It is known for its sandy, child-friendly beaches, good restaurants and bars. More active guests can enjoy scuba diving, jet-skiing, water-skiing and a children’s playground by the beach. For self-catering there are several good supermarkets close by, as well as some smaller shops. There is plenty for visitors to do away from the coast, with many charming hill towns. Kruje (1 hour) is home to 5th-century Kruje Castle, as well as Kruje Bazaar which dates back to the 17th century. Here you can find authentic Albanian carpets, textiles and ceramics. There are also hiking routes in the surrounding mountains which range from the easy to the challenging. Adults will also enjoy a tour of Duka Winery and Vineyard (15-minute drive) which includes wine tasting and a fine lunch. Tirana is a 45-minute drive and makes a great day trip. It is an eclectic mix of Ottoman, Soviet and Fascist architecture. The city is easy to explore on foot. Blloku is an exciting, young area, full of cafés and interesting boutiques.
