The staff at Leeds were uniformly excellent, from reception to restaurant to castle. The first thing that struck us about the room was the smell. It was of old vaccuum bags, or maybe wet dogs. This eased off when we figured out how to turn up the heating. The carpet was old, stained, thin and not properly cleaned (we think they had the door open and forgot to clean behind it). The tea in the room was undrinkable, especially with the milk substitute. (Hint: bring your own tea/coffee and a flask of milk!) But the biscuits were OK. Bathroom was huge, with good hot water, towels and even flannels. When we turned the heating down at lights-out the pipework make a disturbing dripping noise. Breakfast was in the main restaurant which was very close to the room. There was a "continental" buffet and a small cooked-to-order menu. We just had cereal and fruit so cannot comment on the hot food. The tea and coffee were both dreadful. There were no tea options, such as English breakfast or Darjeeling; so we had no idea what was served. The cafetiere contained something which tasted more like instant coffee, although on inspection there were a few grounds - perhaps it was a hybrid concoction? Perhaps the gripe which could most easily be addressed was the unusually early checkout time of 10am. We stayed at Lloyd overlooking the gardens, which was incredibly comfortable and spotlessly clean. The quality of the food was exceptional - be it breakfast, dining in the restaurant or just snacks in the cafes - fresh, presented well and delectable. Having access to the beautifully maintained castle grounds around the clock was a real bonus. What more could I say? Our stay left us spellbound and we will definitely return. The whole stay was a 5-star experience! We were amazed how beautiful the gardens are and we made sure we walked round them and visited the castle before we left. We stayed in the Stable Courtyard and the room was excellent with all the facilities expected of a 5\* hotel. Exceptionally clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was great too. Lovely to have the castle grounds to wander around after hours. We really enjoyed our stay in a deluxe double room overlooking the gardens. So much to see and do in the castle and castle grounds and lovely walks with a great view of the castle. We ate in the Castle View Restaurant in the evening and enjoyed our meal. Breakfast was also good. I dont recommend this hotel for many reasons and unhappy experience, I never dislike a hotel like this one , I lived many hotels around the world 1\. I don't really like the staff there completely, they are arrogant, create bad experince to my trip , both the reception staff and especially the supervisor siting inside the room, 2\. No AC in hot summer for all the rooms as the staff mentioned, i re-requested a fan more, NEVER come, how deluxe it is, when you are sweating inside my small room 3\. I choose and pay a “more” expensive and deluxe room when i make my booking, however the room is indeed so tiny 4\. The staff is not helpful even i keep asking, I asked about the activities and she give me a map and tell me where i am and my room is. I missed some good activiy 5\. Request me to pay for an extra bed, which I dont want to! I choose to believe a more expensive and bigger one room can have three people, i book this online with three “heads” on the website to make sure the room space sufficient, why the room is so small, I choose a more deluxe version with three heads on website, , want to spend my happy vacation with my love and one small kids, they asked why I didnt notice them about my “two” kids, and ask me to pay extra immediately in fact I have one kid only, I dont really like to pay extra, I wish they could refund me if they read it. It was clean and tidy. It was very warm, as no airflow. It was a good job it wasn’t too hot. The bed was a double. Not overly comfortable and the pillows were quite hard. The surrounding area was lovely. We could have done without the bright lights outside th3 window. I wish we had known that we had access to the whole of Leeds castle for the day of arrival and departure. We won’t go back, but I would recommend it to others. The castle View restaurant was lovely.
