This year did not disappoint. There was so much room for activities. We built a fire outside, while the kids used roller blades to pretend the basketball court was an ice skating rink. It's a really nice place with comfortable beds, a great table for board games, and a super short drive to Woodstock, which has some really good restaurants. Amber, our host, was friendly and communicative, even going so far as to ask her neighbors to send a video of the snowy roads so we can get a sense of how treacherous they were (they were fine; we had no problems). I'm already thinking about when I can come back with my wife and kids. I've stayed in many houses like this in the Shenandoah valley, and I really think was one of the best ones I've found. The house was beautiful and comfortable for our party of 9\. The yard is very spacious and was perfect for basketball, volleyball, soccer, Kan Jam - really, for any outdoor game! We enjoyed the fire pit with plenty of room to gather around, and the hot tub. Every day we spent time in the river tubing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, and looking for crayfish. We also enjoyed walks or runs on the quiet main road, which has beautiful views of the mountains all around. If you are looking for a place to unwind and enjoy the beauty and solitude of nature, you will love this riverfront retreat! And the owner, Amber, was great to work with! ##### Nicole A. It was a short stay for us, only two days, but we loved every minute of it. We were looking for a place to break up the 11 hour drive home from Tennessee to NY and we were fortunate to have found this location.The scenery is jaw dropping. I would describe it better here, but that would ruin the incredible surprise you get when you turn the corner just minutes from the house and see it for the first time…The house was beautiful and spotless and contained everything necessary to feel at home. We cooked dinner both nights and everything we needed was available. We had a great time hanging out by the fire at night and all of the firewood was provided for. My dog had a better time running around on the massive front lawn. Unfortunately we did not get to make use of the river access, but it is very convenient (at the edge of the driveway) and all of the equipment is available for use.Lastly, Amber by far was the most attentive and responsive host I’ve experienced thus far. I annoyed her with questions three separate times and her responses were almost instantaneous. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with my stay and highly recommend! ##### Robert D. Dec 5, 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Thanksgiving Celebration We made a great choice in choosing the Riverfront Retreat for our Thanksgiving celebration. The large dining table fit our group and its close proximity to the kitchen made serving and cleanup a breeze. One bedroom is set apart from the others which worked perfectly for one couple who ducked out at 5am to catch a flight out of Dulles (about an hours drive) without disturbing others in the group. We enjoyed hiking in Seven Bends State Park and even toured the Shenandoah Caverns (a short drive). Woodstock has limited restaurant opportunities for dinner but the Woodstock Brewery never disappointed. The Woodstock Food Lion was excellent for groceries. The weather was cold during our stay so we did not partake of many of the outdoor amenities. Our gathering around the firepit was cut short by rain. In better weather, there would have been so much more to do outdoors around the property. But we were content in the very comfortable indoors just visiting and eating. Great property!
