We stayed at the Birkdale for two nights. Everything from checking in, the room, facilities, the comprehensive information pack were perfect. Everything has been thought of, and it has to be one of the cleanest hotels I have ever used everything was spotless. The breakfast choice was varied, and once again everything had been thought of, and was on the table ready upon arriving in the dining room. The food was fresh and delicious, and the service was great. Would highly recommend to anyone. Lesley and Colin were most helpful and made sure we had everything we needed for a lovely weekend. Nothing was too much trouble.

The Birkdale is a Superb Guest House.
We had a fantastic three night stay thanks to Lesley, Colin and Sarah. From the welcoming chat, over a cup of coffee, Lesley and Colin were excellent and friendly hosts who provided everything that we could wish for to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We particularly enjoyed the nice touches such as Lesley’s homemade yoghurt at breakfast and her homemade biscuits, provided in the room, which were very tasty. The Guest House is spotlessly clean and well maintained and we had no COVID concerns. Rooms can be serviced daily on request but cleaning materials are also provided in the wardrobe. The breakfasts, which are pre-ordered the night before from an extensive menu, are very generous, delicious, cooked to perfection and served with a welcoming smile by Sarah. The breakfasts set us up for the whole day! We stayed in the first floor four poster bedroom which is very comfortable and spacious with a compact shower room. Additional comforts are a fan, hair dryer and small fridge for the storage of fresh milk and cold water. Two bottles of Spring Water are provided in the fridge which can be refilled from the complimentary water cooler in the hallway. There is one parking space available for each room and the Birkdale’s location is only a few minutes’ walk from Shanklin Old Village with its numerous attractions, shops, restaurants and pubs. We would thoroughly recommend the Birkdale and would have no hesitation in booking again the next time we visit the Isle of Wight.

Friendly owners, great breakfast, a clean, newly decorated and comfortable room with USB charging ports and good wi-fi. The location is good, close to restaurants and the village. We enjoyed our stay and I recommend it.

Fabulous great value guest house
We stayed for 4 nights in the Superior King with four-poster bed and we were not disappointed. Lesley and Colin were warm, friendly hosts and the room was large, airy and very clean. The shower room was compact but perfectly suitable and the breakfast choices were generous and beautifully cooked. All in all we were so pleased we stayed at the Birkdale and if (when) we return to Shanklin we will have no hesitation in booking at the Birkdale again.

Very clean Jackie and Bill were the perfect hosts the breakfast was one of the best and nothing was too nuch bother for either Jackie or Bill. This was our third visit and we will be back next year.

Well located property, with convenient off-road parking tight in front. Within a minute's walk from shops, pubs, and restaurants. The room we were in was large, airy, tastefully decorated and comfortable, with an en suite and a four-poster bed. Tea/coffee making facilities were provided, along with a hair dryer. I cannot think of anything amiss! The hosts were superb - very welcoming and friendly. The breakfasts on offer were of very high standard, with choices including superb cooked breakfast. Overall, an excellent stay for 3 nights was had by my wife and myself.

Book the twin room and staff very help full but I think the twin room on ground floor was a little small for my mum and dad but saying this mum and dad had a lovely’ stay thank you for taking care of them 👍 would book a big room next. I Recommend you look around the village 👍👍

A Real Gem in Shanklin
We spent a long weekend at The Birkdale Guest House and had wonderful service and were made very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and Jackie gave us lots of tips and advice on where to eat and visit. The breakfasts were freshly cooked to order and lots of fresh fruit and home made jams were a great touch. We were situated right in the main town so close to some lovely pubs and restaurants and not very far from the beach area. Also plenty of car spaces on the forecourt so never a problem to park. We had a standard room on the first floor which was lovely but next time we would book a superior room as larger.

The Birkdale is a well located establishment within easy walking distance for the local town Shanklin. The owners (Bill & Jackie) are very friendly and helpful. Facilities at the Birkdale are excellent, well furnished, clean and the hospitality is great and was much appreciated by us. Breakfasts would satisfy even the fussiest of eaters as the sheer variety of choices covered all tastes. Would highly recommend the Birkdale to all visitors to Isle of Wight.

