Brekka - Stunning Country & Ocean View Location, Yet Close To Reykjavik

At lodge Brekka you sure have a warm welcome, independent of weather. You'll feel comfortable in the nice open space of the house and the big terrace around, enjoying the privacy of this pristine site. The inviting geothermal tub is discretely placed in the bushes of the birch midst in the pure nature. The location is superb with a great view with ever changing shades of light on the Hvalfjord-bay and the Atlantic Ocean, and the mountain group Sulur in the other direction. A little creek makes the border of the property as it flows by in the gully. The lodge Brekka (means slope) is a beautiful house, finished in 2013. It is sitting nicely in the hillside, hence the name. For 6 people you have a lot of space, additionally there is a double sleeping couch in the open space upstairs, ideal for kids. That way Brekka can accommodate 8 people on request. Please notice, if booked for more than 6 guests a surcharge pr. person, will apply.
Brekka is a gorgeous place to stay, a real retreat from Reykjavik, "Fairly close but far enough". The house is approximately 45 minutes drive from Reykjavík and only about 1,5 hours from the KEF airport. Brekka has a free glass fibre connection for Internet and TV.
Are you heading North, West, South or East? We also run the quality cottages "Hamragil" by the town Akureyri up North (Booking Numbrer 3925011), "Tvera" at the south coast of the Westfjords (4084081), "Stekkar" south of the great sights Geysir and Gullfoss (2903253) and Borgarbrekka 35 km east of town Höfn, in South East Iceland (9408171).

Fabulous property near the fjord!

We absolutely loved staying here! The views were breathtaking. The location allowed for a quiet, peaceful stay with the ability to see the northern lights without light pollution, and was not far from many sites and attractions. The property was clean and had everything we needed to be comfortable and enjoy our time there. We would definitely recommend this property to others and would love to stay here again!

Anniversary trip

This is in a beautiful location, the house was in excellent condition, and the owner was very responsive. The property is awesome with the views, the hot tub, and the creek running through it.

Great directions, the view of water and mountains, all the windows to enjoy the view, and your own geothermal hot springs contained in a tub! We totally loved everything about this house up the hill! The heated floors were so welcome, as well as the gorgeous deck!

Brekka lodge

Cute little house with a spectacular view. Wish there was a dryer with the washer or drying function within washer as we weren’t able to do laundry as we hoped (not enough space on drying rack for all of our clothes). Kitchen was very useful for a family with kids. Loved the secluded location to enjoy the scenic views.

Love this Home Base!

We were looking for a place that is in the middle of the area we wanted to be. From this place we could go North, South, up to the peninsula, the Gullfoss Waterfall, or to the airport all within a daytrip. What a great treasure we found in Brekka! It was the perfect location, the view was amazing, and it was a great place to relax after our day out.The kitchen had everything we needed for our dinners, and it was wonderful to do small loads of laundry while we were there. Brekka was the perfect place for us!

Amazing and Restorative Place

Brekka lodge is a perfect place to stay if you're looking for some rest and relaxation. The lodges in this area all have quite a bit of space and privacy to them. The area it is in is a beautiful place, with convenient proximity to various places to explore in Iceland. Experienced hikers can go to Glymur waterfall at the eastern end of Hvalfjordur. Nearby Hvammvik springs on the south side of the bay gives you a place to swim in the ocean, and then warm up in a thermal pool. Reykjavik is less than an hour away by car, and to the north and west, you have the beautiful Snaefellsnes and other historic places, such as Reykholt. The geothermal tub was very relaxing, and I believe it helped me correct a skin condition on my hand (dermatitis / eczema); after the trip my hand has never looked this good in over 6 years. I would definitely come back to Iceland and stay at another Nordic Lodge in the future!

Secluded Home with a Fabulous View!

