"Only go for the experience"
If part of your stay is for the history then do it. If not you will probably be disappointed in an average, tired hotel. We were in the former category and really enjoyed the atmosphere of the ship. The audio tour (1-4 hours) was fantastic and well put together. Our biggest disappointment was the dining. We had visions of having a "special" experience but were informed that the classier restaurant (The Winston Churchill) was closed on Mondays. The alternative was a restaurant that resembled a canteen, although the staff were good. Overall if you are happy to compromise quality for maritime history, then do it

Pocket Guide: Long Beach, Los Angeles Historic Hotels

Long Beach, with its immense port, is a hub for commerce and leisure on the Pacific. Freighter ships haul imported goods, pleasure cruises depart for Catalina Island, and the Queen Mary, the storied trans-Atlantic liner, is moored in the city’s bay. The Aquarium of the Pacific is nearby. At night, downtown’s Pine Avenue strip and Belmont Shore’s Second Street are prime entertainment spots.
