It has a large terrace and barbecue to fully enjoy the mild Spring and Summer nights and the wonderful colours of Autumn, shaded by an awning and a beautiful fig tree. The ground floor is open plan with a custom built vaulted kitchen, stairs to upstairs and a further vaulted lounge/dining area. The downstairs bedroom is very large and has a double bed which converts into two single beds and an en-suite shower room. There is a door to a small gravelled garden with table and chairs. The upstairs bedroom is spacious and houses a double bed with a shower, wash basin and WC en-suite. There is a child gate at the top of the staircase. Both bedrooms have plenty of space for a baby's cot. La Petite Grange has 1 metre thick walls and so is very temperature neutral throughout the year. We also let La Magnanerie (Property number 1074115) which is an adjoining gite with two bedrooms for 4 people, so if you wish to come as a group, both properties can be let at the same time, subject to availability. In addition to the terrace, there is a shared grassy garden area with sun loungers, benches and a parasol. • La Petite Grange is situated almost half way between Lablachère and Joyeuse in the South of the Ardèche. • Lablachère has three boulangeries, two bars/cafés, a hotel, an award winning charcuterie/boucherie, an épicerie, a takeaway pizzeria, a greengrocers and our local cave which sells award winning wines. Markets are held every Sunday. • Joyeuse is an ancient small market town with an old town containing craft shops, restaurants and a Chestnut Museum. Markets are held every Wednesday and craft markets on Sunday evenings in the summer. • The Ardèche is an unspoilt area with stupendous mountains and gorges and views to die for! • Close to some of the “most beautiful villages of France” including Balazuc, Naves, Thines and Voguë. • Superb base for exploring the Cevennes Mountains and National Park, the Camargue, the Mediterranean coast, Provence and the Alps. • Close to La Grotte Chauvet 2 -a UNESCO heritage site • Stunning underground caves at the Aven D'Orgnac and the Grotte de la Cocalière Local outdoor activities – canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, bouldering, walking, cycling, mountain biking, canyoning, caving, paragliding, swimming, horse riding, tennis, boules, high wires, golf, skiing and bird-watching. • Bois de Paiolive, amazing primeval forest of white oaks and petrified rocks with labyrinth walks • Gastronomy, fine wines and local produce, regular markets and wine tastings. • Carrefour supermarket in Joyeuse. The beds were comfy and there was plenty of hot water. Our first two evenings were cool and damp outside and the gite heating struggled. Once the sun arrived it was fine. Sitting on the terrace in sunshine was enjoyable. Sadly it is on a busy road and the noise is noticeable. There were some condiments left by previous occupants which seemed very old. ##### Steve W. Jane provided the spacious bedroom with a baby bed, a changing mat and a small baby bath, which was really nice. We appreciated that a lot. Thanks again! The terrace is very nice, the kitchen is well equipped, the lower floor has always been cool even though it was hot outside and the parking next to the house is perfect. We only used the bathroom upstairs because the other one was quite narrow. Which was too bad was the fact that a prefectural decree prohibits barbecues in the summer months in this area. Of course, it has nothing to do with Jane and Alan, it’s just a side note 😊 All in all a great starting point to discover the Ardèche. We enjoyed our stay. ##### Lea P. The owners - Jane and Alan - were very helpful but never intrusive. Jun 9, 2012 #### A lovely base for exploring the Ardeche region Le Petite Grange is a lovely little gite for a couple to stay with a comfy living area and bedroom, although the bedroom can get a bit hot, but the owners are in the process of resolving that. It is very clean and well maintained accommodation with lovely views from the patio at the back of the property. It is next to a busy little road but it goes quiet through the night. The owners live in the main house attached to the gite and are very helpful and friendly, they are in the process of building another house at the back of the gite, but this didn't effect our stay at all. You would need a car to stay here as it is a couple of kilometers away from the nearest town, but it is a lovely base to explore the region which is beautiful. We came to do some kayaking and climbing in the area, and we had a brilliant time I would recommend Le Petite Grange to anyone and would certainly stay here again. ##### Lisa S. ### 4/10 Poor #### Mohit M. Jun 23, 2025 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Cottage with a lot of potential The property is built in the beautiful traditional stone architecture of the Ardeche region. It had enough space for us and the two separate bathroom were nice to have. However, the property is not ready for the summer heat of the region. The downstairs room is tolerable but the upstairs in uninhabitable. We kept the window shutters closed all day, had the windows open at night with the fan running, but the room upstairs was terrible. There were also lots of little bugs (mostly spiders but one adventurous slug) that sneak in through the gaps of the closures. There has also been some neglected maintenance like a clogged sink in the downstairs room and a leaky shower. Quick fixes that I'm sure the owner will make. Lastly, the check out process is far too much, especially given that you're paying a cleaning fee. We're asked to load up all the linens and carry them over to the owner's house. I'd be fine with stripping the linens and leaving them in the rental property. Secondly, we were told to put our single tiny trash bag in the nearest trash can, which is not walkable. Concernant le gîte quelques petites modifications seraient nécessaires. Juste une petite précision il s'agit d'un appartement et non d'une maison indépendante. La literie est confortable et c'est appréciable après une journée à l'extérieur ! Das Haus ist eine sehr schön zu einem Wohnhaus umgebauten Scheune, Es fehlt an nichts, sogar eine Waschmaschine ist vorhanden. Wir haben trotz des wechselhaften Wetters unseren Aufenthalt genossen. Jeder kann seine Privatsphäre genießen Einzig der Verkehr tagsüber war etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig. Sehr viel Platz und optimale Ausgangslage um die schöne Ardeche und andere Flüsse zu erkunden. Straße stört nicht. Bei Nacht fährt kaum ein Auto vorbei. Schöner Garten um zu sonnen und zu essen. Von La Petit Grange aus konnten wir schöne Tagestouren unternehmen und die wunderschöne Ardèche Region kennenlernen. Die Kommunikation mit Frau Marston war unkompliziert und freundlich. La maison est à deux minutes en voiture de Joyeuse ou de Lablachère, très pratique pour nous approvisionner. Les repas étaient bien agréables en terrasse, protégés du soleil (qui ne pardonne pas à l'heure du déjeuner) par un auvent. les couchages sont très confortables et nous avons parfaitement dormi lors de cette quinzaine de réelles vacances. La température avoisinant les 40°, la fraîcheur des pièces du rez-de-chaussée fut grandement appréciée ! La maison et la région méritent un nouveau passage ! Nous reviendrons sûrement. Cordialement.
