Try the private onsens! This hotel must have once been a grand establishment, but unfortunately the years have not been too kind to it. Many parts of the hotel are showing their age, and the place now feels too large and empty for the amount of business it sustains. We do want to give credit to the hotel staff for their kind service, and the rooms are really spacious even by Western standards. The highlight of our stay was a 45-minute session in one of the private onsen rooms (reservations highly recommended!) Other than that, the public baths were decent and clean, the buffet breakfast had a large variety of foods to choose from, and we certainly can't complain about the free parking (even if we did have to walk across the street with our luggage to access the main part of the hotel). The hotel itself is a 5-7 minute drive from the main part of Matsuyama City. The only hotel available was the Hotel Okudogo and I am glad it was. The dinner buffet was amazing with great versions of American and Japanese food selection. Since there was a hot springs festival in town they had a lot of tourist groups there for for their on site hot springs so ended up getting a free upgrade to one of their 5 private hot spring rooms to make room in the standard rooms for the groups. These 5 private rooms were amazing. Very authentic Japanese feel to the rooms and the rooms private hot spring was great. Very clean hotel and the staff didn't hesitate 1 second to go out of their way to help me out. Only problem I had with the hotel was that is was so far away from Matsuyama Airport, but this couldn't not be helped and does not effect my great experience.
