"Lovely stay at Yufuin. There is a free pick-up and drop-off options available from JR Yufuin Station which is a must unless you want to walk up crazy hills to get to the property. The room we stayed had traditional tatami mats and plenty of space to lounge around before enjoying hot springs. This property allowed us to book a private bath free of charge, and also the public bath that is open til late which was convenient. There is also free Japanese kimono that you can wear during your stay. Many ryokans nowdays charge money to lend you kimono so it was nice that it was there free of charge. We booked Japanese kaiseki-dinner as extra, breakfast was included already into our booking. The food is absolutely divine at this property - Hats off to the chef! The dinner and breakfast was well-presented by attentive and courteous staff which made the stay very enjoyable. Thing to note of this property is that it is located in the mountains so there isn't much to do other than hot springs and a little walk around their courtyard. But it was perfect for us to have this quiet down-time during our travels. "

"Great value. Beautiful facility. Good service. Buffet dinner and breakfast were especially enjoyable. Variety of onsens on site. They even have a rooftop telescope for stargazing. Only con was the Japanese rooms do not have any shower or tub. Nowhere to take a shower in your room. You must go to the onsen and be naked in front of others to bathe. I'm not sure where one would go if they were uncomfortable with that. "

"We had a wonderful stay. The atmosphere, food, staff, and hospitality are amazing. We loved the onsen available on site, but also managed to visit other onsen in town (you can get an onsen hopping pass from the town visitor center). Overall very tranquil and relaxing. One thing to note is that the pillows can be small and you may need to ask for larger or additional pillows. Highly recommend and would visit again. "

"We absolutely loved our stay. The setting was gorgeous. The onsens were so lovely. The food was great and the service was warm and friendly. We would highly recommend it. My only issue was that the bed and and pillow were both very hard. "

"The photos don't do this ryokan justice. We had a semi-western room and it was very large (even compared to other ryokans) - so big it even has a little corridor. Room and overall facilities were quite modern. Dinner and breakfast was excellent. Private onsens require booking and a 1000JPY fee which is ok but half board for my 2 year old child at 5500JPY was quite steep considering what they served (and options are limited given the amount of raw food for dinner). "We had the most amazing stay at Gekkoujyu, the service is impeccable, food is delicious and the rooms are beautiful. The private onsen and the onsens available by booking are all amazing! Highly recommend it for the most relaxing, pampering experience!"

"Very special property that we loved. We stayed in January and esp loved the onsen and subfloor heating. Check in was easy enough because there was the option of online pre-registration. The road to the house was windy but not too bad - note that the GPS in the rental car may not show you the way. We used Google maps and got there without difficulty. We were thankful to have a 4WD and snow tires, because there was ice on parts of the road. Highly recommend the place!"
