Two teenagers in tow with us interacted with the horse and the cats and just unwound with my wife and me after hiking all around. Perfectly situated for Blackwater State Park and Seneca Rocks. Owners were easy to follow with instructions and expectations. Not over the top like some rental places. Also, the rental was direct through Expedia, so no hidden fees from some third party or even fourth party like we have seen with some other properties as we did our road trip this summer. Already planning to come back. While the inside is comfortable and has a ton of character, we found ourselves hanging out outside most of the time (thanks also to some beautiful weather). The surrounding farms/hills/mountains are so pretty and the property is beautifully maintained. We loved having the horses just outside - they were very sweet (and appreciated snacks from us ;). Overall the house was well stocked with things you may need during the stay and the bed upstairs was comfortable. The internet was a little slow, but met our needs to help us plan our days. The location was ideal for exploring Spruce Knob, Seneca Rocks, Blackwater Falls State Park, Davis, and Thomas. It was also an easy drive down to Yokum's (which has the basics) for some groceries we forgot to bring. We would definitely love to stay here again! There are so many amazing things about this property that just made us feel like we were at “home”. This property was filled with us the essentials including snacks, plenty of towels, shower essentials (in case you forgot yours), even snacks for the pets on the property! Which brings me to the next best thing, the BEAUTIFUL animals! There were 2 gorgeous and super friendly horses and 2 cats! They were the highlight of our trip 100%! The hot tub was the perfect way to unwind in the evening and watch the stars. The beds were comfortable, the place was very clean and just overall so cozy and homey. There are a lot of great restaurants around, horseback riding at Yokums stables which takes you up to Seneca Rocks for a breathe taking view, touring smoke hole caverns, and so much more! We will definitely be back again to stay here. I can’t say enough about this place and the hospitality that was provided. Truly left a mark on our hearts! ##### Madison F. Séjour de 2 nuits en novembre 2022 ### 10/10 – Excellent #### Neil J. 5 oct. 2022 Points forts : Propreté #### The Perfect Birthday Getaway My partner and I decided to take a getaway trip to the Seneca Rocks area to celebrate my birthday. Upon arriving to the property, our jaws dropped at its marvel. We were warmly greeted by the horses and barn cats. Our dog was also eager to make new friends. Everything was perfect. We were also so delighted to find a birthday cake and birthday card in the barn! Such a thoughtful touch by the hosts. We had no issues at all, and the hosts were very communicative. We had a wonderful hike to the top of Seneca Rocks, and despite the rain (Hurricane Ian) we made due with plenty of shopping and eating in the cozy towns of Davis and Thomas. We look forward to making this an annual trip! ##### Neil J. So when we found the Horse camp we were so happy to know we could still enjoy the beautiful countryside we have grown to love so much. Then knowing there were horses on the property made it all the better for we love animals and it has always been a dream of James’ to have a horse ranch of his own. So he was in a sense able to live his dream for a few days. We were even greeted by the barn cats (Crissy and Thomas I believe). Which was wonderful because we have kittys at home. It was dark when we got there but the light was left on for us and tv was on which made it feel like home. There were fresh tomatoes on the counter and a basket with supplies for s’mores. And what got me emotional is the bottle of champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and the little sign with our names on it as newlyweds. Such a sweet gesture. We woke up every morning to a beautiful view, sat on the porch at night looking at the stars, and fell asleep to the cricket’s singing. Was only able to get in the hot tub for a little because of the wind and it was calling for rain but was still able to enjoy it. This is definitely a place I’m recommending to family and friends. It’s a home away from home. Close to fun activities but still have the peaceful relaxing getaway that was much needed. The property manager was amazing as well. Always there to answer any questions we had even when we got lost and the gps took us to the property owners house. They were sweet as well. James even made the comment once getting directions from them how nice they were. Not knowing I was on the phone getting directions as well. Lol. I’d give 10 even 20 stars if I could! Séjour de 2 nuits en septembre 2022 ### 10/10 – Excellent #### Steve F., Alexandria, VA 7 août 2022 Points forts : Propreté #### Best option in the region My spouse, dog and I stayed at the Barn for 4 days, and the host's pictures, description, and Vrbo reviews that proceed mine are completely accurate! Despite only having a few reviews, they have a guest book dating back to 2011, so they are clearly experienced and well-liked hosts! This is the real deal. The property is very well-kept; it truly looks like somebody's home, and not worn like many other rental properties. Having nice, clean appliances and kitchen utensils made it nice to do meals at home. There are a ton of towels, so no need to re-use the same towel for an entire week. There's also nice newer washer and dryer if you needed to wash clothes. There's no dishwasher, but the deep double-sided sink along with provided soap, scrub brush, drying rack and plenty of hot water made this a non-issue. You should also read the other reviews to get an impression of the property, as we felt they are all accurate. I will point out a few important things not covered by others: - You will feel comfortable here at any temperature. There are two in-wall air