![Allandale Mansion was the dream home of Ruth and Harvey Brooks. They built and furnished a distinctive home on grounds which were designed by the same man who served as the landscape architect for President Dwight Eisenhower.

Allandale Mansion and its grounds were left to the city by Harvey Brooks when he died in 1969. One of the conditions of his will was that Allandale "shall be open to the public and held for public use and benefit." In 1983, the city government supported a group of citizens in their efforts to renovate the facilities and develop the use of the facility. Since then, Allandale has made steady progress toward meeting the vision of Harvey and Ruth Brooks.

« We absolutely loved our stay and could not be happier! The house was absolutely gorgeous—spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and thoughtfully arranged with stunning, cozy yet spacious rooms. The amenities were incredible, and we truly lacked for nothing. The views were breathtaking, and seeing deer, horses, donkeys, chickens, geese, and ducks every day made the experience even more special. The kids even caught a couple alot fish from the pond. « After a little confusion with check-in instructions, everything went smoothly. The neighborhood was quiet, and although there are train tracks nearby, the train did not disturb sleep or bother anyone. Since we were visiting to attend a wedding in the area, we didn’t spend a lot of time at the house. It was a comfortable space overall but the beds were too firm for us. I do agree with another reviewer that the “brand new home” description needs to be updated. Otherwise, the space was good and it...

« The view was very nice even though the lake was quite low due to the annual draining. The house was relatively clean, but it was old and could benefit from some nice updating, including kitchen appliances. Several of the lights did not work, and there were no towel hangers in the master bath. We had to wash one set of the bed sheets which were covered in black animal hair. We stayed in November, and the lower part of the house was cold and drafty. The oversized furniture in the living room was...

« The hosts were very helpful and the process to check in and check out were simple. The property itself was very clean and organized. Their game room, fire pit, and living room were great and we had a lot of fun over the few nights we spent there. The surrounding area is very peaceful and was great to explore. I would highly recommend this house especially if you are looking for a fun getaway with friends. »
