Rustic Cabin with modern amenities and 1 acre stocked Fishing Lake !

Deer Path Cabins
Welcome to Deer Path Cabins. Thank you for choosing to stay with us! Please let us know if you have questions or need anything during your stay. We live on the same property as the cabin, so we are close by and happy to help.

We would like to assure you that the cabin is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before and after our guest depart. This is to assure you have a clean and germ free environment as possible during your stay.

Deer hunters are welcome to stay in our cabin as long as they keep it clean and no boots are worn in the cabin. The house has a area outside to remove boots and hang hunting clothing for airing out. Back entrance to the mud room for further changing of clothes. The county has several locations of public hunting that has a high success rates for out of state deer and turkey hunters .

Cabin Information
DRIVING DIRECTIONS: We are easily accessible from the Appalachian Highway, which runs from Cincinnati. Traveling east, go approximately 45 miles to S.R. 247 Seaman, Ohio, and then turn right. Travel 4 miles and then turn left on Tom Brown Rd. The cabin will be ¾ of a mile down the road and on your right. Access the house through the gate.

ARRIVAL: The usual check-in time is 4:00pm and checkout is at 11:00am. However, if we don’t have renters before/after your stay, we can be flexible with these times. The cabin has a coded entry lock; we will provide you with the code before your arrival. .

SMOKING: Our cabin is smoke-free. Damage deposit of $200 will be forfeited if there is evidence of smoking during your stay.

FIREARMS: No discharge of firearms on property grounds.

OUTDOOR FIRE PIT: Firewood is provided and stacked near the fire pit.

CELLPHONE SERVICE RECEPTION: Most cell phones work at the cabin; however, we are in a remote area, so depending on the weather and your service provider, some days the service might not be great.

INTERNET SERVICE (WIFI): The cabin has WiFi, and the password will be provided upon arrival.

TV: There is a TV in the living room. It is connected to Direct TV. There is also a DVD player and we provide a small DVD library.

KITCHEN & BATH PROVISIONS: The cabin is stocked with kitchen utensils, pots and pans, a hand mixer, a toaster, a coffee maker, a microwave, and a dishwasher. There are usually condiments like mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, salt and pepper, and coffee and creamer available. The bed and bath area is stocked with bed linens, towels, and washcloths. Baths are stocked with Shampoo, Conditioner and body soap. There’s a blow dryer in each bathroom.

CHECK-OUT: When you prepare to depart, please leave the beds unmade or stripped so that we know which beds have been used. If you have dirty dishes, please load and start the dishwasher.
Experiencing Adams County…
We have compiled the information in this packet based on our favorite places around the area. When we travel, we always like to be where the locals are so that we can really experience the people and place. We hope this guide would help you find those places in Adams County. You can also visit the Adams County Travel and Visitors Bureau website or pick up one of their magazines in our cabin. They have a comprehensive listing of things to do in the area.

