The cottage is strong on comfort, quiet and access to nature. The owner, who lives nearby, is friendly and responsive but not intrusive. The agreeable ambience is enhanced by interesting art, tasteful furnishings, a living room skylight, and a shoreline view from the bedroom (better than a flat-screen any day). All the important amenities are quite adequately provided, including a restful bed, thermostat-controlled heat, strong wi-fi signal, prompt and plentiful hot water, a pleasant shower-tub, and plenty of towels. There are nice extras as well, such as an Echo Dot and a spare smart phone charger. A pair of binoculars is thoughtfully provided for help in spotting orca whales from the lawn or from one of the island’s beautiful state parks. The cetaceans did not cooperate during my visit, but at Deception Pass State Park a bald eagle briefly lingered in the lens
