Lazy Oaks Resort is a special place — rustic, beautiful, and full of character — but it’s not for everyone. Yes, it’s beautiful here. Yes, it’s peaceful. But let’s be honest — when you stay this close to the lake and woods, you're signing up for a front-row seat to the wild side of the White Mountains. That includes bugs (despite our constant spraying), bats (they eat the bugs, so technically they’re staff), mice (adorable freeloaders), geese (loud and entitled), badgers (surprisingly bold), and yes... occasionally, bears (they were here first). Now, don’t panic — actual wildlife encounters are rare. Most critters keep to themselves, especially if you don’t leave snacks out like it’s a buffet for the forest. But still — if the idea of a spider ruins your weekend, this might not be your dream getaway. Pet owners, listen up: we love animals — yours, ours, and the wild ones that roam the area. But please keep your furry friends leashed and in your sight at all times. This is real nature, not a fenced-in dog park. Unfortunately the cabin was very dirty and had a lot of dog hair. It was so peaceful and the sound of the geese and ducks was pretty awesome. You got the cabin feel and privacy. The only thing I would say is that I don’t think you could 5 people into the cabin like it said. It was my son, the dog and I and it felt a little cramped. Not even saying that’s a bad thing! Wonderful location. But it’s definitely in need of repair & deep cleaning. It was beautiful outside with the fire pit and nice chairs but only one fishing dock was usable, the boats didn’t work,the horse shoes were broken & the outside lights only came on once etc. Everything in our cabin worked really well and efficient & the beds were comfortable and clean but it just felt old & dirty because our socks turned black from the floors not being clean, holes in the curtains, shower curtain folded over in half so it was hard to keep it in place while showering.. all the fixtures were falling apart, the toilet paper holder was barely hanging on but there was nowhere else to put it or anything because it was such a tiny bathroom with a tiny sink counter, etc. definitely needs some shelves or new fixtures to make some room in the bathroom.
