Okay, giving this a 4+ star review, but don't forget this is only a 2+ hotel. Stayed in 2 queens with family of 4. First impression of the lobby was not great, but the room was really nice, big, updated, and clean. Lots of cool restaurants within walking distance, and since they cater to college crowd many not too expensive either. (Definitely try 800 degrees pizzeria if you're in the mood for pizza!) Liked the location off the beaten LA path, halfway between Hollywood and Santa Monica - about 15 minutes to each when traffic was light.
The parking spaces were ridiculously small - after parking minivan most times I had to crawl out the back hatch because I could not get doors open. Other down side was laundry room, which consisted of 1 washer and dryer each, and had to walk out of the hotel around to the parking area to use it. But they did work, so got wash done.
So again, don't expect a 4 star hotel. But DO expect a very nice room at a reasonable price in a good location. If I was going to LA again I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Very nice room. Impeccably clean. We will definitely stay again. It can be slightly noisy but just make sure your room does not abut the main road. There is no central air conditioning so if you are in hat weather the wall unit might bother some people. I am a finickly traveler and I would stay again. There is a Trader Joe's next door where you can get food and a microwave in the room. A nice French pattiserie is less than 100 meters away and a nice coffee shop. When we are in Santa Monica and not going to be at our room except to sleep I can't imagine a better place.
The staff was AWESOME! The hotel was very clean and in great condition, especially for Venice Beach.
Three of us stayed in a one bedroom. It was a little small, with a roll-away bed, but manageable. The tiny kitchen was perfect for making a simple breakfast, a sandwich for the beach or prepping an easy BBQ to cook on the small rooftop lounge. The rooftop had a lovely view during the day. It was the perfect spot to eat breakfast (the one you made in your room ;).
I totally recommend renting a bike overnight. Jay's Bike Rental gave a small discount when a Venice Breeze room key was shown. It's only $25 form 8am - noon the next day. It was so much fun bebopping around Venice, Santa Monica and Marina del Rey. There are restaurants fairly close, but the better ones are more inland, so it was nice to have a bike at night to explore (not to mention that driving & parking was such a pain). The hotel had a place to store bikes at night, so there was no worry that they would be stolen or vandalized.
Santa Monica and Marina del Rey have beautiful beaches. Venice was nice too, just a bit more populated. It was nice to walk out the hotel and straight to the ocean. The hotel had a nice collection of collected beach gear to use such as umbrellas, boogie boards, beach toys, sunscreen, etc. I believe they are leftover from past guests, so don't be surprised if you can't find pieces and parts.
You can't go wrong staying at Venice Breeze, especially if it's just for two.