Hiking
These are a few of our favorite trails. To see others listed on the Travel and Visitors bureau website.
o Agnew Trails: We have some walking trails on our property. There is a short hike to our pond that is well stocked with a variety of fish, including Bass, Bluegill, and Crappie. Please bring any fishing equipment you may need. Local gas stations sell worms. Please return all fish to the pond. Take pictures of the BIG ones and text them to Jim!
o Chaparral Prairie on Hawk Hill Road near West Union is one of our favorite places. It’s located 10 minutes from the cabin. Take 247 South and turn right on Chaparral Road. Hawk Hill Road turns right off Chaparral. Go about ½ miles and you will see an Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources building on the left. Park there and the trail head is to the left of the parking lot. There are several loop trails that would be considered easy hiking. The best time to see the prairies in bloom is August and early September.
o Cedar Falls is owned by the Nature Conservancy. It is an unmarked trail located about ½ hour from the cabin. From the cabin, turn left on 247 and go into West Union and turn left at the red light onto RT 125. Follow RT 125 for 5 miles and turn left on Compton Hill Rd and follow to RT 348. Turn right on Cole Road. Go about one mile and you will pass a brick house and red barn on the right. There’s a sharp right turn and you will see two metal gates on the left. The first gate is the trailhead. There’s a small area where you can pull off the road and park your car. Please do not park in front of the second gate (the one on the right as you face them). It’s a private drive and the landowner has several “No parking” and “No Trespassing” signs up. The trail is an out and back trail totaling less than 2 miles. The trails would be considered moderate, but there are several steep cliffs, so watch the kids. The trail follows the fence along the field and will lead to the falls. The best time to see the falls is during spring and early summer or after a large rainfall. It’s also beautiful in the fall to view foliage.
o Buzzards Roost is a trail owned by the Nature Conservancy. It is a marked trail about 20 minutes from the cabin. At the end of Coon Hollow Rd, turn left. Go to the stop sign and turn right on St. Rt. 348 and follow to St. Rt. 125 and turn left. Go about a mile up a hill and there’s a sign showing the parking area for the trail. It’s about a 4-mile moderate trail that has scenic rock outcroppings and a view of the Brush Creek Valley. It’s a great trail any time of year, but the fall leaves are very nice.
o Red Rock is a trail owned by the Nature Conservancy. It’s an unmarked trail about 20 minutes from the cabin. At the end of Coon Hollow Rd, turn left. Go to the stop sign and turn right on St. Rt. 348, which you will follow to St. Rt. 125 and turn left. Go about ¼ mile and turn right on Wagoner Riffle Road. This is the tricky part… Go about 1 mile; you will pass the Nature Conservancy’s Eulett Center on the left. Go about ½ mile more and the trail head is on the left. There are no signs and you will probably miss it the first time. It’s a pull-in area that’s big enough for a couple cars. Be persistent—the trail is worth it! It’s an out and back trail totaling less than 2 miles. It’s a harder trail that climbs to the top of the Red Rock Outcrop. There are lots of neat rock formations, cliffs, and a great view at the top of the climb. During the long summer days, this trail is great place from which to watch the sunset and still have enough light left to make it back to your car. The fall foliage is also nice.
Public Hunting Lands
o Brush Creek State Forest: 11950 St. Rt. 73, Peebles, This area is located ½ hour from the cabin.
o Shawnee State Forest: 4404 St. Rt. 125, West Portsmouth. This area is located in Scioto County and is ½ hour from the cabin.
o Tranquility Wildlife Area: St. Rt. 770 and Old St. Rt 32 in Peebles and Seaman. This area is located 25 minutes from the cabin.
Swimming
o Mineral Springs Lake: 162 Bluegill Rd, Peebles, The cost to swim is $3 per person. This is a spring-fed lake. In the summer, they have a unique species of harmless fresh water jellyfish. The lake is 25 minutes from the cabin.
o Shawnee State Park: 4404B St. Rt. 125 West Portsmouth OH, They have a lake you can swim in and an indoor/outdoor pool located at the lodge. Located 40 minutes from the cabin.
Favorite Dining
o Greene Beanery Coffee Roastry: 25675 St. Rt. 41, Peebles, A good place to get coffee, soups, and sweets. They also have free Wi-Fi. Located 20 minutes from the cabin.
o Blake’s Pharmacy: 206 N Market St, West Union, across from the Court House. Go in and set at the counter to have a nickel coke. They have good chicken salad and pimento cheese sandwiches, as well as cherry and marshmallow cokes and milkshakes. Located 10 minutes from the cabin.
o Shawnee State Park’s O-Hee-Yuh Resturant: 4404B St. Rt. 125, West Portsmouth, OH, The park is located about a ½ hour drive from the cabin. We enjoy eating here because of the beautiful lodge. The food is good, but service is normally slow, so it’s not good if you’re in a hurry. Our favorite time of year to go is during November and December, which is when the Garden Clubs of Southern Ohio decorate the lodge for Christmas and they always have the large fireplaces burning.
Other things we enjoy…
o Serpent Mound: 3850 St. Rt. 73, Peebles, The world-famous effigy mound shaped like a serpent. Nice park setting and a good place to go on a picnic. Located 30 minutes from the cabin.
o Barn Sale Antiques: 817 Tater Ridge Rd, West Union. This is located in the Wheat Ridge Amish Community. There are several large barns and outside areas full of antiques. Located 20 minutes from the cabin.
o Adams Lake State Park: 14633 St. Rt. 41, West Union. You can go fishing and hiking. In the Prairie area, they have charcoal grills and picnic tables, paved walking paths, and playgrounds for children. Located 15 minutes from the cabin.
o Keim Family Market: 2621 Burnt Cabin Rd (corner of Burnt Cabin and St. Rt. 32), Seaman

Great place to stay

We stayed a few nights to get away from the city. It was close enough to civilization for anything that we needed to run out for, but very secluded. We will be booking here again.
