Parking was always on the sides of the street and is FREE. A great way to see the island however, is by bicycle plus there are so many different kinds of vehicles you can rent it is amazing. Come feel the loose sand in your feet as you sway to its rhythm. Feel alive and vibrant. CARPE DIEM!. You will be staying at Varela Street Retreat. Only a beautiful half-mile walk from the beach. My place has a full kitchen with full size refrigerator and stove. A complete dining area and a living room/bedroom combination and bathroon. You also have your own large private patio.The 1/2 mile walk straight down the street to the public beach is lovely. The beach also has a nice small restaurant onsite. You will love staying in this great location where 90% of the residents are local. They each have an interesting Key West tale to tell and are a very warm, friendly and diverse group. Here you will absorb the ambiance that made Key West what it is today. Varela St. Retreat is located in historic Old Town away from the bustle on famous Duval Street. It is only half a mile to the closest beach and a 7 minute walk to Duval Street. It is less that one block to the White Street art gallery district, the grocery, the laundry, the largest city park,restaurants, shops, bike rental shop and more. Go ahead, kick your feet up and make yourself at home! You are about to enter Varela St. Retreat. Here you will meander back a secluded stone pathway to reach your very own private, spacious stone patio complete with lush overhanging tropical vegetation. A table and chairs and plants await you. You can dine out and soak up the warm inviting Florida sunshine,chat with your friends or just catch up on some reading. The front room of your apartment is a combination of a full kitchen and a separate dining/office area. The back room has a queen-size bed and a living area complete with a sleeper sofa. The bathroom has a stall shower. The apartment has all new ceramic tile and wood laminate flooring. Varela St. Retreat offers FREE parking right on the sides of the street in designated areas. It’s so small. The bathroom was painfully small. The bathroom was of concern for us. The toilet area of 25” wall to wall. My husband couldn’t use & had to walk to service station. Highly disappointing! Shower was also very small measuring 24”x35” in diameter. There were no shelves to place toiletries. The area between the sink and wall to toilet is tight at only 18”. The bed, queen, is placed between two walls that doesn’t allow no room to walk around so one must crawl on & off bed. This was so annoying. Parking is nonexistent. There’s only street parking and availability is minimal. When carrying groceries, or luggage, it’s inconvenient to the max! There is a small courtyard out back and that is nice. I’d say this rental is for college kids who’s use to dorm life. Highly recommend anyone over 50 to seek other places or anyone who has mobility issues or of larger stature. I do believe it’s a good rental just not for us. Host tries to accommodate and neighborhood is great. Sandy’s has the BEST coffee and a very short walk. Streets are narrow enough to be more less one way due to parking on both sides. Rarely can two vehicles fit. I mentioned some improvements, took photos and sent to host. She’s awesome and wished I’d met her. Our stay was memorable. ![Queen bed. It's older, but that is a lot of the charm. Staying in the neighborhood was a completely different vibe. It was in a great area very convenient and parking was pretty easy to find nearby, the new updates were super nice and everything was really clean! I found the shower water hot the bathroom was plenty spacious and I applied my makeup at the sink. Plenty of room. The kitchen is well equipped. My only suggestion if you do not like a firm mattress bring or buy a pillow topper. Also, I had no problem getting in and out of the bed. This apt is located behind and attached to another home which is very typical. My friends owned a home behind but not attached 3 houses down from our rental. We had no problem parking. The place has everything you need for a stay with a full size stove and fridge, comfortable bed and roomy enough considering you’re out way more than you’d be in. There’s WiFi, AC if hot, a private outside patio area , beach chairs available, and the basic needs to prepare food if you don’t want to go out. It’s close enough to walk to Duval St or the beach. The owner is easy to work with and very communicative. She’s super nice and wants her guests to enjoy her home. ##### Shaun S.
