This is a nice hotel on the main road into La Jolla. You need to drive down to the part with restaurants, beaches etc. The upstairs restaurant is genuinely excellent. We went to a number of excellent restaurants in San Diego, and really, the hotel one was just as good. With a better view to boot. One thing which isn't great is the entry to the rooms. It is like a motel in that there there is a walkway with all the doors on one side and the other side is open air. Which isn't bad with a two story highway motel, but here, there are ten floors of rooms. So if you are scared of heights, I certainly wouldn't advise booking a room on a high floor, lovely as the view is. p.s. Remember when hotel's had room service daily? That was really nice. The espresso machine is great, but it is still no match for the luxury of someone else making the bed for me every day. Yes, I can make the bed, but having someone else do it used to be the great joy of staying at hotel. I miss that.

We stayed on a weekday. Over all, the stay was pretty good. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Initially we got a room right next to elevator, and we got exchanged to a better one without hassle. The privacy drop-down curtain caused a little issue: crumbled together and stuck. Other than these, no problem for us.