We enjoyed our stay at Brekka Lodge! We never watched any television, because we preferred to watch the view either from the living area, the deck, or the geo thermal tub. The house is well located to lots of sights and is also very close to the trailhead to Glymur Falls, a stunning waterfall that is worth the hike! It is much better to take the longer trail that goes to the left. The shorter trail is much steeper and, for now, the log crossing over the river is down. We also enjoyed eating at nearby Hótel Laxárbakki. They have a small menu, but delicious homemade meals. We highly recommend the fish stew. As for the house, it is clean, nice, in a quiet area and you can't beat the views! The host, Jon, is very quick to respond if you have any questions.

Brekka at Christmas

Our family stayed at Brekka for the holiday season. The host’s directions were spot on and we found the house no trouble at night,in the snow, and never having been to Iceland before. The house was warm and clean on arrival & fully stocked with all utensils and cooking pots and pans, etc we needed for our stay. The three bedrooms and upstairs loft all got used as sleeping quarters; everyone was comfortable and the blankets sheets and pillows were all clean and inviting for a good night’s sleep. We drove offsite most of the time to either go visiting or hiking (Glymur is nearby as is Hvammsvik hot springs - both worthy trips), but each afternoon we were happy to come back and prepare dinner and relax in the hot tub. The hot tub is amazing (once you get the hang of operating it!). I did drain it once by accident, but then figured it out easily and we were back in business. We loved our stay - particularly getting a surprise Christmas tree from our host - and decorating it with a box of Christmas decorations that were at the house. Jon - the host - was always accessible and answered our every question promptly and with obvious pride for the house. His attentiveness and kindness made our stay just that much more enjoyable because he made us confident in where we were staying, notwithstanding some fairly heavy Icelandic winter weather. Hervorragend

Die Brekka Lodge ist wunderschön gelegen und hat einen herrlichen Ausblick über den Fjord. Auch die Unterkunft selbst ist sehr gemütlich und die Einrichtung bietet alles, was man für einen gelungenen Urlaub braucht. Wir haben hier den Jahreswechsel verbracht und hatten das Glück, an zwei Abenden Polarlichter sehen zu können - perfekt. Auch für Ausflüge ist die Lage ideal. Der Vermieter Jon Baldur war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Vor der Reise haben wir zur Einstimmung jede Menge Informationen bekommen und waren daher gut vorbereitet. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und würden jederzeit wiederkommen.

Simply Amazing

My wife and I stayed at Brekka during early-mid September and had an amazing time exploring many things Iceland has to offer. The cabin is in a fantastic location with terrific views. We saw the northern lights three nights in a row! The lodge was very comfortable and very well stocked. Jon left great instructions and food recommendations. Hotel Glymur dinner is a must! Brekka Lodge

Die Brekka Lodge ist wirklich schön und wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Die Lage der Lodge bietet nicht nur einen guten Ausgangspunkt für Unternehmungen, sondern auch einen grandiosen Blick über den Fjord, der durch Sonne und Wolken immer wieder in ein faszinierendes Licht getaucht wird. Durch den netten Kontakt (Schriftwechsel) mit Jon fühlten wir uns von Anfang an sehr gut informiert und jederzeit gut aufgehoben. Wir hatten knapp zwei Wochen gebucht, wären aber gerne noch etwas geblieben.

Das Haus ist so schön wie auf der Internetseite beschrieben. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und haben die Zeit genossen. Tagsüber haben wir Ausflüge unternommen und Abends trafen wir uns zuhause zu einer gemütlichen Runde im Hottube. Sehr erholsam.

Peaceful Nordic Lodge with Spectacular Views

What a beautiful and warm property! It had everything we needed for days we wanted to stay in, and was so welcoming it come back to after a day in Reykyavik. The drive was well worth it for the views of Hvalfjördur at night. The host was very responsive and we would definitely stay again.

Great house with excellent location

This trip included my husband, two adult daughters, our son in law and me. Brekka Lodge was very well located, very well equipped and had the most outstanding views of the water and mountains that can be imagined. We loved our time there. It was possible to do many day trips and then return to the serenity of this lovely house.
