What you pay is what you get. The location is excellent - right on the beach and walking distance into town, but the room, service and food at the property is basic.

My wife & I have stayed here before & overall the staff are excellent & the food very good the rooms are nice & clean although could do with updating Furniture & installing soundproofing as all conversations between other guests & activities can be heard very clearly although we are prudes it can be embarrassing at times ,but that aside we both enjoyed our stay again & will carry on using the Hermes for the foreseeable future

The hotel of your dreams! The most spectacular food I have ever had in a 4 stars hotel. The chef must come from a 5 stars one, it's just unbelievable! Beautiful view of the sea from our room. The rest is a 4 stars hotel. Excellent!

This hotel is a reasonable choice for its price
First of all, the food at the main restaurant. Despite having bought the all inclusive option, we had to eat all lunches and dinners outside, because the ones at the hotel were barely edible. Although the selection was ok (1-2 meats, 1 fish, pasta), everything was equally over-salted and fatty (fried in tons of fat or with a sauce). So if you want a healthy option, there is no choice (even the salads are shaky), and no diet/kid option either. The breakfast was ok (still no nuts and only melon and oranges for fruit). Second, the cleaning. Sometimes our towels were hanging unchanged for three days. The most disappointing was the change of beach towels, which are supposed to be changed by the cleaning lady. But that's exactly the time when you are using them on the beach! We had to ask explicitely for the change every other evening at the reception. And this can't be done every day as they don't have enough. Finally, the parking. The hotel's "free parking" is just the regular city parking which is all filled up. Beware that Agios Nikolaos itself is not very well suited for kids.

.Very Convenient Location
We reserved this hotel because it is exceptionally convenient to city center and it is on the beach. It was clean and accommodating. We were able to walk to all key destinations which was particularly convenient for our purposes. The price was good and provided two meals per day. The sea view is good. The sea water pool is an excellent size.

Nice hotel close to town and beaches.
Booked this hotel mainly for it's location and was not disappointed. Travelling with an adult son, two rooms were booked, but due to a late cancellation, upon arrival we were offered an upgrade to a two-bedroomed suite, without extra charge. The suites are effectively on the roof of the hotel and while probably in need of refurbishment, there was plenty of space both inside and outside the suite, with a large lounge area, two large bedrooms and large bathroom. Outside, a large terrace with sunbeds and patio furniture provided for exclusive use, plus superb views over the bay and coastline. I would have gladly paid extra for this. The hotel staff were superb, friendly, fun and made every effort to ensure an altogether pleasant family holiday.

Great Hotel, with its own beach and a good pool.
Everyone was polite and helpful. The rooms are big, and were kept very clean. Breakfast selection very good. The free bar is a surprise. It meant that, after a week, I had no extras.

Great hotel
Wanted a relaxing week away in the sun and chose the hotel because of the great reviews. Wasn't disappointed! The food served in the evenings was lovely and the desserts were amazing. Bar staff in the main bar were brilliant and very friendly, as was the lady doing all of the entertainment. Had a spacious seaview room with a great balcony, couldn't find any fault with the room at all. The hotel was a short walk from the 'lake', where there are some great restaurants.

The staff wasn't really nice. When we asked the girl at the reception what there was to do around, she said nothing! The room wasn't really clean. We didn't even wanted to sleep on the bed because the sheets were dirty. The carpet was stained also. There's a pool with a lot of long chair, which is good. The hotel is in front of the beach.

A definite 'must stay' hotel
We stayed at the Dessole Hermes for 2 weeks and couldn't have asked for more in relation to the service, staff, food and location. We were upgraded to a sea view room and this was truly magical. Waking up to a beautiful view of the sea each day and seeing the sunset each evening was wonderful. It is a 5 minute walk from the town centre and the port where some brilliant excursions are available. The only improvement we would suggest is better wifi and this was slaughter hit and miss. Overall, we would recommend this hotel to anybody; families, couples, young and old.

Very nice hotel !
The hotel and staff were very nice, and it is close to the water - also clean and inviting. Advisory - unknown to us until we got there, men are required to wear long pants to eat dinner at the hotel at night - but not other meals. Don't forget to pack them - or you can't eat there.

