This is a great hotel for couples, and is in a great location to explore Gion and central Kyoto. The breakfast in the morning is tasty and convenient and the amenities are really top notch. My boyfriend loved the huge TV (even though we didn't watch it) as well as the beautiful canopy bed and built-in music system.
This hotel is so convenient to downtown shopping and nightlife, and located right next to the subway station. An absolutely fantastic experience and staff at a very reasonable rate. Highly recommended for any visit to Kyoto.
The host is good and caring. They are able to give you guidance for traveling around Kyoto. Maps are provided and 1-day bus passes can be bought there.
The guesthouse is located at Umamachi, basically only a few bus stop away from the Kiyomizu Temple, Gion and the Nishiki market.
The room is not too big but ok for us since we only have 1 piece of baggage. There are a common room and a simple kitchen. You can talk to other travelers when you share the resources. Overall the experience is good.
We stayed here for 4 nights over Christmas. Although the taxi driver didn't initially know where it was, he was able to call the inn to clarify. Check in was smooth and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The location is excellent, in a parkland setting but also good walking distance to gion shopping area. The Japanese room was superb and the building in general is extremely charming. Although it was cold outside the room was warm courtesy of a heater and electric blanket. Breakfast is good and again the staff are friendly and helpful. The only slight negative was a noisy toddler, as the walls are literally paper thin. We genuinely loved this place and highly recommend it to others. The building, setting and the staff were superb!
I had an excellant time here. It was comfortable, close to convenience stores and a few restauraunts but far enough away from the Geisha district so it wasn't too crowded. The free breakfast was excellant and the staff very attentive. However, my favorite aspect of the guesthouse is the owner. He was very kind to my wife and I and spent time talking to us at evey breakfast. He speaks english and is a genuinely a nice guy. Additionally, he cooks a BBQ dinner for free every Friday night and drinks a beer or two with his guests.
Heian residence is the perfect place to stay and relax in Kyoto. It has all the facility in a home and it is clean and well kept. Ana, your personal concierge can be contacted to provide you with information through a mobile phone provided. She is very helpful on transportation options and very nice. The residence is well connected by bus and it is at a quiet neighborhood. Sosui apartment also has a rooftop balcony which is perfect to relax.
"Nice location with pleasant staff and good price"
It is easy to travel to see all the sights by bus #100, 203,204 and 5. The room is quite roomy and clean except the bath room. There are molds and mildews around the bath tub, on the wall and around the sink on the grout. The front desk staff offered another room, but we turned it down. It is too much trouble to move around.

The shuffling of Geisha echoes in this quiet ward between the Kamo River and leafy Higashiyama Mountains. Arthur Golden's Memoirs of a Geisha takes place here in the Gion entertainment district. Visit during July for the Gion Festival. To the east, the high wooden stage of the Kyomizu temple floats above the canopy while traditional shops line the stone steps of Ninzaka and Sannzaka avenues below.
