Located right on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, Portugal’s Lisboa Region is an enchanting destination featuring well-preserved medieval neighborhoods, sandy beaches and an incredible wine region. Visit the capital city, Lisbon, to wander down cobblestoned streets. For something more low-key, unwind under a colorful beach umbrella and trek through undulating vineyard hills where picturesque windmills dot the landscape.
The capital of Portugal, Lisbon, is also the country’s largest city. It’s a major hub for business, finance and tourism. For a history fix, head to the Moorish-influenced district of Alfama. Go shopping or enjoy the capital’s nightlife in lively Bairro Alto near central Lisbon. Right in the heart of the city center is Baixa, a bustling area with wide roads and plenty of al fresco dining terraces.
Lisbon is the only European capital with Atlantic beaches, and you can take advantage of them by bodyboarding or surfing right off the coast. Of course, you’re also free to simply stroll along the shoreline and marvel at the jagged rocks. Dig your toes into the sand at Praia de Carcavelos, one of the most popular beaches in the summer months. Stick around to watch the sunset as you dine on the terrace of a restaurant overlooking the ocean.
Although it is a short drive from the coastline, Lisboa’s wine region seems a world away. Take a tour of the rolling hills, which are carpeted in vines. Look for orchards and olive groves, which also contribute to the area’s agricultural production.
Fly into Lisbon’s international airport from destinations across Europe, Africa and North and South America. From there, take a bus or regional train to destinations on the outskirts of the Lisboa Region. Renting a car is possible, but not necessary unless you are planning on traveling far off the beaten path.
Within Lisbon, take the subway for the most efficient way of visiting the various neighborhoods. For hilltop destinations, consider using the tram and historic funiculars.
Although Lisbon hogs the limelight, there is more to the Lisboa Region than just the capital. Be sure to make time for the golden beaches and interior vineyards.

Staff excellent. Rooms very nice (we received an upgrade too). A little disappointing that you had to pay for the sauna/steam room which was not hot enough which I said repeatedly and was kindly reimbursed. Breakfast was fantastic. Concierge very helpful with restaurant recommendations. Overall a ...

Quick and efficient. The facilities and the rooms are clean. On the downside too many kids therefore too noisy and at times chaotic in the common areas such as the dinning room and lobby.

Great location in Lisbon for tourism. Centrally located in the middle of everything. Room was a tad cramped, as in Europe! But otherwise a quality hotel.
