THE NEIGHBORHOOD: The Gecko Bungalow is nestled back off the main drag in a terrific Safe neighborhood area called Lake Gardens! Treat your stay as your very own Home away from Home! GETTING AROUND: We are located about 2 miles from the Phillip Goldson International Airport (but you will never hear any planes!) We are happy to provide Free courtesy pick up and drop off for you to and from the Phillip Goldson International Airport. Just send us your flight information before your arrival. The Gecko Bungalow is about 15 miles from the heart of Belize City, in the town of Ladyville. From here you are 1.5 hours away from Corozal Belize and Chetumal Mexico, just over the border to the North. Three hours to the South, enjoy the sands of Placencia and another hour past that to beautiful Punta Gorda. Nearby adventures include Altun Ha Mayan ruins with fantastic photo opportunities at the top of ancient structures. Also, take a tour to the awesome Lamani Mayan ruins. After an easy drive, you'll hop on a boat and tour down the river, Jumanji style until you land at one of our larger Mayan ruin villages, Lamani. Enjoy an included, served picnic lunch and take a guided tour. About 30 minutes from the Gecko Bungalow you can visit the incredible Zoo (more of a Rescue Sanctuary) to see virtually all of the wild animals of Belize. Plan your day right and enjoy a mainland "must-do" Cave Tubing adventure and an exhilarating zip line excursion! A short drive to the city and you can hop a boat to one of our islands for a day trip, or take a backpack and spend the night so that you can snorkel at the Hol Chan Nature reserve and Shark Ray Alley! For our nature lovers, take a drive to the Botanical Gardens at Cockscomb Nature Preserve or explore the jungles in San Ignacio....So much to see and do, let us help you plan your itinerary! We didn’t have set plans upon arriving so we took their suggestion to visit Lamanai and it was the perfect recommendation. The Gecko Bungalow grounds are so lovely; well decorated and comfortable. What an amazing and incredible venue. Scott and Michelle were absolutely amazing. Once I added them to Whatsapp, they were super responsive to "any needs/questions." They really went above and beyond to make my stay feel like we were guests in their home. Only downside to the venue is that the bungalow I was in did not have a kitchen, and typical breakfast was not readily close, but our hosts provided us with a full array of options of where we can go. The groundskeeper/property manager, Phillipe, picked us up from the airport and stopped at the local supermarket for us to buy some snacks and groceries for our stay. He was so helpful. He made sure we had a wonderful and relaxing experience. The property was beautiful and we were fortunate to meet the owners Michelle and Scott. He carried all 9 of our bags, showed us around the property, picked bananas, mangoes and coconuts for us from the property; the pool was beautiful and refreshing; the beds were quite comfy; the caretaker took us to the airport very early the next morning to make our connecting flight. Patting ourselves on the back for booking with Michele and Scott for both ends of our trip to Belize. We arrived late in the afternoon, Scott picked us up from the airport, took us to the store for a few groceries, and recommended local restaurants that would deliver dinner while we relaxed in the gorgeous pool. The next morning, we were rested and ready for our road trip south - Scott took us back to the airport to our rental car, and even showed us a really great place to grab a late breakfast at the airport. On top of all this, we realized we had overpacked with clothes that we wouldn't be able to wear in the heat (even in January it didn't drop below 78 or so at night), and Michele and Scott offered to store one of our extra suitcases since we had booked our last night in Belize with them at the end of our 18 day trip. Amazing! They then referred us to an awesome taxi/shuttle service to get us from the ferry in Belize City back to the Gecko on our last night. Laundry machine is available, all the amenities you need, and lovely hosts. Can not recommend highly enough!!!!! ##### Leslie L. The Gecko Bungalow is really something special! Scott and Michelle are incredible hosts -- when one in our party fell ill, they went above and beyond to make sure he was well cared for and comfortable, and they made sure we had everything we needed during our days there. Their hospitality is genuine, and you can see their passion for connecting with their guests. They make it feel like you're visiting them as friends, and aren't "just a customer" renting a room. The bungalows are super comfy & cozy, and have everything you need during your stay. (Finally, a place with beds and pillows that don't ruin you!) We were lucky enough to get a tour of each room, and you can’t help but appreciate the love and effort that has gone into every detail building this dreamy spot. It was a real treat listing to all the stories Scott has about building the place into a little slice of tropical paradise. Great location! When you're there, you really do feel like you're on your own private resort! But you are just a few minutes by car from the airport, market, restaurants & DiBruwry!
