Weekend getaway with the wife, usually only do day trips to London but this time decided to book a highly rated hotel to give us more time to explore London.
Check in was easy enough, had to provide ID and pay a £50 deposit so they would have card on file in case of damages and to put room service on, told if not used it would be refunded in 6 days.
Access card didn't work in lift so had to go back to get it activated.
Got to room, sat on bed and massive dust cloud lifted, foul smell in room which seemed to come from bathroom and smelt like bad drains. Quite possible room hadn't been used in a while hence build up of dust and standing water causing foul smell.
Called reception 3 times no answer, called manager who said it would be sorted asap, 20 mins later no communication so walked from our 5th floor room to reception, very apologetic and offered to reclean the room while we had dinner in the restaurant.
Room was much better on return.
A good night's sleep and an extremely rare lie in was ruined by cleaners entering the room at 09:30 whilst we were still asleep! Checkout was for 11am so this was very surprising. We decided to get up and check out earlier. Receptionist didn't seem to understand when we mentioned it but offered to let us leave bags at hotel so we didn't have to carry them around.
From the outside looks a very posh hotel, restaurant food was ok but very limited choice.
For the price we paid I wouldn't stay again.
