### "The land of Sunshine" - fantastic ocean views, peaceful, romantic getaway

Located on the Hamakua coast in the historical village of Paauhau, this quaint cottage offers incredible ocean views, privacy and romance. Built on the edge of a large gulch with expansive views of greenery leading into the blue ocean it takes one's breath away. Large covered lanai (deck) with comfortable seating and an outside grill. Inside you have a full bathroom with generous tiled shower, comfortable kitchenette with full sink and counter, mini fridge, full-sized bed, twin daybed, and large flat screen T.V. Cable and wi-fi is included.

Nous avons beaucoup aimé cette propriété avec une vue magnifique sur le Pacifique surtout le matin au levé du soleil. C’était également très calme, aucun voisin. Nous avons aussi eu un très bon accueil de Jim !

Me and my fiancé stayed for 3 nights and this was an amazing place. The view, we were waking up to, was truly magical. There's everything you might need, from refrigerator and cooktop through shower with hot water. Kim is a very attentive and hospitable host. We had no problems whatsoever. I would highly recommend this place to everybody who is looking for some solitude or juat trying to discover less touristy north and north east part of Big Island.

This cottage is a gem tucked in a neighbourhood a mile or so off the Hamakua highway. It's a nice retreat away from big corporate resorts and tourists! The view looks out across a ravine to a peaceful pasture and the sea beyond. We had rain a couple of days but simply drove less than an hour west to a sunny beach at Spencer Park. Fun day trips to Hilo and Hawi\*! We arrived late on a Saturday night so Jim and Kim asked ahead if we needed anything and had some requested groceries waiting in the fridge. Sweet! (\* go to Gill's Lanai in the town east of Hawi for delicious fish & chips!)

Wir hatten alles vor Ort, was man für einen entspannten Urlaub zu zweit braucht. Die Unterkunft hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Als Selbstversorger bekommt man alles Nötige in der näheren Umgebung. Vom Gastgeber wurden wir sehr freundlich empfangen und mit Fragen hätten wir jederzeit zu ihm kommen können. Wer abseits der Touristenströme nach einer netten, friedlichen Unterkunft sucht, der ist hier genau richtig. Von unserer Seite aus können wir die Unterkunft nur empfehlen.

My adult son and I enjoyed the ohana unit’s location, condition and how well it was equipped for our stay. Jim was a gracious host. He welcomed us emphasizing he was available to help with anything we needed. An inside outside concept worked well. A studio for sleeping (2 beds), and a nice bathroom. A lanai for coffee, relaxing, breakfast while taking in the stunning blue water views.

Our stay at Jim and Kim’s property was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by peaceful beauty—breathtaking views, gentle breezes, and the soothing sounds of nature, from roosters to cows in the distance. It felt like pure serenity.Jim and Kim were phenomenal hosts—kind, welcoming, and genuinely thoughtful. One moment that especially touched us was when we asked if we could pick a banana from the trees for our daughter, who absolutely loves bananas. Not only did they say yes, but the next day, after returning from an excursion, we found that they had lovingly cut and gifted us an entire bunch. It made our day, and we were able to share the delicious fruit with our visiting family—who couldn’t stop raving about how amazing they tasted!The property itself is a little haven. My daughter and I adored spotting geckos and gently “befriending” them with fallen papayas. Their sweet dog was a joy to see around the property, and every sunrise, sunset, and star-filled night felt magical.Even our family from Honoka‘a and Waimea, who came to visit us during our stay, were blown away by the peaceful views and said they wished they could stay with us just to experience that same sense of calm.This place is more than a vacation rental—it’s a peaceful retreat filled with heart, beauty, and the warmth of two genuinely kind hosts. We are beyond grateful for the experience and would return in a heartbeat.

#### A wonderful stay on the north side!

This rental was absolutely the perfect way to start out our Hawaii vacation. The gardens outside were absolutely beautiful and the view of the ocean couldn't be beat! We wish we had more time there to relax on top of all tourist stuff we did. The room was comfortable and matched the listing exactly.There is a short, steep hill that you need to climb to get to the unit (although you probably could have walked around the other house to avoid the hill) so be aware of you have mobility issues...just an FYI...not a complaint.We highly recommend this rental!!

#### Perfect Island Stay with Ocean Breeze and Warm Hospitality

Kim and James’s cottage was the perfect home base for exploring Big Island’s trails and beaches. Waking up to breakfast with an ocean view and the Pacific breeze was a highlight. The place was spotless, nearly insect-free, and stayed cool enough without AC. It’s ideal for two or three people. The kitchen is simple but has everything you need to cook your own meals, and there are plenty of nearby spots with great local food. James welcomed us personally and was always ready to help, which made us feel truly cared for. Kim’s artwork in the house adds a lovely personal touch. Thank you both for sharing your beautiful place.

#### Absolutely Wonderful view and stay

We loved the view from the deck and the outdoor kitchen on the deck. The view was amazing as was the sunrise's. We spent our first day just relaxing on the property and cooking at the cottage. Jim and Kim have created a fantastic Hawaiian getaway with lovely art.

#### Peaceful and beautiful

This property was delightful. Our hosts Jim and Kim were friendly and right next door if needed. The little house is neat, tidy and decorated with great bohemian thought and original artwork. The yard is manicured and beautiful. Our favorite part of this stay was the evening concert of animals winding down for the night. We loved sitting at the outdoor kitchen table listening to the world quiet down as we watched the ocean at sunset. We will definitely go back.

#### Kolopa State Park and Honoka’a Getaway

Awesome views, peaceful, quiet and close to our favorite State Park, Waimea, and on the Hamakua Coast. Our Lanai had a great view with two outdoor tables and was covered. There was a relaxing outdoor patio as well. The kitchen was complete and the bed was comfortable. We will be back again. Mahalo, Jim and Kim
