Perfect Weekend Getaway
What a beautiful property! We did a quick couples getaway and couldn’t have had a nicer weekend. The house is a beautiful, wraparound porch country home. Floorplan was really well designed and the decor was spot on. Looking forward to coming back next fall as well!

Waterfront wonderland!
Spectacular! That sums up this gorgeous house and property. What an awesome spot with water all around. It felt like we were away from it all; but also close to the quaint town of Cambridge and beauty of Blackwater refuge. Jon was great to connect to and responsive to every question and need. We were 14 college friends now in our 60's and the house never felt crowded. There are so many spaces inside and out to gather. The kitchen was well stocked and the 2nd frig came in handy. Jon set us up with his crab guy and we started with a bushel of hard shells. The leftovers were made into the best crab cakes ever!! This place is extra special, we loved it! Thank you!!

Thanks Robin! While most of our guests are families, we get a number of friend, etc. groups each year and you were SO lovely to work with. Indeed we designed our home to accommodate lots of folks but still feel warm - glad we helpd you have an outstanding stay! And remember - crabs are what the Chesapeake is all about!

Perfect Family Vacation
We couldn't have asked for a better vacation. The house was large enough to accommodate all 11 of us and had enough space that we didn't feel on top of each other. The kids loved the 3rd floor zone. The house was well equipped with everything we needed for a fun time. The dock was perfect for catching fish, crabs, and even rays. The kayaks were great for early morning or late afternoon rides. The pool was huge and allowed us to cool off. The host was very responsive to our questions. We enjoyed it so much we've already booked the house for next year.

Fun at Saddle Beach
I was looking for a river vacation with my family…something different than the Outer Banks we usually do. We ended the river and dock the most. The kids crabbed off it with the pots all week and caught 8 keepers. We were able to keep the boat tied there for our early morning crabbing and fishing trips. It would have been better if we could have used the boat lift there…we had a pretty good storm and heavy rain that had us out there bailing out the boat in the midst of the heavy rain around 9:30 PM. Caught 1 1/2 bushels of VERY nice hard crabs over the course of our stay that were so clean and delicious. Caught a few fish, but nothing big. The pool was also a favorite. Air conditioning was excellent and the tubs are all excellent. My bed was comfortable. The kitchen had everything you could need and the extras they provide was very nice: toilet paper, soap, p towels, etc. We had a few glitches but our host was excellent in dealing with those issues very quickly. Improvements would be to not have us clean and put away all the towels before we left. That was a problem.

Joanne and her family were lovely guests! They really took advantage of everything we and the area have to offer; fishing, crabbing (we have the BEST spot for crabs) boating, hiking and more. We love helping all our guests and guiding them with boating needs (where to rent them, how to use the bilge pump, etc), where to roam with our own (6!) kayaks and canoes, the best restaurants, shopping, tourism, recreation and more. Thanka Joanne - come again!

Saddlebeach
We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Saddlebeach. The house and grounds were everything we were hoping for and more. There were 15 of us- 10 adults and 5 kids ranging in age from 2 to 10. There was plenty of bedroom and bathroom space. The children were especially happy to have the pool to jump into and the dock to fish from. The list of restaurants Jon provided was very useful - we found Old Salty's which we really liked. We all had a wonderful time and are looking forward to coming back next summer

Carol was just lovely to work with, they even brought two dogs and were well behaved! Seems like everybody in Carol’s party is a pleasure. She rented our seven bedroom waterfront home, and we would love to have her back.

We ended up at Jon's property b/c our original VRBO had a last minute utility breakage that wasn't going to be able to be fixed by the time of our arrival. Being good neighbors (which says a lot), they worked with Jon to offer us a comparable stay on this property instead. The communication & amount of helpful detail on the area that I got from Jon FAR exceeded anything I've had from other rentals anywhere, and his outreach was not only super detailed, but personable & friendly, by text, email and by phone. If you're wondering what you're going to "do" in the area, go ahead & rent & when Jon sends you his list of things in the area you won't wonder any more. I wish this host had properties elsewhere in the US too! The property itself is GORGEOUS - I hope occasion will bring our group back again at another time to explore other seasons. Sufficiently isolated to feel free & easy, yet close enough to town for meals out every night if we wanted (and a big ol kitchen if we didn't), this place really has it all, and every person in my group was pleased. It's a bit odd for paper products to not be already available, but Walmart is easy, and the property is a bit further from BWI than we would have liked, but you don't get gorgeous countryside right near an international airport. Totally worth it :) It was March when our group travelled, and I bet the lakefront & surrounding areas are even more beautiful in the summer & fall. Definitely recommended, would absolutely rent again.

