"Very nice hotel on the beach"
Great hotel on Kaalapani beach. These are time shares but also rented out as hotel resort rooms. We have stayed at the Westin Hotel and spa down the beach from here before. They are both excellent places to stay with friendly staff, excellent beach access right on the beach, excellent pools and plenty to do. The concierge services are top notch too. Liked the fact that the Villas have a kitchen space which can save a whole lot of money if you are willing to do some cooking, barbecues everyone can use and the rooms are large. The Villas are very family friendly which does make for sometimes a noisy outside environment but not to the point of being annoying. They do charge for parking for your rental car, but there are no resort fees which saves money in the long run. The whales make daily appearances right off the resort beach during the time of year for them to be around Maui. The bathroom had a large whirlpool tub and an awesome shower with endless hot water. You can snorkel or swim right off the beach here and get everything you need from the poolside services.

"Beautiful hotel with beautiful beach and pool"
This hotel is gorgeous. The rooms were very clean and we had a nice balcony on the third floor looking out to the ocean. The beds were very comfortable. If you like to snorkel this is the best beach on the Kanapali shore for snorkeling. You can just go directly from the beach. We saw tons of beautiful fish and even saw a turtle. The pool is really nice with a long channel connecting the main pool with the shallow/kids pool. The kids pool is great, it has a basketball net and there is a small slide. The hotel staff are all very nice.

"Nice Hotel but some annoying staff"
We stayed here for 6 nights in Jan'16. Due to flight delay (apparently common in Hawaii) we checked-in late at night. The check-in staff did not allot us the room per our booking. She said the preference (Ocean-view and King bed) is only for reference and they are not obligated to honor it if it comes from third party booking like Expedia ( Expedia, please take note!). We reminded her that we paid extra for the Ocean-front and then she said she does not have any room available per our booking preference and asked us to check back within 2 days. We checked into our room and found that it was not clean. We immediately reported it back to the check-in desk and they then allotted a different room ( it was almost midnight) which happen to meet our booking preference of Ocean-view. Wonder how this second room became suddenly available in the middle of the night within few minutes? She could have allotted the same room before. Very disappointing!

Pocket Guide: Maui Island Kaanapali Starwood Spa Hotels

Kaanapali is a prime vantage point for viewing humpback whales, which swim by December to May. The town’s whaling history is displayed at Whaler’s Village, a shopping complex and museum. Visitors also can experience the area’s farming past by riding the Sugar Cane Train, a restored steam locomotive. Snorkelers and divers can enjoy the coral reefs and fish that thrive in nearby Black Rock Beach.
