A comfortable pleasant stay

I stayed in the Bobsleigh Hotel over a weekend. It was most comfortable and enjoyable. It is a charming, old world hotel in lovely grounds. Breakfast was beautifully cooked and good value (book the night before for the lower price). The staff and in particular, Stephan, could not have been more helpful and pleasant. I would definitely stay there again.

Shocking stay

A truly horrible experience with wood louse, terrible cleanliness and cold showers just to start. Not only that no one even answers a complaint at the MacDonald group customer services department. Booked six hotel rooms and a meeting room and it was awful. Steer clear!!!

Not bad but very expensive for drinks!

We attended a wedding at the hotel and were shocked by the drink prices (£11.50 for a large glass of Sauvignon Blanc!!!!) Our room was ok, bed comfortable and we didn't expect much from a 3 star. Hotel staff very honest as I left clothes behind and they contacted me about it. Overall ok but be warned about drink prices!!!!

Bathroom very dirty

Would not stay again shower floor was disgusting had to put a towel on floor to stand on whilst showering,shower was very poor no more than a trickle. Corridors were disgusting carpets and walls were absolutely grimly most def not use this grot hole again! Premier Inn all the way you can't beat them.

Tired and rundown

There was no-one on reception when we arrived and no visible means of contacting anyone. Eventually a member of staff turned up, but wasn't overly concerned, even when told that we had a taxi due in five minutes. This then left us with only five minutes to freshen up before heading out. Ground floor windows were left open by staff. Bathroom was rusty in places, smelt of damp and the shower was so eco friendly that there was very little water. However the towels were generous in size and pile depth. We had booked a room only rate and were offered breakfast. We confirmed we would make a final decision in the morning when told that it would be more expensive! Well that decided us, we ate breakfast elsewhere. Check out was quick and polite. Overall the hotel was tired and in need of refurbishment but the attitude seemed to be one of nonchalance. We have a lot of family in the village and for various reasons before not to stay over with them but will be using further afield accommodation in the future.

Service ?? what service

no beer in reception bar so went to "main Bar" waited 25 mins in and empty bar to get served, and gave up. complained to reception, his only response was "oh ok" the phone rang and he ignored me to answer it. So we went to the pub (Halfway House) down the road, guess what 4 other people from the hotel were there all complaining about the lack or service and interest. The room was BASIC but usable. WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN

Mediocre, in that the TV has about 7 channels, and you can't use the red button, the cleanliness, is not bad, the room was okay. But great free broadband.

Hotel liegt wunderschön im Grünen

Der Weg nach London ist nicht zu weit. Das Hotel ist recht rustikal aber sehr schön. Die Betten waren leider furchtbar unbequem. Gemessen an Londoner Verhältnissen ist das Hotel fantastisch. Das Essen haben wir allerdings nicht ausprobiert, wir haben uns im Co-op im Dorf Essen gekauft (10 Minuten Fußweg). Hier gibt es auch einen sehr guten Inder und einen Irish Pub. Der Weg zur Railwaystation Hemel dauert zu Fuß ca. 45 Minuten, es gibt einen Wanderweg dorthin, der aber bei Regen zur Schlammschlacht wird. Die Taxifahrt kostet 6,50 Pfund, ist also auch bezahlbar. Ab Hemel Railwaystation kommt man in 35 Minuten nach London Euston (13,00 Pfund hin und zurück). Der Weg nach Luton Airport dauert auch nur ca 30-40 Minuten (National Express ab Hemel, ca. 7,00 Pfund).

It's ok

It's not an expensive hotel and you get what you pay for. Bed was comfy and room clean but the hotel itself is in need of painting and modernising. But for the price I have no complaints.

Been before so we came back.

Overall the visit was very good and the staff excellent and obliging. Only little niggle, and it was only little was the toast at breakfast. It was like dry bread with no signs of toasting on it. The coffee was very strong also but that is meerly a matter of taste.

Clean and comfortable

My stay at the Bobsleigh was pleasant and comfortable and excellent value compared to the Premier Inn which was my only other option. Needless to say, it also has considerably more character! Something to bear in mind: If you are arriving on a Sunday night the kitchen is closed, so be prepared to make other arrangements. I didn't try the pub in the village, settling instead for a picnic in my room purchased from the Co-op.

Needs some T L C

My wife and I love the bobsleigh, but it is in desperate need of some TLC. Staff an cleanliness excellent . Shower nothing more than a dribble and often no cold water. Breakfast good but far to expensive

Reception service good and welcoming. Room 30(disabled) really excellent, Room 33(double) comfortable with plenty of drawers and storage, BUT Oh! Dear!, the bathroom was so very tired and small!!. Breakfast service dismal! a simple poached egg on toast had to be returned to the kitchen as inedible! And please, if Eastern European staff are employed to serve, please make sure they can speak English reasonably fluently.

The Bobsleigh is a quaint hideaway admittedly in the middle of nowhere. However, this was fine as we were heading to Warner Bros Studios and also managed to catch a West End show as the train station into London is close by. Myself and my partner found it overall excellent despite some of the negative reviews here and we're used to staying in five star hotels. One point to mention is the food. Whilst disappointed with the value of the breakfast we decided to stay for an evening meal regardless. It was the best decision we made during the few days we were there. Absolutely wonderful meals, the chicken and steal melted in our mouths and the service was top notch as well. I really don't know what some people are talking about here. We look forward to going back again.
