Rain at night sounds heavenly on the roof. So peaceful! You have a great welcome when you arrive, and they are very helpful! And breakfast is wonderful!!! If you want to be away from everything, hike the trail that runs through the woods, avail yourself of the hotel staff's night nature hikes and eat communally served traditional, simple but good Costa Rican fair and don't mind sleeping in what's essentially a permanent tent with a bathroom attached, this is a brilliant place. There are only about 10 huts, so it's a pretty small facility. The rooms have beds with mosquito nets, a shower and bathroom, and a balcony facing the forest. The only power is in the bathroom, although there is an electric light in both the bathroom and the main room. At night light attracted insects, but during my stay in March I barely needed mosquito repellent around the area otherwise. Be sure to have a relatively rugged vehicle and know how to get there or use a shuttle or taxi; it's located 3.3 km down a dirt track which will put your vehicle's suspension to test and won't appear on most maps or GPSs. Also note that while it's relatively close to La Fortuna, plan on 40 minutes for the drive, since the roads are curvy mountain roads. The hotel staff and general manager will eagerly do their best to accommodate requests, be it for reserving activities, transportation, dietary needs etc. ##### Toivo ### 8/10 Good #### James W Feb 19, 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities La Tigra was a delightful experience, but one must be prepared to be somewhat isolated. After all, this is an eco-lodge--not a resort or even a hotel. Personally, we loved the "tree fort" feel of our bungalow. Keep in mind that you are basically exposed except for thin tarps, see-through curtains and mosquito netting, so all the sounds of the rain on the tin roof and the forest are surrounding you. Nonetheless, we felt safe and slept soundly. Our bungalow had two light bulbs and one bathroom outlet. So, be prepared to feel like you're "glamping." The architecture of these structures if simply marvelous! It's obvious every effort is made to blend in to the ecology around, even down to the building materials themselves. And everything seems well maintained. But it comes with some sacrifice. You won't have WiFi in your rooms--you'll have to go to the reception area. And your hot water seems dependent on how much sun has recently heated it. Be sure to bring an umbrella, raincoat and we recommend a headlamp for exploring at night. Also, expect to feel a bit isolated. The drive down the mountain is an 8-10 minute effort. You may have to drive a few km to find a tienda or "soda." On the other hand, the food at the lodge is fantastic! If you arrive by car, consider renting an SUV with at least all-wheel drive. We had a small, front-wheel drive car. It made it, but we felt a little overpowered by the rugged terrain. Dann gibts noch einen Kochkurs und die Möglichkeit einen Baum zu pflanzen (beides sehr teuer). Personnel très gentil et offrant un excellent service. Nous avons pu observer plusieurs oiseaux, grenouilles et tortues sur le site. Se situe à 45 min en auto de La fortuna. Belle cabine!. Very peaceful and quite. Delicious food, wonderful staff. I would only request that they improve the living conditions of the chickens they have, that provide the eggs for breakfast every morning. Other than that, great, awesome, wonderful experience. Es fühlt sich an wie ein Baumhaus mitten im Regenwald/Dschungel. Eine Seite des Häuschens ist nur mit Vorhängen zugezogen. Nachts kann man also quasi bei offener Seite draußen schlafen. Herrlich. Das Frühstück war lecker (Reis Bohnen Ei Wurst Kochbananen Obst). Besonders ist die Unterkunft, wenn es dunkel wird. Es fängt an zu quaken und man kann auf Frosch/Krötensuche gehen - unglaublich.