What a gracious review Amy thank you. Oh my, paper products are ALWAYS there! But we took her offseason booking last minute to handle her cancelled stay and missed something in the rush. Amy of course was wonderful, as was her party. We so enjoy helping our guest families and groups plan for an exceptional stay at our property and in the area. We love to assist with tourism, dining, shopping and recreation and great memories result. We get some many wonderful folks coming back every year and hope to have Amy back as well.

Christmas Holiday Family Getaway
Saddle Beach was roomy, well equipped and very comfortable for our Family Holiday getaway! We enjoyed card & board games by the indoor gas fireplace, and talks around the outdoor fire pit. Cornhole games, long walks/runs, and trips to the wildlife refuge and Tubman Museum filled out the week. Good times for all!

We are a warm-weather paradise, yet we have a ton of families and friend groups that enjoy the property year-round. Lots to do here in colder months; from boating and biking to sightseeing and restaurant adventures. Mostly? Enjoying the home; cooking and spending quality time with friends.

Perfect House for a Big Family
We spent Thanksgiving at this property, and we had a ball! Family members from Texas and California flew in and family from DC drove over. The kitchen was well stocked for roasting a turkey and making all the sides, including two kinds of stuffing. Thank goodness for double ovens! Everyone slept comfortably, and there was plenty of room to spread out. We did s'mores over the fire pit, took long walks, rode bikes and sat out on the dock watching the water. It couldn't have been any better. The owners were so helpful with suggestions of where to go. The seafood from the Kool Ice & Seafood was outstanding. And Emily's Produce was so amazing, we stopped by pretty much every day. The den area was so big with comfortable seating, and we sat around the fireplace and watched the Thanksgiving Day parade, played games, puzzles, visited, etc. We would love to come back. It's just a beautiful area of the United States.

Beautiful setting and plenty of space
Jon is a super attentive host and his place is one of the nicest properties in the Woolford/Cambridge area. Kids caught crabs off the dock and enjoyed the canoes and kayaks Jon supplied. House had more than enough space for the adults and kids to all relax and eat together.

The house provided great accommodations for our large, extended family, and the pool and third floor were great for the grandchildren. It was a very hot week, so we understand the challenges for the AC, but we couldn’t get the main floor or the third floor cool.

John was an exceptional guest! We SO wish they'd reached out about any cooling issues. We have three systems at the house and would have jumped at the chance to address it, and make them more comfortable. Even with the record heat wave that week.

We stayed at Jonathan's home for our multigenerational family reunion and Easter gathering. The home was incredible, with more than enough space to spread out for the adults and kids, and it had all the supplies and amenities we needed for family meals, daytime activities (from swimming in the pool to kayaking), and nightttime smores by the water. Jonathan was an incredible host. He was highly responsive, transparent, and worked with us to accomodate our particular needs. We will definitely stay here again in the future. Large house that easily accommodated the 14 people we had. The pool made the trip for the kids. Slightly difficult getting in and out of our boat with the dock high above the waterline, and no spring line pilings, but we managed with a Bahama style anchor line. I'm just use to floating docks. Quiet is an understatement. Not even much boat traffic. Great place. Not disappointed. Only suggestion: Move the WalMart closer to the house.

Gene and his family were a great guests! Our 200’ dock can berth several boats and we have a spring piling with rope hooks. Our mild, tidal waters never fail to deliver amazing crabbing, fishing and water sports. We’re very fortunate to be on a point separating the bay with a 5-mile leeward river providing swimming, skiing fishing and recreational boating on some amazing, glassy water :)

80th Birthday Celebration
Just a wonderful property, with everything we could have asked for to help celebrate a wonderful occasion for our Mom. Both the actual accommodations, rooms, beds, baths, amenities, as well as the layout of the property were just great, whether we wanted to be together to celebrate, or spend quiet time reading a book, fishing, or just taking in the beautiful views! A great place
We had our family Christmas over Thanksgiving break at this home. We had a total of 12 people ranging in age from 11 to 75. The location is great. It was too cold to enjoy the water but the kayaks were available. There were enough bikes for those who wanted to use them. We enjoyed the nearby Blackwater NWR and the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Historical Park. The house itself is well maintained and we had no problems. The owner called us on Thanksgiving to see how we were doing and to wish us a happy holiday. All in all, a great place to stay.

