"My room had baby cockroaches crawling around in the table I was working at under the TV. I loved the room because it was spacious and clean, other than those baby cockroaches. But the A/C was a little loud. I think it was on auto and so it would turn off and on and every time it would turn back on it kind of made a loud noise which woke me up a few times."

"The rooms are okay, it's an old building, no elevator, no cleaning between days. The area was the real problem, so many homeless, you won't feel comfortable going out after dark."

"This home is exceptionally well cared for and thoughtfully stocked with everything you need for a beach vacation. Even the hand soaps smelled amazing! The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash provided were high quality and much better than the cheap toiletries you usually find in hotels. The location was also excellent, very convenient to many of the best spots around Hilo.The only downside was the noise during rain. Raindrops hitting the metal roof/storage area outside created a loud clanging sound, almost like drums. Since the master bedroom is located right next to it, the noise was very noticeable at night and made it difficult to sleep when it rained."

"Common areas were attractive. Our room was small and basically windowless. Staff was nice. Bathroom was so small you had to zigzag to reach the sink. I think a large person would struggle to navigate it. Bed comfy but pillows really small. Great amenities - convenient store, laundry, drinks, games, white noise machine, recreational gear to borrow. Location was nice, right across from the bay. I think the room in the relaxation wing was just a bummer. And I suspect the pool wing is bad too because of noise and the ocean wing looks down on a parking lot as far as I could tell. Try to get a room in the pond wing - I think you’ll have a balcony there or at least a window. Those rooms are probably nice. The place has a bit of a hostel feel. Their heart is really in the right place with their philosophy and their commitment to sharing their profits with good causes. But I partly picked them because they were listed somewhere as one of top ten hotels in the state and I’m sort of surprised they made the list considering the room we stayed in. Also they say you can tell them if you think it was poor value and pay what you think your room is worth but I would absolutely not feel comfortable doing that."

"Parking was great! Staff was through the roof kind and accommodating. Little older place but very clean room."

"Spacious accommodations and gracious host. We arrived earlier than anticipated and host allowed us to enter early. The place was tidy, and we were provided with welcome coffee and cookies. A/C was great in the bedrooms but none dedicated to Living/Dining area which was a bit warmer. It suited our needs nicely. Two drawbacks were things outside of host control - noisy birds/frogs/wildlife and the neighborhood was a bit sketch (but we did not feel unsafe). Highly recommend."

"Live like a local. It was cool to be in a local neighborhood with close proximity to downtown. The place was spotless and well appointed. Very clever whale theme throughout. Very prompt response of management when any issue surfaced. Loved the sound of the songbirds, the plumeria tree streetside, even the neighbors cheering games nearby. Only downside was the streetlight shining in the front bedroom window at night. Overall this was a charming spot. Even the front porch is nice with the cafe table and chairs. There were snorkeling equipment and beach towels available and a few beach chairs. We enjoyed many local eateries and the Farmers Market along with the nearby Hawaiian Tropical Botanical Gardens. "

"The Queen’s Loft was a quaint little place that offered way more than we expected. Conveniently located in downtown Hilo close proximity to shops, restaurants, laundromat and grocery store. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a convenient place to crash while visiting the island hotspots."
