Azul Ixtapa All Inclusive Beach Resort and Convention Center

Paseo Punta Ixtapa Lote 2, Ixtapa - Map
"Beautiful hotel, close to beach. A few problems"
On arrival was told by the desk clerk that he was going to make an exception and give me a king size bed (which I had requested) and a view. However, I was not put in the main building but one adjacent to the convention center which housed the convention participants. The bed was low and the mattress was extremely hard. Each day the housekeeper would take our wash clothes and not return them until was asked. At the end of the convention, we notice that no one was on the elevators but us. It rained and getting to the restaurants meant getting wet as we were not in the main building. On the next to last day, we were told that we were the only people in the building and renovations would begin the next day and was offered a chance to move to the main building. We opted not to do so. The next day we were offered upgrade accommodations and told that we would have to move as we were the only occupants of the building and services would be suspended.

"Barceló is a winner"
My husband and I enjoyed our two-week stay at the Barceló. Initially, we were a little doubtful about an all-inclusive as we thought we would tire of the meal offerings. That was not the case. There were not only dining room options, but also a grand variety of food choices at every meal including fresh fruit and many vegetable salads. Access to the beach was easy although one had to rise early to mark prime beach and pool chairs. We noticed that the hotel was popular with all age groups--from retirees to families with young children.

"Great vacation!!"
Really loved this place and will return!! The beach is amazing ..... kind of a charcoal gray with gold specks all over! And soooooo clean ... and nice swimming right out in front of. The food was great, although you have to like to try new things. They had so many choices, you couldn't help but find something you liked. The staff always went out of their way to help you. It does help if you know at least a little Spanish, but if you try to use a little Spanish and tell them you are learning, they will most likely share the limited English they know also. Really liked that they had two pools and one was kept strictly adults only. Also liked that with the all inclusive, drunken and loud behavior was kept to a minimum.

Hotel overall was nice. The room was ok, not the best we have stayed in, but comfortable. Food was excellent! Check-In staff was rude.

"great hotel for the price"
Took my wife and two kids to the hotel for a fall vacation. The hotel and all of Ixtapa was very vacant of people. We go there twice a year and never seen it this sparce of people. Our stay at the Tesoro was our first and not a big fan of All-inclusive but the food was varied enough to keep things interesting and the quality was good. The staff was helpful and polite and our stay was very pleasant. A note to management is that you should advertise your fitness facitlity more. I have stayd at almost all Ixtapa's hotels and you have the best workout room and weights. Real weight, not some sand or water filled jokes you buy from Sears. My wife has a fitness competition coming up and was able to get full body workouts at your hotel. We will be sure to stay here again in the future. Also note my kids loved the activities you had during the day and comidic show you had at night. We stayed completly entertained on your grounds

Puerta Del Mar Hotel

Paseo De Las Gaviotas y Agua de Correa, Ixtapa - Map
"Quiet Tropical Retreat"
This hotel is not right on the beach but is a block or two away behind the plaza. On the back side it is bordered by tall trees and a nice view of the hills. It was very tranquil here during our stay with only a few people using the pool at the same time. There were always lounges available at the poolside without any need to throw your towel on one to reserve it. With cooking facilities in the room, a grocery store a block away and plenty of restaurants within easy walking distance, everything was very convenient here. Many iguanas live in the tall trees behind the hotel so it's fun to watch them, the squirrels and many birds that frequent the area. I understand that all the hotels on the beach are now all-inclusive only so this hotel is almost the only option to escape that. Relatives who were staying at one of the all-inclusive resorts at the same time, reported that half the people there were drunk due to alcohol being included in the price. We had no obvious drunks at Puerta del Mar. I would definitely come back here.

Gamma de Fiesta Inn Plaza Ixtapa

Av Paseo del Palmar, Ixtapa - Map
Recently renovated--was Holiday Inn. Staff friendly and helpful but Spanish is useful as only reception employees have English and theirs can be limited. Our room was as pictured for a double standard. Everything in our room worked properly (remember to shut the window to get the air-conditioner to work). Limited English TV channels but you are supposed to be outside enjoying the great weather. There is a clothes line in the shower. One bottle of water a day for the room. There was a coffee maker but you had to purchase coffee separately. Good desk chair. Mattress was new and choice of hard/soft pillows. Hotel has beautifully engineered pool, warm water, water slide, shallow area. Large expanse for seating and we were alone poolside most of the day. Swim up bar or handy servers if it is closed. Grounds are kept up. Small gym and masseuse are poolside. Our second floor west wing room overlooked the pool and we loved it. We keep our windows open all night. Hotel was quiet except on weekends when it fills up with weekending families. Piano music drifting up to our room over the bar was wonderful! Excellent pianist. The bar music shuts down at 10:30PM but partying on weekends can last longer. The bar and restaurant are open air and some hotel rooms have large balconies and those tend to be occupied by party crowd or large families. The noise can carry. So we closed our window two nights to help lessen the noise until it ended. No traffic noise though.

"Best Esthetic Experience in Mexico"
This was my third stay and as fantastic as ever. Quaint, tropical jungle setting with white sand beach. This is authentic Mexico with a world class view and location, not the "Hilton".. The rooms are 1950 era but well maintained and like new. Staff is excellent. If you want an "American style setting" stay in Ixtapa. If you want real Mexico, stay at the Catalina. Be aware the property is built on a hillside with long steps, if you are not in reasonable health, don't stay here. The Catalina is a rare find and most people visit again and again....
