We had a really enjoyable stay, and the reception staff (especially Mary) was lovely and so helpful. Unfortunately, the heating in the room wasn't working and the room and bed linen were very cold which might that we had a sleepless night. The shower didnt heat up either. I brought this to the attention of the reception staff who will address the issue and they arranged to refund me. This however would not put me off returning because everything else was first class, and the SPA was wonderful!

Staff are very polite. Spa facilities are spacious and clean and offer plenty of amenities. Breakfast is everything you could want. Hotel is well kept inside. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Only a few issues, 2 of which were avoidable had staff been better informed. Had a first floor room and told to use lift via spa (complete opposite direction). Long story short spent 15 mins trying to find our room that was pretty much above reception. Arrived at the spa at 5:30 to be told that the spa closes at 5 for hotel guests. Have no idea why the staff member thought this. Thankfully another staff member overheard and quickly stepped in to correct them. The new decor in the rooms is… something. It may be to others taste which is grand. Not too sure what their thoughts were when designing the rooms, only for it being clean and well finished would you consider it very old and dated. The colour scheme makes the rooms very dark and the random chairs and pictures on the walls just dont make sense. I am in favour of the bright spacious rooms they had in my previous stays but thats just my opinion and it still isnt enough to put me off staying.

We had a superior room with sea view, Soap in the bathroom to wash your hands and a full mirror in the room. Everything in this hotel has just been painted over the dark wood. and is all starting to flake of already. I also went to the spa. In my opion i wouldn't say this is 5☆.

Made a reservation for dinner at checkin - we then didn’t have a booking when we went down. Dinner took 1.5 hrs to arrive. No one told us why. Dirty plates from kids dinner left on table for an hour. Brought sorbet out and don’t offer to our child 10% service charge added to bill at end of meal! Awful service at breakfast - had to ask for coffee 3 times. Fried eggs arrived after 20 mins No robes in bedroom Had to ask 3 times for a travel cot

The property has been all redecorated in big garish carpets and curtains and the bedrooms are so dark with the curtains drawn and lights on that you need a head torch to find your things !

Amazing breakfast but issues with swimming pool
The breakfast is the best ive ever had in a hotel. Fantastic breakfast. So much variety and very tasty. Service was slow when we phoned from our room. We only had one robe and needed one beforw going to swimming pool but took over 30 mins to get this to our room with 3 phonecalls. The hotel needs to be strict on kids swimming times they didn't address parents who brought kids swimming during the adult times. If you have a rule stick to it. Other than that an lovely stay!

Fantastic night away
Our stay at slieve donard was brilliant. Rooms were lovely and spacious, all the essential items available, the tea/coffee tray was well stocked with good quality items. Clean and modern bathroom. We had sunday carvery which was absolutely brilliant food. Breakfast in the morning was again fantastic and all food clearly top quality, really fresh and tasty. The only thing that let this hotel down a little was service was slow at times both in the restaurant and at the bar. We were advised at check in that the hotel was fully booked (we stayed at halloweem half term time) and staff were very friendly and apologetic about the long waits etc and seemed rushed off their feet, so definetely not the fault of staff, however it seemed maybe the hotel didnt have enough staff on to serve at such a busy time. This however would not put me off as i am sure it was exceptional circumstances whilst the local halloween festival/events were taking place in Newcastle on the night of our stay, and I will definetely stay again.

A fantastic stay. Service brilliant and staff always helpful and friendly. Really pleased to get a room upgrade. I don’t think you can beat lying in a sauna looking out to sea and up at the mountains of mourne.

Overall a wonderful stay….. new decor questionable
We were away for just one night for our wedding anniversary. Hotel staff welcomed us on arrival and upgraded us to a Deluxe Seaview room. When we got to the room there was a lovely card and two delicious cupcakes. A wonderful stay overall. This is our first time back to the Slieve Donard since the refurb by the new owners. Sad to say the decor is rather over the top for our taste ……. an assault on the senses with bright, gaudy clashing colours and no flow between different areas of the hotel. Attention to detail with the decorating is lacking, with areas of painting missed and poor paint job on the bedroom doors, badly chipped and marked already. Think whoever did the refurb / decorating, seems like a bit of a rush job and in poor taste.

30th wedding anniversary ! Greeted by lovely Mary who was super welcoming - when asked if special occasion we mentioned wedding anniversary - and she arranged 2 lovely cupcakes and a greeting card we could enjoy with our afternoon tea. Beautiful venue, really special visit.
What a beautiful place! Rooms and spa were beautiful. Dining area and bar as well! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and really did go above and beyond to make our trip special. They even left cupcakes in our room as we were celebrating our anniversary. Definitely recommend and we'll definitely be back.
