The room and property itself is fine, a bit outdated, but decently sized and perfectly functional. The staff were also kind and helpful. Mainly 3 stars because I think it’s overpriced for the location and the hotel age. It does have an onsen and free breakfast, so those are positives, but I noticed some of the residents can be noisy, and I think they host some sort of club or meeting for the Kyoto University students nearby, which can be a bit disruptive. It is also a 20 minute walk from the closest station, and also a 15 minute walk to the closest convenience store/drug stores. There’s a 24hr grocery across the street, but they’re pretty limited in their ready to eat meals, so you’ll probably have to walk a bit to get to anything. I know the hotel does offer a shuttle service to/from Kyoto station, but they only run certain hours and I did not use it, so I can’t comment on that service.
