The main tributaries from the Uruguayan territory are the Cebollatí and Tacuarí rivers and, on the border between both nations, the Yaguarón (in Portuguese, Jaguarão). The San Gonzalo river or canal connects this lagoon with the Los Patos lagoon, an even larger lagoon, of the albufera type, connected to the Atlantic Ocean
