Wonderful ground floor condo in a concrete building with only a few steps to the front door from the parking lot.
OUR RESPONSE TIME is less than one hour on inquiries!!
Newly remodeled well equipped kitchen, air conditioned living area and bedroom, 2nd lanai off of the master bedroom, and lanai overlooking the gardens out to the ocean. Kona Makai features a community pool, hot tub, Fitness room, club house with ping pong, oceanfront sunning deck, BBQ/picnic area, tennis courts and covered parking if desired. The complex is gated after dark. Free wifi in the condo and basic cable tv.
All reservations are required to digitally sign a rental agreement between the person booking and and property manager to be confirmed.
Note: If you have a night flight, you may want to consider adding an extra day to your rental.

Magnifique condo

Très bel appartement dont un des lanais donne sur un magnifique jardin exotique. Machine à laver et sèche linge ont été très appréciables. La piscine et le hot tub un vrai plaisir! ! A recommander vivement.

Great place to stay near downtown

Wonderful place to stay. We enjoyed the amenities of the place. The property managers were easy to communicate with and checked in the day after we arrived. Just due to Google maps and the property, check in was a little difficult. They did have a wonderful email that later out the steps of our arrival. I would have preferred to have the check out information come the day before check out and not 4 days before we were going to leave. But the property, cleanliness, and location were great. We loved having breakfast on the lanai and looking out at the ocean.

Beautiful, but crowded complex

This is my third stay at Kona Makai. I like the location of this complex however it has become crowded making it difficult to find parking. We stayed in building 5 this time and found it very close to the other lanai's. Very strict rules about where you can use your phone. This condo had a nice kitchen but the rest of the condo is dated. The bed was ok but the out door furniture was very uncomfortable and the one lounge chair was falling apart. The towels are very small and old. With some inexpensive updates (towels, shower curtains, and lounge chair), it would be nicer. Don't count on the weight room and exercise room as everything is rusted and feels like you're in a old dungeon. The BBQ area and pool are on the smaller size for the number of people who live there. Will definitely be looking for a different complex to stay in next time.

The property manager, Dawn, was terrific handling the issue I had. Door lock was difficult until you figure it out. The furniture was pretty old and uncomfortable. Kitchen was sparsely stocked. The bed, however, was nice and comfortable.

This was the nicest and best-equipped condo we have booked at Kona Makai. We have stayed at various condos there over the years, so we had others with which to make a valid comparison. We hope we can book the same unit the next time we visit the island.

To many Rules! So many “NO” signs.

Booking agent and owner were great, property decent, actual onsite management is a pain. After 10+ years of Kona Makai we are moving on. No this, no that, don’t do this, don’t do that, our group had four units, we all had verbal or written notices. No surf boards on any lanai even ones that face the parking lot, don’t laugh to loud on your porch, don’t drink coffee from a glass cup at the ocean front kitchen, don’t use the exercise room to early, don’t play pickle ball on the tennis court. Don’t, don’t, don’t. Rules seem to apply to all but those that make them. I’m over it.

Ground floor condo had a partial view of the ocean and had lanai on both sides. Well equipped and supplied recreation equipment and kitchen. Pretty true to description. Just a few things to note. Fold out sofa bed was unpleasantly unclean and the closet sliding doors were inoperable or moveable.

Home Away From Home, 5-Stars!

This unit is far better than advertized. It is very clean, in good condition, and bigger than it looks. The location of the property is right on the ocean, the pool/deck area is perfect for watching sunsets. It is within a mile of the Kona waterfront and beaches, and just 15 minutes from the airport. We never had a problem with parking as there are plenty of spaces available, many being right outside the front door. There are two lanais to enjoy; the main lanai is perfect for breakfast with the sunrise. We were very pleased with the amenities; the kitchen was wonderful in every respect, the bathroom was very clean and in good condition, the bedroom was large with a comfortable bed and linens. The A/C units worked to perfection cooling the entire condo on the hot days we were there. The ceiling fans are newer than the ones shown in the photographs and are silent and effective. The unit comes with other unlisted amenities such as beach chairs, snorkels and fins, coolers, etc. The front door can be tricky to open, but once you get the hang of it it's no problem. Just pull the door toward you and turn the key at the same time and it opens right up. My wife and I look forward to returning to this property in the future, it is our home away from home in Hawai'i. 5 stars for sure!

Great property in a great location

Good, Quiet Location

Nice property in a good location with easy access to island attractions. Very quiet and peaceful property. Comfortable bed. All windows and screens in working condition. Great supply of beach chairs, umbrella, towels and household items. Lovely lanai with comfortable seating. Things that need improvement: 1) Replace the door lock. Better yet, install a digital lock. The amount of effort required to unlock the door is ridiculous. 2) Eliminate the unpleasant musty odor...perhaps deep clean or replace living room furniture cushions. 3) Upgrade bedroom air conditioner. It was so noisy, I barely used it. 4) Replace the bedroom ceiling fan/light fixture...it wobbled, was noisy and did not provide much air movement even at a high speed. 5) Fix or replace the living room ceiling fan/light fixture...could not get to turn on at all.

Great Kona stay

The property is lovely, well equipped and quiet! Everything you need is in the unit! Perfect location, close to everything in Kona. Busses stop near by and bike rentals are very close. Dawn was awesome, responded quickly about changes in our check in and was so very helpful when we needed a late check out! Perfect stay! So Kona!

First issue this is the listing for this unit. (Beautiful condo! Oceanfront complex. Great Amenities! Kona Makai 5-106) You can't even see the ocean from this unit or hear it! There was a small problem with check in and I never received the email with the critical information on like codes to get in the lockbox for keys, but these things can and do happen. By the end of the first day we did accumulated a list of issues needed me to be corrected for our 14 day stay. #1 the front entrance door was sticking so badly my petite wife could not push the door open. #2 the floor to ceiling mirror closet doors two of the three were off track very difficult to slide open and the possibility of falling. #3 the remote that controls the ceiling fan and ceiling light was not operational. We could not turn the light off at night without turning the ceiling fan off. So these were annoyances So there is the end of our first day time to take a shower go to bed turn on the water get in and the shower drain backs up so you're standing in ankle deep water! Spoke with the complex manager the next day and they were most apologetic and offered to move us to a different unit but at this point I said no I will just deal with it. ------------- should have moved------------- Also the maintenance person completed the repairs in two days; things don't move very fast on the islands. Day 12 raw sewage backed up into the shower!! All of these issues are things the owners have to do it's called maintenance and obviously it's not being done in this unit. You would think that the owner could provide more than one glass and two juice glasses for their customers but then again when you step back and look at the whole thing it's very obvious all of the items in the kitchen were purchased at a secondhand store. After spa time with people who own their units I was inform that plumbing issue is a old one. SO THE OWNER KNOWS THIS AND STILL RENTED IT OUT.
