As of March 18, 2026, we were notified by the HOA that they are replacing of all sliders and windows in the Indoor Pool area of the Rec Center at Ocean Dunes. This is a two-phase project with the first phase starting Monday March 23 to Friday March 27\. The second, larger phase will start on April 14 and end April 24\. During these two phases, the Indoor pool area will be closed to all owners and guests. (The gym and change rooms/saunas will be accessible during that time, with the exception of any period of time when the electricians will be working in the men's room where the hot tub equipment is housed). Make your plans today to stay at "Grohman", a 2 bedroom 1st floor oceanfront condo at Ocean Dunes in Kure Beach! The open design of the living room, dining area, and well equipped kitchen has breath taking views of the Atlantic. Sip your coffee out on the oceanfront deck and watch the sunrise as the waves roll in. Relax in the living room with the comfortable layout and furniture (the sofas is a pullout bed) and flat screen TV. The main bedroom features a Queen bed, mounted TV, private en suite bathroom, and access to the oceanfront deck. The 2nd bedroom has 2 Twin beds, utilizing the additional full bathroom in the hallway. Ocean Dunes is an ideal year-round vacation spot for families! Located at the southern end of Pleasure Island, in Kure Beach next to Historic Fort Fisher, Ocean Dunes occupies one mile of beachfront with several private beach walkways. Included with your reservation is access to all the amenities Ocean Dunes offers, as well as the Recreation Center. Amenities include three outdoor pools, a children's playground, tennis courts, a basketball court and cornhole. The Recreation Center has an indoor pool, whirlpool/spa, gym, saunas, and showers. For Recreation Center Hours and Information, call 910.239.1370. Ocean Dunes is located on the southern tip of the Island where you can find the unique coquina rocks that bubble up with fresh water. There is plenty of room for soaking up the sun or swimming in the cool waters. Take a stroll along the shore to see what treasures you can find using the private beach access. If you are visiting for the first time make sure you schedule a day at the NC Aquarium, or the Civil War Museum. Available Ferry Rides schedules time for you to visit the quaint little Ocean front town of Southport, where you will find little shops and plenty of antique stores. From Memorial Day to Labor Day bring the kids and drive up to Carolina Beach Boardwalk for rides, games and the famous Britt's Donuts, watch the fireworks on Thursday nights or the Free movie at the lake on Sunday nights. The condo is large and had everything we needed. Furnishings are old but that wasn’t a concern. Some of the electric outlets didn’t seem to work and the drain in the primary bathroom was slow. There was also an odor coming from the garbage disposal that we couldn’t figure out how to work. Despite this, the large balcony directly on the beach was perfect. We also walked across the street to use the pool in the rec center and it was also nice. ##### Molly H. It was wonderful to leave the sliding door open and listen to the waves. It overlooks mossy rocks. Note that it is in a complex so one thing you don’t get is seclusion. But it was still a very peaceful place. It’s very close to Fort Fisher, so hopping on the ferry to Southport is easy. The overall property needs upgrading. Elevator was dirty and run down looking. There’s a cart available to help you unload, which proved very helpful. ##### Gail G. The room was very clean upon arrival. The only rub is the master bath does not have a functioning towel rack. Be sure to bring sharp knives if you cook. You seriously cannot get any closer to the ocean or to the town shops and restaurants. So for that reason, I would highly recommend this condo. Unfortunately, the condo itself needs a lot of TLC. It is extremely outdated and the beds were not comfortable to sleep on. Especially the queen bed, not only was it uncomfortable, but it also makes this awful squeaking sound, so I was waking up several times a night just by rolling over. For those of a certain age, meaning old as dirt, this condo is ideal. Elevator on ground level so no stairs to contend with. Condo is one level and next to the elevator. The view of the ocean is spectacular!! Tall chairs and table on deck for easy sitting as well as tall chairs and dining table inside. Recliners for us old codgers who need legs lifted for better comfort. I took my Roku connection device for great streaming. Only two HDMI ports on back of TV so disconnected the Blue Ray DVD player to accommodate the Roku. Easy peasy to disconnect and reconnect DVD player prior to leaving. Bed in master suite is a little too hard, and tall toilets would have been nice, but otherwise, we were very happy with the condo. Hope to reserve again in the spring. ##### Jean M. Got there and entry code did not work so had to call Property Management who was responsive but it was an inconvenience and not a good first impression. Which was indicative of what was to come as we entered the property. First impression was this is not entirely what is shown in the pics online. The cleanliness left a lot to be desired; so much so, we promptly made a trip to CVS to get cleaning supplies! The living room, linens (especially the comforters) were in a state of, let's just say not comforting. The pull-out couch and its underbelly were on another whole level of "interesting" - we did not use it at all! Location was great for getting away from the masses and unit is ocean front which was a plus. Other than that, we'd advise looking somewhere else entirely. ##### Delane L.
