What a wonderful week we had in our gite. Views galore, incredible antiques and atmosphere, green plants and AC. Our beds
were very comfortable. We had everything we needed. Also location was great, with resturants galore, castle view and shopping. We 5 were extremely happy. Thanks for the the wonderful stay. LaDawn

Wonderful location in historical building
Very close to lovely old Saumur town center, grocery shopping and sites. Comfortable beds. We liked the authentic tapestries, exposed wood beams and other touches that remind you of the history that surrounds you in this place. Kitchen space and appliances including clothes washer worked well for us. The host Gilles was “très agréable”! For travelers accustomed to easy conveniences there were some adjustments. Full length mirrors would have been helpful as well as a place to be able to sit and use a hair dryer with nearby electrical outlet. Air conditioning was present and worked well in many areas but not as well in a few others. Parking was a challenge at times although some of our stay was over a major holiday weekend. However, for us all of these challenges were offset by things like the beautiful views, the ambiance, the location and the general comfort and space of this place. We would definitely book again and say thank you Gilles so much for your kindness and patience!

Superb Saumur Property
We stayed here for 4 nights after 4 days cycling along the Loire river. The apartment, over 2 floors, was simply stunning. Amazing views of the Chateau and also of the river and full of interesting stuff. Myself, my 2 brothers and partners had a really relaxing time with the apartment as a fabulous base. I cannot recommend this place enough. The Host, Giles & his wife werereally lovely and on had if needed.

An unforgettable stay
This is the most amazing apartment right in the historic centre of Saumur. The views from the property are breath-taking: the magnificent Castle, the imposing St.Peter's Church, Loire River the spires of Saumur, the Bridge - all these you can see through the windows!.
The flat itself is enormous - it occupies the entire attic space of a 19th c. house, parts of which date from 17th century. The main eating/sitting area under the eaves is vast and spacious, hung with ancient tapestries. Some furniture dates from 17th century!
This apartment will appeal to artistic, creative and historically-minded types. It's full of antique furniture and interesting historic objects. It has unprecedented views over the historic centre. But don't expect sterileness and smooth-rolling mechanisms of the Ikea furniture, for there is none! :-) Instead, you will find the ancient sculptures of Saints and Madonnas in the bedrooms, bronze horses (the homage to Saumur's equestrian heritage), antique oak chests, wooden masks, collection of bronze keys and other curiosities, and lots of books on Saumur history. It's an absolutely fascinating place to stay. But it IS a historic apartment, with creaking floors and old-fashioned key-locks, - so if you are into modern minimalism and card-reading locks - the apartment is not for you! :-))
For us (an artist and an architect), it was absolute delight and perfection! :-)
Many thanks to the Owner, Gilles, who responded to every query and request instantly and was very helpful with recommendations for the local restaurants. Try Bistrot de la Place and Le Pot de Lapin!
The location of the flat is so great, that you can be in the centre of operation in about 2-3 minutes.
Re: Covid 19. I am on the Shielded List for medical reasons and had to be extremely careful. I must say, I was impressed that ALL waiters wear masks at all times - inside and outside; and (as per today - August 2020) you must wear a mask inside of any public place like a shop, a restaurant or a historic Chateau. But if you are sitting outside, it's up to you. Covid19 is an air-born disease, so the biggest danger is inside of the crowded poorly-ventilated spaces. If you are sitting at a table outside, the risk is very, very small. There are hand sanitisers everywhere and generally speaking, I think that awareness about Coronavirus is very high. So I felt safe there.
On the whole, it was one of the best holidays we have ever had. We'll definitely come again!

Ideally situated near Saumur chateau
A very comfortable apartment with plenty of space for the five of us in our party. The views of the nearby chateau are quite amazing. The beds were extremely comfortable and we all slept very well. The showers were excellent as was the heating - our visit being in December, the temperature outside rather cold but we were all kept very cosy.

Excelente flat in the best location with the best confort and beauty
This flat was a great surprise for all of us! It is the best place to stay and enjoy Saumur. You feel there as part of the ambience of this city. The view is inmejorable! You could see the Loire just in front of our bed, and also the castel is visible through other windows. It is located at walking distance to the main places.
The flat has all the confort, with many rooms and a toillet for each one. There are many social spaciouses areas to share and all the apartament is beautifully decorated with antiques.
The hoster send us a Lady who explained every thing about and chek in was easy as well as the check out. Gilles was in contact all time asking for our confort.
The kitchen is well equiped even with dish wacher, since the flat capacity is for 8 to 11, with all the confort for each one.
If We come again, we would definetly stay there again.

Great stay in an old worldatmosphere
Gilles, Was a gracious host. He was restoring another building behind this one and was always ready to answer any questions we had.The apartment is very big with 5 bedrooms that can sleep up to11 people. It has vewiews of the Loire river and the Chateau and is close to the center of Saumur. Lots of things to do in Saumur and the Loire valley.
A lot of stairs but there is an elevator. We spent 9 days and had a good time !

Perfect location
Our visit had a bit of a rocky start as the housekeeper was not ready for us. After answering the door buzzer, she said she’d be down tout de suite, but left us waiting on the street for at least ten minutes, if not longer. However, after that less than smooth beginnng the rest of our visit was very nice.
The duplex is huge and three of us girlfriends were quite comfortable. It is an excellent location for exploring the Loire Valley. A fine boulangerie is a few doors down and lots of restaurants are close by. The view from the lounge is indeed of the castle and is lovely at night.
This is not an apartment to which I would bring children. Lots of hard, uneven surfaces and beams to knock one’s head on. It would also be difficult to keep curious hands away from the numerous antiques.
Parking can be a challenge but the restrictions on the paid lot right outside can be worked around with one’s day trips and outings.
I can definitely recommend this for your next visit to the region.