Amazing waterfront oasis
I was at Jonathan’s place for a yoga /meditation retreat with some colleagues and it was absolutely amazing! The water views and private dock were beautiful! There is also a pond with a deck and some chairs and a little beach. Lots of unique spaces to hang out outdoors. The house itself is very large and open and well furnished. The kitchen is well stocked and open to the living room and dining room. The bedrooms are all a nice size and most have private bathrooms inside the rooms. Communication with Jonathan was wonderful. He always answered promptly and was available for questions. He even let us check in early and check out late to accommodate our retreat schedule . The neighborhood is also very quiet and private. We rode the bikes provided down the private road which is a couple of miles long. Lovely all around and I would highly recommend this house !!

July 2021 week with 3 generations
This house / property was excellent for our annual family get-together...especially after the last isolated Covid year. The house provided us with multiple dining areas (for eatting and games / puzzles) and also bedroom choices. The teens especially liked their third floor bedrooms / entertainment area. We all made use of the outside amenities of screened porch, side deck (family photos) , pool, fire pit and kayaks. There were some minor maintenance issues which the owner addressed. We found the following visitor areas to be close and interesting : the newer Harriet Tubman museum / video, Blackwater National Refuge, Chesapeake Ghost Walk and the St. Michael's Skipjack sail. (The last two we reserved for our private family experience).

Duck Hunting
We chose this place to stay during a duck hunting trip because it was centrally located for all the spots where we would be hunting. The house was a perfect fit. The location was just right. We were able to spread out in the house and the views were amazing. Everything was exactly as advertised. Would highly recommend and we will be going back next year.

Nice escape in the Chesapeake
We made a last minute decision to spend a few days away from the city (DC) and in seclusion somewhere along the Chesapeake and this house met all our criteria. Beautiful, spacious (we were 5 people), well kept, nicely furnished (interesting pieces and decor from France) with all the amenities you'd need. It seemed we were the only people around, other than the locals, which was nice. The instructions and suggestions by the owner were spot on and helpful. Definitely will look to returning for more than just a few days.

Great getaway
We really enjoyed this peaceful retreat. Great for family gatherings with lots of space and great outdoor options. Even though it was cold and windy we went canoeing and our kids played on the little beach. We would love to return in warmer weather.

Great rental!
We had a great long weekend at this property. The house was super clean, spacious, and comfortable. It offered plenty of varied options to sleep, sit, and relax. Kitchen was well equipped with modern appliances and stocked with utensils, cooking supplies, etc. Owner was very responsive and flexible and provided some very detailed tips for the local area, many of which we took advantage of. He even checked in on us via text message during the stay, which we've never experienced before with vacation rentals. Our kids loved the beach and found plenty of interesting shells. We tried our hand at crabbing and came up empty but the kids still enjoyed it. We took out the kayaks (which were in great condition) one afternoon for their first kayak trip and that was really neat. Area around the property is very quiet and peaceful. Sitting on the dock to read a book was really nice. The only negative point about our trip was the mosquitos. They were intense. While first unpacking the car (prior to applying bug spray), I got at least ten bites. No exaggeration. Bug spray definitely helped but if you missed a spot, they found it. Even with bug spray, they were constantly bouncing off you. As a result, we weren't able to spend time on the wooden platform by the pond. They thinned out considerably by the firepit and beach and disappeared completely on the dock. Also, just note that digital entertainment options are limited. Internet (as noted by the owner) is too slow for streaming. There is satellite TV but limited channels. Luckily for us, there were at least several children-focused channels. There's a handful of DVDs around and two DVD players in the house. That was all fine for us. We caught up on reading and other activities, but some families might want to bring media and maybe even additional players. That all said, it was a great place to spend a few days to relax and see the surrounding area and we'd definitely recommend it for other renters!