Very good location, great stay!
The hotel is in a great location with direct access to a beach (beaches in Crete are public, so you have to pay for equipment). Hard working and polite staff (especially reception and housekeeping teams). The hotel has an amazing terrace overlooking the sea, where we enjoyed breakfast, dinner and our evening drinks. The room was a bit rustic but spacious, well equipped and most importantly always immaculate!the storage space was a bit limited, but it was just two of us so it was fine. the evening buffet was really good quality and the menu various - lots of local products to enjoy, especially if you love patisserie.

Wonderful central location and marvellous hotel
We loved the hotel, the staff couldn't be working harder to ensure the guests have a great time, we stayed half board and enjoyed the variety and quality of the food, great bread, fantastic food particularly on Crete themed night! The hotel had entertainment every night and activities in the day aimed at a European clientele which was fun. We'd recommend and go there again, stunning views from the balcony of the Bay.

Great location right on beach and very near resort centre. The staff are welcoming and helpful and the prices for extras such as drinks are very reasonable. The food in the buffet is excellent with a large variety of good quality well prepared meals. The rooms are comfortable and clean with good facilities. The only real downside is noise and if you have a seafront room on a lower floor, bring ear plugs as music from nearby bars goes on till very late-after 1am.

A lovely hotel close to the beach and within easy walking distance to the heart of the small town. The beach opposite is made of pebbles, but within 2 mins walk is a lovely sand beach with loungers and waiter service for food/drinks.

My wife and I wanted a decent hotel with all inclusive option. Upon arriving at 2am, the staff there had gone to the trouble of arranging a dinner for us in the fridge in our room, a really lovely touch! We found the food to be really good, and always a decent selectiojn, if being slightly critical, the Greek options didn't seem too great, it was more a case of trying to please all sorts of tastes, with sometimes a lot of the same stuff night after night, that said, quality was good. The lady that ran the pool bar was amazingly friendly, and nothing was too much trouble, the staff in general were very warm and friendly. Ok....the negative....the arranged entertainment. Oh dear. Perhaps an impossible task, to please so many, but it was a little dated, like the decor, and the trio of musicians were pretty bad indeed, but i suppose provided some comedy rather than musical appreciation. Only other thing that was not so good were in fact some of the other guests. Lots of quite rude groups, queue pushing etc, which did at times make dinners feel like they were being served in a zoo, that said, once sat down, normailty resumed.

This was our first time visiting the city of Agios Nicholas on the island of Crete. It is a wonderful city, and the location of Dessole Hermes is great. The entire staff were very accommodating, from the concierge desk to the wait staff in the hotel restaurant! There were many activities available through the hotel which were fun and enjoyable, and the nightly entertainment on the rooftop deck were fun. When we return to Crete we will most definitely return to Agios Nicholas and stay at Dessole Hermes!

Hotel has a good location and room was reasonable, food was varied and of reasonable quality. The biggest problem is the hotel entertainment is very noisy, so would expect floors 4,5 and 6 (8 floor hotel) are so loud to disturb sleep - entertainment runs to 11PM most nights. Not good if you are a family or fancy an early night.

Very enjoyable stay
An excellent hotel. All staff welcoming and efficient. Restaurant meals particularly good, and choice of meals wider than anyone could possibly want. Location is near ideal. Seaview rooms somewhat spoiled because parapet is high and so this restricts the view when seated. The carpet in our room was worn in places; this seemed to be due to absence of decent underlay. Sun terrace. provision of loungers, and pool all quite good We would certainly be happy to return to this hotel again.

Great Location, but maintenance problems
Great location, views, and neighborhood. However, the rooms need to be redone, as they are old and need maintenance. For example, there are two entry doors. When the balcony door was opened, and the we opened the front door, leaving the inside door open, the wind slammed it shut, locking one member inside. We had to get maintenance up to get her out, and maintenance had to climb over the balcony in order to get in to work on the door. Fun bar, pool, and deck, though. Value was great.
