Never stay here. Only one floor has AC. Out of 10 day stay, only 4 dishes out of all meals [all inclusive] were tasty. I'm used to GOOD Portuguese food! This wasn't! Outdated building. Shabby amenities [ripped bathroom towels]. Canceled scheduled activity after ppl showed up for swim fitness class. Open balcony gym located over dining room. So while eating, you can hear the person running on the treadmill because you are in thr same room.

I didn’t like that was no air conditioner and that was unacceptable, dinnind area everybody was swetting and on the walking area, and I had to change room upon arrival because I was assuming every room had air conditioner but I paid xtra for that. Also entertainment was poor beeing the the hotel is so far from the city they should have better atractions

Lovely location near the sea.Hotel area and our room was very clean and towels etc changed daily.Food and drink excellent with plenty to choose from.Also liked the free shuttle bus to Funchal. Massage offered and spa facilities great.Visited also sauna and jacuzzi.

All suites were true oceanfront and comfortable. Service was excellent and the staff friendly and conversant in many languages. Food was excellent and plentiful. Complimentary brookfieldox lunches were even provided upon notice for day trips. Entertainment was varied and lively. Special thanks to Mariana and Helen in guest relations. Also bartenders Hugo and Ivan,and server Hernani.

Very nice ocean view property very friendly staff however because of size of the property they could use a larger restaurant or a second one . besides that beautiful property and location very close to Funchal Downtown and the beautiful Marine.

Not much really Too far to go into Funchal so Taxis became very expensive All that was available was the pool but as the weather was bad we couldn't use it So nothing else we could do

Location is great. Staff friendly and sorted out our requests very quickly. The only thing we didn’t like in our room was lack of air con. Food is ok but nothing special. View from the balcony amazing Our flight was in the evening and we used the option with late check out. Massive plus for this hotel. We also liked the fact that hotel was asking the guests to refill the bottle with water in the canteen instead of giving a new plastic bottle every day

Ideally located hotel
We chose this hotel because we wanted an "All Inclusive" and this certainly was! Although a little dated in décor we found it to be spotlessly clean. The food was plentiful with a good selection of hot and cold dishes. Red and white wine, sangria, beer, soft drinks including tea and coffee readily available. Our room even had a small kitchenette with kettle, fridge, sink, cutlery, cups saucers and glasses if you wanted to bring your own drinks to your room. All rooms have a seaview and a pleasant longish walk along the footpath (some parts were quite hilly) take you to Funchal one way and the delightful fishing village the other.

Really great hotel.
We loved our stay at this hotel. We had an annexe room which suited us as the pool and sunbeds were quieter. There was a little bar 3-11pm where the talented barman, Luis, served us great cocktails. Our room was large and clean with a big balcony overlooking the sea. The restaurant in the main hotel was at times very busy but as the tables were not allocated or timed we managed to fit in after the rush. The staff were all polite, friendly and efficient. The wine was served in large carafes and there was bottled water readily available. The food was very good, great choice, well cooked, plenty of it and dishes were replaced quickly as they finished. The entertainment was okay - good singers and folkdance show. The shuttle bus to town was useful. We would go in to town on it but not join the scramble to return on it. We had local bus passes so would get the no.2 bus back and walk through the tunnel to Praia Formosa beach. Although a lot of people did swim in the sea the beach is large pebbles and the under tow in the water not for the feint hearted.

Nice hotel, great customer service. Food very nice but a bit samey. All inclusive bar a bit limited - no bourbon for example, just basic spirits. Nice pool. Decent WiFi in room, not just in communal areas.

Great location
Ideal hotel location, ocean frontage with pretty gardens. Free shuttle bus to Funchal. Staff in all departments helpful and friendly. Food of good quality, fresh and well presented in main restaurant. Italian restaurant on garden level (pre book) also excellent food but feels it needs more subdued lighting, perhaps candles on tables for a more cozy effect. The only down side is the outside pool is unheated and makes swimming out of season more of a trial, than a enjoyment, perhaps they could heat it with solar panels and make it an all year perfect swim. They have certainly listened to past clients as WiFi is all over the hotel and bedrooms and not just the lobby and bar area. Again I fully recommend this hotel as a perfect base for touring the beautiful island of Madeira.

Very friendly restaurant staff.
Chef would make us vegetarian dishes. Very helpful staff. Shuttle bus was always late by an hour or so . Too hot so air conditioning would help at least in some parts of the hotel . Was good to hear the sea from the bedroom.

Booked the hotel 7months in advance and on arrival found it was overbooked, a couple who booked only 3 weeks ago had no problem as their room was ok !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Relaxing time.
Perfect place to relax and wind down with the sound of the waves. The hotel feels a little cramped but after a day or so it feels more like "cosy". There was no animation team which for some would be great but wouldn't suit everyone.

