The pros of the stay were definitely the parking that was included in the stay and the breakfast which was not as expensive as other contemporary hotels. The hotel is somewhat tired and dated however I believe that this was fairly reflected in the price (when compared to nationwide hotel prices since COVID) so I didn't find this a problem. Overall I would recommend a stay here. There only problem was that the fire alarm was triggered falsely by another guest at 3am. This is not really within the control of the hotel but nevertheless I needed to be up early so this did cause me a problem. I would say that the staff were pretty good, handing out blankets etc.

I was made to feel welcomed on arrival. My single room was very comfortable with big bathroom and had everything I required. Would definitely stay here again as location to Harrogate is excellent.

Quiet, easy walk to town and a big car park, I didn’t eat in the hotel as spoons a few minutes away. Hotel not busy even though a bridal fair was on at the conference centre. I would stay there again if the price was good and I needed parking.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was ideal for my needs though the radiators were a little cold. Was only there for one night so forgor to mention it. Breakfast was a very good selection. Hotel was so close to the convention centre which was really handy for me.

Lovely reception area as you walk in. Rooms a little bit dated but I like a bit of character rather than a soulless new white room, and for what we paid everything was spot on. Beds very comfortable - nice pillows and quilt. Huge room and bathroom. Walking distance to all the bars. I wouldn't rush back to Harrogate as there wasn't much to do or see during the day but it was a good night out.

Overall enjoyed our stay. Cant fault staff. Decent breakfast. Food in bar very good too. Only issue really no opening window in bathroom so condensation running down the walls after a shower took a while even with the fan to go everything in the bathroom covered in condensation.

The building had a lot of character. With the high ceilings and open reception area, it was very grand and welcoming. The stairs and hallway were nice and wide and there was a lift available. The room was well set up, with adequate space. Our stay was at the beginning of January. There was a lot of condensation on the windows which meant you couldn't see out of them. The wall between our room and one next to it seemed paper thin. Our neighbours were just talking normally late into the night but the sound reverberated into our room as though they were there with us. This meant we didn't get to sleep till the early hours. The next morning whilst their room was being cleaned, a glance into it revealed that both headboards were against the same wall. Breakfast was great with good options. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and professional. All in all we had a good stay which could have been better with being able to get to sleep earlier.

This hotel would have been absolutely breathtaking in its time. It has some stunning original, Victorian features. However, this hotel requires a large amount of money spending on it. The decor is dated and tired. That being said, there was plenty of parking and the hotel was easily within walking distance of Harrogate town centre. For this reason, I believe that the hotel deserves a 3* rating. It’s such a shame that a hotel which would once have been so grand has been allowed to fall into a state of disrepair. I do hope that the owners find the money to spend on this historic building.

Long weekend away
The room was alright, although a little tired, threadbare carpet in two places, wallpaper starting to peel. This did not detract from the very enjoyable stay. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The food was ok, the evening meal a little overpriced but tasted nice. We would stay again but not eat in the evening. There are lots of places to eat in Harrogate, which did not take long to walk to.

Excellent location a few minutes walk from the town centre. Free parking. All you want from a hotel room - quiet, clean and warm, with a large bed, power shower, hot drink and tv. Great value for money in Harrogate

Friendly helpful staff, lovely and warm despite -1 outside. Good white cotton sheets, big bathtub. Outside our room it was very noisy from 7.30am as the housekeeping rooms were just outside and the trolleys were very noisy as they were pushed along and loaded with new requirements (just unlucky I guess), didn’t rate the bar food but that could be down to personal taste.

The Cairn is a little down-at-heel. Everything is slightly shabby without that being properly poor. The hotel needs a bit of love. The rooms themselves were, it seems, once double the size, but this is a three-star hotel, so no great surprises there. Its great strength, however, is its service. All staff were friendly, committed and able. I would have given a three-star review otherwise.

Expensive for a tired hotel
I managed to get a single room for £75 on a Saturday - the only thing going for it is its proximity to Harrogate centre, but it's a tired old hotel in need of some care, white bedding is yellow in places, understaffed, and the TVs don't work (unless you only watch BBC1 and BBC2).

Has clearly been a very impressive hotel, and has beautiful characteristics. The common areas are fine, with decent carpets and furnishings, but the standard rooms and the paintwork throughout the hotel need a bit of work. Value wise, it was good for what you get, and I would definitely stay again, even if it is like stepping back into the 80’s in some areas.
