Walk to the Wailuku River & the Hilo Bayfront in only a few minutes from our home. Also to note, New kitchen renovation as of July 2019! Although within walking distance to Hilo town, our diverse and unique neighborhood, Wainaku, has a country feel, with lots of historic homes; it's also quiet and very private. As we are on the magnificent Wailuku River, our property has a wonderful breeze at all times, and there are a number of beautifully stunning bird species that make our property their home, too. Also to note: both adjacent neighbors are on 1-acre parcels, which makes our home very peaceful. Enjoy New King and Queen Serta beds and Belgian linens, and plush cotton towels. Further toiletries include organic shampoo and unscented body lotion by Aveeno, cotton swabs, and cotton balls. Other amenities include: •55" LG OLED 4K HDR TV with 200+ HD movies on Apple TV, 400 MB WIFI •High-end snorkel/beach gear for kids and adults. •Laundry Center with LG Steam Washer/Dryer •Two Ice Chests on wheels for BBQing and taking on day outings. •Propane BBQ in the Screened Lanai Over 2200 Square feet of living space with a 3/4 acre yard to relax and enjoy your Hawai'ian getaway. Even though it was on a residential street, we felt it was secluded and private. The house could not be more perfect and the kitchen had everything needed for our stay, including a screened in outdoor space and bbq grill. Two bathrooms with all the amenities. The basement bathroom, in particular, can function almost like a sauna after a day of exploring. Well stocked kitchen. My brother and his partner made an excellent meal - macadamia nut encrusted ono - without any trouble at all. Aesthetically, this property cannot be beat. Plantation era architecture, with hardwood floors and tons of built-ins, adorned with artifacts collected by the owners. And the grounds are amazing. Lush tropical plants in every corner. We spent several mornings sitting under the small garden gazebo listening to birds and watching the local fauna, including wild pigs and a mongoose. Also, there is a wonderful veranda to while away the evenings. Finally, this is a great lication for walking dowtown. The Friday Night Market and Saturday Farmer's Market market are within 15 minutes, as are countless restaurants. A few restaurants necessitate a drive (I recommend Kenichi's) but for the most part you won't need your car to eat or shop. If you twant your rental property to be more than just the place where you hang your hat, this is the place for you. Now for two hints: 1\. Have bug spray. The house is well screened, but there are mosquitos in the garden, and you will want to enjoy it. 2\. There is adequate snorkeling gear for a brief excursion to the beach. The property is beautifully landscaped with amazing flowering plants and fruit trees. The owner was very attentive and left a bowl of tangerines and starfruit from his yard out for us. Extra touches of flowers, coffee, etc. were especially appreciated. We also enjoyed the eclectic collection of interesting objects/ art throughout the house. The grounds are well taken care of and beautiful . . . the fresh avocados were a treat. The frogs were very active and added to the tropical feel of the property. Kevin is a great host and very attentive to our needs. The location is close to downtown HIlo . . . very convenient. We loved the kitchen . . . very well stocked, chef quality cookware, and sharp knives (thanks!!!). We have no hesitation in recommending this property. ##### Bruce S. Great location to downtown Hilo. The renovations are lovely- brought some ideas back to my own home! The yard is beautiful and I greatly enjoyed my morning cup of coffee sitting outside watching the Mongoose & listening to the birds. The absolute ONLY complaint (and would not have been such a big deal had our flights not gotten cancelled resulting in a long, late drive from Kona) is there were no stocked beverages available other than tea bags. The house was a quick drive to the start/finish. We loved being able to walk downtown (past a beautiful waterfall), especially since parking can sometimes be hard to find. We also loved having so much space to spread out, the peaceful setting, the juicy tangerines from the front yard, the screened in lanai, nice easy parking, great laundry/drying facilities, and a big well-stocked kitchen - we ate most of our meals at the house. Based on a few past reviews we weren’t sure about the downstairs shower but everyone actually preferred it! Kevin was very quick to respond and very helpful. We especially appreciated being able to leave our luggage for several hours after we checked out. This is a great house/yard/location and we’d love to return. ##### Stephanie B. Stayed 3 nights in Mar 2023 ### 2/10 Terrible #### Regina Sep 1, 2024 Disliked: Property conditions & facilities Do not stay here if you want to get a good night sleep, it is very noisy with the birds basically screaming in your ears all night long (imagine a scene from Predator). The house is also very old and has a very bad smell that is like old house/urine smell in all bedrooms which kept me up all night. There are no blinds on the windows, just sheer curtains so the light from torches is shining in your face. The bathroom in the basement is very strange too, we were scared to go in there. No one in our family was able to fall asleep there so we left after one night.