Be prepared to be amazed !!!!
Having visited this "All Inclusive" hotel several times I feel qualified to report that it displays amazing qualities. The hotel, although on the beech would not attract serious sun worshipers but all other aspects of this "Pestana" hotel are brilliant...The main feature would have to be the staff. They are totally dedicated to making your stay a wonderful experience. The reception staff, dining room staff and bar staff all worked so hard to make our holiday an experience that will definitely be repeated. The free "Shuttle bus" means that Funchal centre is only a short ride away and if you don't mind some easy walking if you go either way from the hotel you can enjoy the promenade to "Camara de Lobos" or Funchal. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed !!!!

The staff at Petana Ocean Bay were the best !
We were greeted by very competent and friendly staff in all areas of the hotel ,which helped to make our holiday an enjoyable one .Having never been to Madeira before we were most impressed by all aspects of our week there . We would recommend it to others , probably to older persons , although it does help to be fairly fit as it is a very hilly island .

Comfortable stay at a friendly hotel
Room extremely clean and comfortable with access to beach view and useful kitchenette. Prompt service from reception staff. Exceptionally good attention from room cleaning staff. Food plentiful and usually good. Accessibility to places nearby eg. shops and local buses is difficult because of steep terrain from the hotel's beachlevel to the main road. Shuttle bus into Funchal was useful but involved a lot of waiting around at both ends of the route and sometimes not enough seats available.

Great hotel and fabulous staff
We had an absolutely great time , the rooms were very clean , well maintained , the hotel staff were very polite spoke excellent English and extremely helpful. The food was to a good standard with plenty of variety , choice of meats and wide variety of fruit. Breakfast was well cooked again lots of variety and very well prepared. We had a packing most days to take advantage of the walking , staff helped sort out bus routes and the shuttle bus was great . Evening meals were well prepared and again several various options, only gripe the meat on one occasion could have been warmer . The room we had 411 had great views right on the beach , brilliant setting. Entertainment was varied , the traditional Madeira display and birds of Prey were particularly very good

Great vacation for a reasonable price!
Location, location, location…Five stars wouldn’t be enough. You simply cannot get any better than this. Right on the beautiful beach, not far from Funchal (they have a free shuttle to the city center every hour or so), yet quite isolated and quiet. Every room has a magnificent view of the open ocean. You get incredible views every night of the fantastic sunsets, when sun literally is falling down into the sea right in front of your eyes. Awesome!… All along the beach there is a nice wooden boardwalk, which you can take to walk up the hill in one direction (there is a good supermarket up the hill), and in another direction as well. Good for walking and jogging. Another great advantage of the location: don’t take taxi to the hotel. Instead, take the AIRBUS from the airport. It is very easy to find, the airport is not that big. There is a timetable available, they go every hour or so and cost just 5 euros. So, for the couple you’d pay 10 euros, instead of 40-50 euros for the taxi. Rooms.Comfortable, with a very large balcony. The sea temp was very comfortable, not too warm, about 20C. Water in swimming pool was even cooler, so it was quite refreshing a swim. These temps might not be very comfortable to those who prefer swimming in really warm water. Food. It is an all-inclusive hotel, and the food was good. I wouldn’t mark it ‘excellent’, but the food definitely was good. Variety of meat and fish, lots of salads, good desserts. Soups were bland(to my taste).

Beautiful Environment
I had never stayed in an all inclusive stay hotel before. Imagine my surprise at check in that lunch and afternoon snacks were also included.Also, drinks included as well. If you did not want to go out, there was no need Fantastic choice of food. Previously on holiday me and the family would argue for ages about which restaurant to go to - fish, pizza etc. However, here he choice was amazing - so no arguments! Staff very helpful. Clean environment. As a triathlete, I found the pool to be a reasonable swim - about 30 meters long so you could get a reasonable swim.Sauna and gym room thrown in. A great place to be. Free regular bus into town

Great destination and nice hotel
Nice hotel, v friendly staff and great food even for non-meat eaters. No a/c but didn't need it, even in August. All the staff very helpful.

Madeira May Vacation
We were very pleased with our stay at the Pestana Bay ApartHotel. The room was clean and neat. The food was very good. Although the hotel is not centrally located, you can easily get to Funchal's downtown city center via the free courtesy bus that runs every half hour in the am and every hour in the pm. The staff members were excellent, especially at the front desk and the dining hall.

A very nice location
While at the hotel I seemed to be, as well as the Island, one of the youngest holiday maker at the age of 39. It's a shame that the younger gen don't seem to come to the island as it's a really nice place (Maybe it's for the best then)

every thing about this holiday was good exellant food nice room with good facilaties nice staff nothing was to much trouble would definately stay there again.shuttle bus ran from 9 in morning till 7.30pm into town entertainment was pretty good.

Very good value. Excellent location .
The hotel has an excellent location which is virtually on the beach. Very good value hotel with friendly staff. Good choice of food but could be hotter. I would advise to choose beef when on offer, it is outstanding! The hotel is in a quiet location but has free bus transport in and out of Funchal. I would rate this hotel as an excellent value holiday
