I do not recommend this property. It is NOT as advertised. First of all, be aware that Laie is a Latter Day Saints enclave and the entire town, including the hotel, has no alcohol available. This property doesn't even have a real restaurant, let alone a bar. I knew this going in, but figured we would really just be sleeping there and that wouldn't be a problem.
The pictures of the properties are misleading. It appears to have at least partial ocean views, but in fact what you can see of the ocean is between the homes on the other side of the street. It is not located in an area with any ambiance whatsoever - think big parking lot, McDonalds next door, not what you picture for a Hawaiian vacation.
Fist sign of trouble upon checking in, my husband asked if we could upgrade our room. They replied "We, you got the King room with a pullout, what more do you want?".
I didn't notice it in the lobby, but the hallways, elevators and definitely our room had a strong ammonia odor that almost made my eyes water. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable. Pillows were terrible and even the sheets were scratchy. The pull out sofa in the room - don't try to sit on it, I felt like I was going to go right through it!
The bathroom was ok, and clean, although there was no door on the shower and water went everywhere.
I've stayed at Marriott locations before and been perfectly happy. This was more of a Motel 6 than a Marriott and it was much, much too expensive for what it is.
