 5 nights. Easy access to Queen Victoria Market and Tourist Tram 35. Walking distance to city centre. Approachable and swift reception staff. Attentive housekeepers. Friendly F&B staff. Generally pleasant, but... Disappointedly, the experience was marred by a single staff - the manager on duty on night of 13 June 2022. On that night after returning to the hotel, we requested for 2 bottles of drinking water, but we were told that the hotel does not provide drinking water for free. If we did not want to pay, we could drink from the toilet tap... (while we trust that Mel's tap water is potable, this response from the staff does make us feel like cheapstakes!) We are frequent travellers and have stayed at various international and local hotel brands. We have not experienced such unprofessional conduct and lack of customer service before! Due to this, we had to brace ourselves in the bitter-cold night to get 2 bottles of drinking water from a convenience store. To reiterate, it is not about paying for drinking water. It is about the poor handling of the situation by the manager. =( We were returning customers. Not sure about the next time.
