Stayed there for 3 nights. Received a free upgrade on our rooms upon check-in so that was always a nice welcome. No idea what grade we were upgraded to, but the rooms were huge for Japan standards. Room amenities were great too. Bose speakers, Nespresso machine, bigger than usual bathtub with bubbles, and even a steam humidifier (although the buttons were in Japanese characters and there weren't instructions on how to operate it).
Hotel staff were really friendly and helpful. My parents' room had a faulty door and they managed to get it repaired while we were out sightseeing, thus avoiding the inconvenience of changing rooms. One evening, we asked the staff for help in making a restaurant reservation. Not only was that efficiently done, they also took the initiative to print out a map showing how to get to the restaurant from our hotel. Talk about great service!
Location was good too. Just a stone's throw away from the heart of Gion, and being a few minutes walk from Sanjo and Shijo Dori stations meant that getting about was easy. Downtown Kyoto was just about 10-15mins walk away. And there's a Lawson right outside the hotel too.
Breakfast was yummy too. Had just came back from Paris recently and was starting to miss the boulangeries there, so the breakfast of croissant and pain au chocolat sourced from Le Pain Quotidien really hit the spot.
All in all, a great hotel that I would highly recommend, and I'm definitely going to stay there again shall I return to Kyoto.
