The staff were very friendly. This hotel is just beside Lucca's train station and was convient if arriving by train. It is only a short walk to one of the city gates.

Staff was outstanding. So friendly and helpful. We arrived early so they kept our bags while we headed to Pisa. The room was large with comfortable beds and crisp linens. The decor is definitely “unique”. We had a chuckle and thought it was fun. They have lots of little nooks with books, baskets of cookies and Knick knacks. Very kid friendly with a few toys in our room. The breakfast was delicious with a large choice of pastries, meats, cheeses, yogurt, juices, coffee and cappuccino, cereals, toast, fruit and much more. Steps from the station and the gate into town. Close to good restaurant(s). We loved the staff and our stay.

Very clean, quaint hotel, warmly greeted at the front desk, large room with A/C, kettle, tv, breakfast. Outside the wall, just a few feet from the train station (we had booked an early train so this was convenient). Would definitely recommend.

This property is right outside the wall to the city and had free parking which is always a plus. The hotel is older but has a lot of charm. The breakfast was excellent. We only stayed one night but the town was a favorite. Loved walking the wall in the early morning. We listened to music in several areas of the city at night one of which was at the amphitheater which was where we also ate dinner. Great stay and the city was a wonderful surprise.

For me, one to avoid.
Apart from a grumpy and unhelpful welcome, things got better in this markedly old-fashioned hotel, but not enough to stop me checking out one day early. Antiquated but efficient a/c system; small but clean en-suite and a quiet room were the plus points. Dull rather gloomy decor and a complicated system of light switches were negative issues. It seemed impossible to have an independent bedside light. There was a more than adequate breakfast with an interesting range of crockery. Location was extremely convenient for rail travellers but was a five-minute walk to the city entrance gate.

The location was excellent. Rooms were clean, but quite outdated. Breakfast was not great. The first morning our milk was spoiled. We did not have enough confidence to try it again after that. The man at the front desk was friendly and helpful.

Hotel Rex is a very friendly hotel. The staff are very welcoming and pleasant. My favourite stay in Italy. The location is so perfect for travel and sightseeing. Love it here!

The hotel staff were all kind and helpful. The location was very convenient, right across from the train station, the entrance to Lucca Walled city and across from a great bike rental company. The bed and pillow were uncomfortable and it was noisy outside at night. Appreciated the homemade cappuccinos in the am. The breakfast though was subpar-hardboiled eggs were not cooked and most of the food was too sweet.

Great location
The hotel has very nice reception staff, so helpful. Good breakfast, spacious rooms, great location (right near the train station AND the entrance to the old town). My only complaint is airconditioning. I get the hours regulation, that's fine. But you can't turn it off in the middle of the night! Waking up because the room has no oxygen isn't a great experience. Keeping the windows open at night isn't really possible because of the circular road.

Convenient location, helpful & kind staff, I recommend Hotel Rex. It's right next to the station but we were amazed how quiet our room was, which was very nice. Everything was very clean and the breakfast was large and a nice perk. It's outside of the wall but one block from the gate, and because it's outside, it's very quiet. I think it's the perfect location to be, honestly.

The staff were so lovely and welcoming. Location is perfect for exploring Lucca it’s right outside the city walls and next to the train station. Really great place to stay with lots of homely touches that made it so special.

Hotel next to the station, and with private and public parking below. A little dated hotel, but with all the services: fridge, amenities, kettle, biscuits. Very tall and cool rooms, perfect for summer, and very well soundproofed. Very varied breakfast, and with all the anticovid measures. Very nice and helpful staff. They even gave us a little gift at check-out. Below, an excellent ice cream shop. A stone's throw from the historic center. Great

Perfect to explore Lucca