conditioners, which helped dry things out and cool down during the heat of the day. There are also ceiling fans, which move air really well. Even on the hottest day, you should be set. It really cools down in the mountains at night, so we had the doors open and things cooled down nicely. There was also a dehumidifer on the ground level, which allowed our wet jackets from an earlier hike to air dry within hours. - If you're looking for a workcation, know there are some limits. There is little/no cell phone reception, and expect no 4G/5G data. I ran a fast.com speed test on the internet (DSL, over wifi) was tested at 1.3 Mbps down/1.7 Mbps up. So unless you have offline work, or are sparingly checking email, this is probably not a good fit for you. That being said, this is adequate for looking up maps, points of interest, reviews, etc. The host has also gone above-and-beyond with the guestbook by including a list of restaurants and points of interest, including Google review ratings, so internet is not a must here. We actually found this is a big selling point of the property: it kept us off of our devices and doing other things instead! - This is a dog-friendly property! We brought a blanket and toys for our dog to feel at home. The hosts have stainless steel food/water bowls and an elevated platform; we brought our own dog bowls, but that was a thoughtful touch. ##### Steve F. The owners were so nice and even left us a surprise. My wife loved the place. Didn’t want to leave. All the animals were a joy to interact with. My wife loved Chrissy the barn cat but was especially fond of the horse who loves Ginger cookies.. If you want a place all to yourself and not see any neighbors, if you want to see a sky like you’ve never seen before because there are no city lights…this is the place for you. Set outside in the evenings and enjoy the songs of the bull frogs in the pond and watch the Starlings dance around in the sky. We will definitely be back sooner than later. ##### Eric B. So many personal thoughtful gestures. Everything you need is provided by the property owners. Our dog Bandit made a new friend Maddie. We took carrots and apples to feed her. She was great. Before I give more details I would like to say this. The host was super cool and nice and promptly answered any and all questions. I also informed her that my wife and I like to get away to get privacy together away from the world. Merry Joe was totally cool and understanding of that and respected it completely. Now let's get to this place. It's ridiculous for anyone who is from the Midwest to wrap their head around living in these mountains. Getting to the property isn't difficult at all. I didn't find it frightening or anything. Before you get to the property you are driving up and up and up a mountain. Then all of a sudden your kind of at the top. The land levels our a bit but it's these big crazy roiling green hills. That sight alone is magnificent. I have been to the Smokies but I have never seen anywhere like this. Cattle and horses and sheep are scattered on people's farms. It's amazing I loved it. To specify, behind these rolling hills are big mountains jutting up. That's what made it so pretty. Now this is what my favorite part of the property was. I pull into the drive and make my way to the barn. I knew there was going to be a horse there and was excited for that. I was also happy that there were two barn cats. But I didn't expect just how awesome these barn cats were. I see cats in my neighborhood everyday. They bolt every time I approach them. These are indoor cats for the most part. So I pull in and I see two cats. The horse is also at the fence. It's like they were the welcoming committee. Could it be any better? I get out of the car and I walked towards the barn/house and these cats just both run up on us like we were old pals. Immediately wanted to be loved on. Like who has ever met a ridiculously sweet barn cat? They usually avoid people. These two love their fellow humans lol! Thomas the boy was a bit more hesitant and weary of me for the first day or so. Krissy though who is a Siamese is literally the sweetest most dog like cat I have ever met. I could walk outside anytime and make some noise and say come here girl. Within 15 seconds she comes trotting up. She was just the sweetest. Maddison is the horse. She is every bit as gentle and sweet. I bought her carrots and we became fast friends. I hated saying goodbye to her but I gave her some snacks and told her I hope to be back. This place is unique in every way and incredible in too many ways to count. I can't say enough about it but I am out of characters. ##### Adrian B. Séjour de 4 nuits en juin 2022 ### 10/10 – Excellent #### Karen E. 6 juin 2022 Points forts : Propreté #### Peaceful, remote and beautiful slice of heaven Our 10 year old grandson wanted to go hiking in West Virginia, and we were thrilled to find this barn rental. What a perfect fit for us! Our grandson loved playing with the friendly barn kitties and feeding cookies to the horse. Each evening, we enjoyed sitting in the hot tub and the gorgeous views that seem to go on for miles. Our stay was peaceful, remote, beautiful and relaxing. The home is unique and historic, sitting on 65 acres. It was centrally located to all the hikes we wanted to do. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the home was ideal for preparing all of our meals including an outdoor grill, on site condiments/spices and a fully equipped kitchen and refrig. We do recommend bringing all of your food and drink as shopping is not exactly right around the corner. Laundry facilities were a big bonus. The owners were extremely responsive throughout the whole process. In fact, when we needed some non-allergenic laundry detergent, Merry Jo ran some over personally within 15 minutes! We would highly recommend a stay at the barn and working with these owners. We can't thank them enough for a wonderful visit! ##### Karen E. Séjour de 4 nuits en mai 2022