Nice family getaway
The house was large enough to comfortably accommodate the 9 of us who stayed. The pool was great and our favorite part. The small beach was nice for the kids to play on but the jellyfish were all over the bay so we didn’t venture into the water. We caught some crabs and a few fish from the dock. We had fun kayaking in the quiet waters. There was minimal boat traffic which was nice. Definitely bring the bug spray though if you will be out at dawn or dusk. The house is 20 minutes from any shopping or restaurants so we weren’t able to do take out like we wanted. Emily’s Produce is an awesome place to shop for food that is 10 minutes away though. The owner was great with communication and providing information about the house and area. He went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Overall, a nice place to get away especially while wanting to stay socially distanced.

Allison and her family were among the best of guests and we're glad they had a great week! It's 15 minutes to town and we're glad to say all the restaurants are open and serving inside dining and carry out. Some dry seasons bring sea nettles in the Atlantic and this is one. While they're awful at the ocean beaches they are thankfully much less present in our waters.

Vacation on the bay

Saddlebeach Property
Enjoyed this quiet, relaxing property along with the extras such as pool, canoes, and kayaks. The house is spacious and has plenty of conversation areas, as well as a beautiful view from many directions. It was a wonderful place for our family to vacation.

Beth and her family were just, wonderful! We designed the property to be self-contained, while making it easy for our guests to make informed decisions and take advantage of all the area has to offer.

Great Thanksgiving weekend house
Our extended family spent a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in this house and loved every minute. It was a perfect size and setup for 16 people, very well equipped kitchen and plenty of dishes and glassware for everyone. We were able to produce a slightly scaled down Thanksgiving dinner with no problem. The third floor was perfect for the two families with young children and the living area downstairs is nicely arranged with comfortable furniture to have multiple gatherings and conversations going on. The property is private but close enough to Cambridge to run in and pick up forgotten items. The biologists in the family loved the proximity to Blackwater - and all of us really enjoyed the whole lasagnas we ordered from Carmela’s Cucina. I highly recommend this house for a family reunion, tho a smaller group would not feel like they were rattling around since the third floor can be closed off.

From the moment I made my reservation, Jon was a consummate host. His welcome email felt honest, real and all of the information that he gave really helped. And the house...so beautiful! Driving up the driveway and seeing house look exactly like it’s pictured is fantastic. And the views! Each one was glorious. The main level is with its comfy furniture was roomy enough for my group to be together while moving around comfortably. The beds were the right kind of soft. And even though there was a slight issue with one of the windows, his caretakers came over immediately and took care of it. They were so personable and nice. Our group’s entire experience was relaxing and enjoyable. Thank you thank you thank you!

Perfect place for a multi-generational family reunion!!!
Lovely property - inside and out!!! Plenty of comfy beds, baths, kitchen supplies, room to all gather (20 of us) - everything we needed! Plus there were lots of extras for family fun - for all ages and interests - kayaks, canoes, dock crabbing with all the equipment (pus pots to cook them in), pool, bikes, games, toys, porch rocking chairs - really perfect! Couldn't have asked for more - our best rental experience!!!

Family weekend
This house gave up the Opportunity to celebrate my in laws 50th anniversary. We loved using the kayaks, the pool and the outside fire pit. We were there during jellyfish season so no swimming off the docks for us. We enjoyed sitting on the dock watching sun rise and drinks in the evening. The kitchen had everything you needed.

Wonderful house in a superb location.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Saddle Beach! The bedroom configurations and spacious living room were ideal for our three-generation family of 10, plus a couple of close family friends. Our first few days were a bit too cool and breezy for the pool, but we just opened windows and let that delightful breeze come inside with us. Grandkids, ages 1, 3, 3, and 5, had a great time on the sandy beach. Child supervision there was easy, actually relaxing, compared to how it can be at the ocean! Launching kayaks (provided) was wonderfully convenient there, as well. Time on the dock was a treat for all – quiet conversations, crabbing (mostly smalls), sunrises, star-gazing. We appreciated the quiet neighborhood for biking and running. Emily’s Produce made for a lovely family destination, with its playground and petting zoo. When we needed a thing or two, The Woolford Store was very convenient, and the Walmart in Cambridge was only about 20 minutes away. Jon was so easy to contact and totally responsive at all times. I reached out to him during the week with a couple of questions and concerns, including about a LR window with a broken crank mechanism, and about the grill needing maintenance. One suggestion I’d like to offer for the future – like when we return next summer! - is to provide lamps for relaxing area lighting in the LR, sunroom, and den – or at least dimmers on the ceiling lights. Thanks, Jon! We definitely recommend this property! Wonderful house in a superb location.

