We were 2 couples traveling in Greece, and we chose Tsikeli Hotel after reading favorable reviews on various websites. Everything was great initially - location was very close to the monasteries, away from the main street of Kalambaka: nice and quiet. We booked 2 panoramic rooms with great views of the limestone cliffs. Unlike the rest of the rooms which were newly renovated, our rooms retained the original charm of the hotel. The stay was great for us. We slept well and the breakfast was delicious. But unfortunately for our friends in the other room, they woke up in the middle of the night with severe itch and realized that their bed was infested with BED BUGS! They went down to the reception and dialed the emergency contact number but no one answered. A lady came by eventually and after being told that there were bed bugs on the bed, she only offered to change the bedsheets as the hotel was fully booked for the night! As we all know, changing bedsheets does not solve the bed bug issue as these creatures reside in the mattress. A while later, one the managers turned up and after some negotiation, he eventually arranged for my friends to be transferred to Grand Meteora Hotel for the night. It was past 3am by the time, and it really ruined their tour the following day, for they were so tired and traumatized. The only saving grace: the manager told us the next day they'd settle the bill w the other hotel. We hope they changed the mattress!!!
