The huge, open living room and lower level entertainment room provide ample space and amenities to entertain your guests—a billiards table, 52" TV with DVD player, and home stereo system keep the fun going after the lifts close. If a professional kitchen is your choice, you have it, and the formal dining area seats ten. A large mosaic tile mural of Kirkwood adds some extra character and is certainly a sight to remember! Six bedrooms ensure ultimate privacy when it’s time to turn in for the night, and a private loft area (with additional sleeping areas) is perfect for the kids to play board games, read or romp around. Definitely suited our needs. We spent an entire week here in the middle of the summer. The area is beautiful, close to many mountain lakes and hikes. Kirkwood is quiet in the summertime because the resort mainly caters to the ski crowd, so make sure you have all of your essentials before you check in. There is a general store nearby that sells some basics, but the closest grocery store is 30 minutes away. We took a couple of days drives to South Lake Tahoe, and up to Tahoe City, but after the adventure we were happy to get back to our quiet retreat. The property management office was responsive to a couple of issues we had, unfortunately the washing machine was broken and a new one was delivered on the day we left. The housekeeping service left much to be desired. There was a garbage can full of old food that had not been emptied from the last renters, so the house reeked of garbage when we got there. There are no extra towels provided (we were there for an entire week), and a sign was posted on the broken washing machine that there would be an extra charge if we washed any towels. Not enough kitchen towels were provided for drying dishes. While the kitchen is definitely well stocked, so many of the serving dishes and cookware had not been washed in a long time so they were dusty and filmy. There was too much snow to ski in and out, but the lifts were a short walk away and the shuttle easily got us back at the end of the day. The mudroom was great for all the gear. The check in process was a breeze, and digital lock worked fine. The kitchen was great for cooking with our large group, and the two dishwashers are a nice touch. The foodies in our group loved the large gas stove. It wasn't trivial to walk up to the nearby run, but it was quick, and walking down the hill at the end of day was easy; we would be back home on the couch in under 5 minutes after popping off your skis. Very open concept. The kitchen was stocked with every type of utensil, bowl, serving platter and electronic device you could ever need. The 3rd story loft was very hot due to our inability to open any windows for 2 days. The air was so smokey which was not the fault of the owners. Thankfully they provided a fan to make it bearable. The only complaint would be the huge construction going on right behind the house. This also was not the owners fault but very loud early each morning. Looks like they should be done soon. The management company was awesome and accommodating both times we had called for product. Beautiful views from the porch. As an FYI. We went in June and there is no AC. We left the windows open at night per the managers' suggestion. In the morning there were dead gnats all over everything in the kitchen and dining room. It took a while to clean up. The management will not compensate for that as it is "out of their control".