Great Home for Large Family
A well laid out home with a nice dock, fun little beach, and a great pool. The large screened porch was great for our family crab feast. Our kids enjoyed “frog patrol” every morning, scoping frogs & toads from the pool. Fun activities nearby.

Excellent Family Reunion Home and Location
We had a lovely 1-1/2 weeks at the Saddle Beach home. There were lots of things to do right at the home for all ages (3 - 60 years old) The small beach was the favorite of the toddler, the young adults enjoyed kayaking and biking in the quiet and secluded area. Of course the highlight was our morning trip to the end of the dock to check the crab traps. It is close enough to other locations and we enjoyed several day trips to Annapolis, Ocean City, Washington DC. Also visited the local wildlife preserve and the Harriet Tubman Museum and Park, and golfed a couple times in Easton. There is a seafood market close by that we frequented as well as a farmer's produce and bakery market. Owner was very responsive to questions both prior to and during our stay. I can definitely recommend this home and location.

This guest and her party were lovely! And the review shows why we love our property and the area so much. From 3 to 60 and older.... something for everyone especially teenagers. Pool, dock, crabbing, fishing, swimming biking and boating... And our beach is so calm it's great even for toddlers. We always take day trips to spots from a few minutes to an hour or so away as there's so much to do. Our job? To help you plan whatever it is you need to have a wonderful stay. And again, a big thanks to this exceptional guest

Amazing house, perfect for our needs!
What an amazing house - the location is stunning, the house is huge, yet still quaint and comfortable. Our Men's Group held our yearly retreat here, and it was perfect for the occasion. More than enough beds, so much space to spread out and have one-on-one or small groups for games; and having kayaks/canoes and the pier available for fishing was icing on the cake. Jon was really great to work with - super-accommodating and responsive. Highly recommend this rental, and we're looking forward to the opportunity to visit again.

Beautiful House, Incredible Loaction
This house is incredible. We're four families with kids, and we had a blast. The kids enjoyed exploring the marsh, beach, and woods on the property. It was so cold and windy one day that we just stayed indoors, doing puzzles, playing board games, sitting by the fire. The kids played hide and seek and sardines inside the house, and didn't bother the adults - the house is that big. The views are incredible from sunrise to sunset. The rooms were all spacious and comfortable, and worked perfectly for our combination of couples, 10 yo boys, 11/12 yo girls, and 2 yo baby. The master bathroom was a star attraction. We joked that any kids would need to pass a swim test before using the jacuzzi tub. I think 4 people used it. Another 2-3 used the shower/steam room. So nice. The kitchen has enough pots, pans, dishes, mugs, etc, to easily prepare meals for over 2 dozen people - plenty of prep space, too. Large table + stools at the counter allowed almost everyone to sit at the same time. AND large coffee tables in the other rooms meant that drawing, games, and puzzles all had their own spaces. The property is very close to the blackwater national wildlife refuge, where the group went out for a hike, and the Harriet Tubman National Park Visitor's center. Bikes and helmets were provided and used, as were kayaks, and crab pots (though these last, unsuccessfully). We had a problem with a couple of wasps the night we arrived, and the caretakers came the next day to figure out how they might have gotten in, and solved the problem. We also had questions about how the heating worked (three separate zones!). The owner was very responsive to all our questions.

Thank you(!) it brings so much joy to hear stories of fun, exploration and family time. Rare, weather days? We designed the house with lots of rooms separated by 6' glass doors that give the house a wide open feel when open, then allow for privacy and separation if desired. But we're all about the activities... boating, crabbing, swimming, fishing and exploring. And off-property the possibilities are virtually endless. Thanks to this wonderful family for being our guests.

Beautiful home in a stunning setting!
Our group of three families had a wonderful weekend stay at this lovely home. The home is spacious, bright, clean, and beautifully furnished. The water views are gorgeous- especially at sunrise and sunset. The owners are very helpful and responsive to questions about the house and the surrounding area. We hope to return soon!

This guest was lovely! We book full in the summer, yet have so many families and couples stay throughout the year. The town and surrounding areas have so much to offer from recreation to dining the sightseeing, but the property makes the trip… We’re glad to have helped make a special weekend for these wonderful folks and look forward to having them back!.
