#### Gaze out from this large cross in Parc Natural de la Serra Gelada, to see all of Benidorm, from sandy strands and mountains to towers and the historic centre.

La Cruz Benidorm is a giant cross that looms over the beaches of Benidorm from the precipice of a rocky bluff. As a reward at the end of a steep hike, the platform around the cross provides spectacular views of the mountains, the sparkling blue sea and the beachside high-rises of the city centre. Bring a blanket and backpack full of treats on the hike to enjoy a picnic at the top.

Walk along the scenic paths meandering through Parc Natural de la Serra Gelada. As the trail begins to rise, appreciate the spectacular surrounding views of the adjacent Levante Beach, where you can sunbathe and take a dip in the water upon your return.

Continue up the hill and reach the summit in about 45 minutes from the beach. Study the large metal cross, whose current incarnation was installed in 1975. It is made from recycled parts of former railway tracks. Stop at the peak and appreciate the wonderful vista of the Old Town area of Benidorm.

Think about the history of the cross, whose first version is thought to have been carried to this peak on the shoulders of the villagers from the San Jaime Church in the early 1960s. Its installation was considered proof that the people had remained true to their religious roots, despite the influx of sunbathing vacationers.

It is also possible to drive most of the route and just walk for the final few minutes as you approach the cross. Make sure to bring sufficient water and snacks, as services are scarce in this serene rural setting.

La Cruz Benidorm rises from the eastern edge of Levante Beach in the southeastern corner of Benidorm. Ride a taxi from the city centre to get to the base in about 15 minutes. Explore the picturesque surroundings for other gems such as quiet Cala Tío Ximo beach and the two points, Punta de Pinet and Punta de l’Escaleta.