Das B&B in zentraler Lage der Stadt Shanklin wird von einem älteren Ehepaar geführt. Der Umgang ist sehr herzlich, die Zimmer sind sehr sauber und groß, das Frühstück wird nach Wunsch zusammengestellt. Sehr zum Frühstück zu empfehlen ist der "Black Pudding", der extra aus Schottland geliefert wird. Direkt vor dem Haus stehen kostenlose Parkplätze in genügender Anzahl zur Verfügung. Der Strand von Shanklin ist innerhalb von 10 Minuten fußläufig zu erreichen. Von Shanklin aus kann mit dem Fahrrad zu einer Tagestour über ca. 60 km auf dem "Red Squirrel Trail" gestartet werden. Alles in allem ein sehr zu empfehlendes B&B.

Firstly the attention to detail was very good, from the makeup flannel to the lovely little jam pots, we were greeted with a cup of tea in a lovely lounge which was spotless, the bedroom was also very clean and tidy the decor was also very tasteful, my only downside was the bed for me it was to hard But that me, the location was very good with some nice places to eat within walking distance, all in all a lovely place to stay well done to Jackie and Bill,for a great stay and a great breakfast.

Immaculately clean, superior fixtures and fittings, you can tell the owners care and take a pride in their guest house. You don't need to ask for anything, they have thought of everything to the finest detail. Everything works as it should. We had a superior room upstairs, the shower was spacious and the water pressure was powerful. Another bonus is they have the same number of parking spaces as they have rooms. Superb breakfast. Very highly recommended.

Lovely hotel in a great location
Bill and Jackie made us feel really welcome. Our room, with spa bath, was beautiful and spacious and the location of the hotel was perfect. A quiet location but only a few step away from everything - 10 minutes walk to the beach and plenty of pubs and restaurants within a couple of minutes walk. We were there over the Easter weekend and all guests were greeted with a chocolate bunny at their breakfast table on Easter Sunday. A really nice touch and an example of how well guests are treated and looked after. Would definitely stay here again if on the Island and would absolute recommend.

Lovely guest house close to Shanklin old village
Friendly, welcoming and attentive hosts. Location was excellent, being very close to the old village but in a quiet side street. The Birkdale was one of the cleanest B&Bs/Hotels we have stayed in. Our room was clean, well presented, larger than average and stocked with everything that we could need. Breakfasts were beautifully cooked and there was plenty of choice with accompaniments. We wouldn’t hesitate to return to this guest house and would also recommend it to friends and family.

This is the 2nd time we stayed here and love it. It's run by a couple who go out of their way to make ur stay pleasurable. We are already planning to come back next year. Even if ur visiting the other half of island u can stay here as it's a short drive. Lovely rooms, fantastic breakfasts. I suggest u diet before u go as u will eat so much !

This hotel was perfect. Hospitality of owners was amazing. Nice and comfy design of rooms, spacy rooms with high ceilings. New and stylish furniture. Fresh repair and excellent cleaning. A lot of variants of hot breakfasts cooked specially for you: English, Birkdale breakfasts, kipper (smoked fish), Scotts porridge, etc. Near the hotel - footpath with beatiful landscapes and wild flowers (up and down, near 10 km) from Shanklin to Venthor, also - near 100m - bus stop. We highly recommend. Thanks a lot of owners - Jackie and Bill.

Just come back from the Birkdale and had a fantastic stay. Very accommodating owners and allowed us to leave our bags there to go on our last day before our train. We stayed in the superior room with bath. Room was very clean and a great space, the bathroom was immaculate with toiletries provided. Room was serviced everyday that we were there. Breakfast was excellent, such a wide range of cereals, fruit, yoghurts and that's before the cooked breakfast. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to stay in the Old Shanklin Village as it is just a short walk to the village and there are lots of places to eat locally.
