Not sure how to rate this hotel properly. The hotel really needs work to bring it back to its former glory. Having said that, rooms are big, bed is comfortable. Everything works and rooms are clean. 2 things that may score against it 1. There are no lifts 2. It is right next to St Joseph Cathedral, the bells toll every 15 minutes (very briefly). Those who are easily woken may find annoying.

Well located hotel, good service but basic rooms
We booked this hotel primarily due to it's great location in the heart of Hanoi, literally next to the cathedral square and a short walk from major attractions. The staff were very friendly and professional but the quality of the room was a little disappointing. The photos give an impression of a high quality room but in reality the room was average at best. There were only beds and no bedside tables, the bathroom had a transparent glass wall allowing you to see the feet and body outline of the person using it which was frankly quite bizarre. Also, there was no elevator and the room was on the 4th floor, although on arrival our bags were carried to our room it was difficult bringing them down in the morning. If you are looking for a crash pad while you are enjoying the city this place will be fine (as long as you are well acquainted with your room mate already!), but if you are planning to relax in the room then other options provide more comfort.

No Elevator
Their profile says they have elevator, l arrive check in and they want me to talk 4 flights of narrow stairs which means up and down everytime l leave room, at 69 years old this is not safe or healthy stsirs also slippery when it rained. Had to fight manager for what l booked they swapped hotels to a shoe box room and bathroom that was unusable as shower was super small OVER the toiket, I am 192cm only 105kgs, anyway everything was a fight, and even door keys old and hard to use, they agreed to credit first night and swap rooms next day l still had to climb one flight of stairs which l did cautiously. When checking out it was another fight about the agreed credit. Such terrible service and I emailed them twice 3 days before about it do check would be simple, they never replied to my emails.

Holiday in Hanoi
Hotel is very conveniently located within walking distance to shopping n eateries. Staff are all very friendly n they made out stay at the hotel a very memorable one. Hotel is right beside the st Joseph catholic cathedral. A beautiful quaint church. Hotel is quite clean but a bit old. Value for money though. Breakfast was included n there was a set menu for us to choose from. Limited choice though. It’s a 5 story walk up hotel with no elevator so be prepared ! Walking distance to the famous Hoan Kiem lake. 20 mins walk to the night market. Guests from Malaysia.

Overall, you can get way better value staying somewhere else. I am a pretty low maintenance traveler, but I often felt like I was inconveniencing the staff when I made requests or had questions. Downsides: the rooms facing the Cathedral are loud on the top floors--bells ringing, strange barking or pipes, etc.; there was black mold in one of our rooms; the shower fixtures were falling apart; one of our air conditioners kept breaking; 6th floor walkup with a lot of mosquitos in the hallways; no free breakfast which we didn't know until after the fact; staff attitude. Upsides: Perfect location for exploring old town; decent accommodations. I recommend staying across the alley at Splendid Grand (note: there are three "Splendid" hotels right next to each other). We spent a night there and it was fantastic.

Budget accomodation doesn't disappoint.
Tom, Hannah, Martin and Alex go out of their way to make your stay very pleasant. There are 3 Splendid hotels in very close proximity to each other. They provide free drinks including fresh juice on arrival and on request. Location is great and a 10 minute walk to Hoàn Kiếm Lake. Even closer to the Old Quarter.

Great boutique hotel in Hanoi old quarter
Splendid Star isa great little boutique hotel in the old quarter of Hanoi. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Aftet a month in Vietnam the very comfortable beds in a spacious suite were wonderful. The breakfasts were delicious. There is no elevator and our bell carried both our heavy suitcases to the 5th floor. We would stay here again.

Convenient hotel in a great location
This hotel is located in the heart of the old city across the street from St Joseph’s cathedral. The rooms are dated but comfortable and clean. Breakfast is very good, served in a small area in the ground floor, don’t be surprised if you have to wait a few minutes for a table to clear. The staff are wonderful, friendly and extremely helpful! The only drawback are the cathedral’s bell! If you are a light sleeper maybe this is not your best choice. Good value for money.

Situated in the heart of Hanoi
Great value for money. Well situated in the heart of Hanoi. Take note there are no lifts or elevators in this hotel. Had to climb 5 floors everyday, but I welcome the exercise. But other than this, it's clean, convenient, and very friendly staffs. Highly recommended

Horrible stay
It was awful. They gave us a room on 6th floor which was not in good condition as well at same tume there was no lift. Staff was rude and told me no other room was available. But in front of me some other gueat came and they checked him in. For them i was not a customer. Seems like they don't enterain online booking.

Good value for money
The hotel and staff overall are friendly, kind and helpful. Especially the manager very skillful. However, the first day, there was a problem with our room that we were not told until we booked some tours for the next couple of days. We were put in a worse room than the one we had booked. The following morning we had to pack our luggage to be transferred to another room before we leave for a day tour. We were put in a room with twin beds although the staff knew that we were a couple. This was a bit disappointing. However, the hotel is good value for money

Overall a good place and just next to St Joseph Cathedral. Helpful staff and good breakfast. Common factor in vietnam and hanoi esp in this style of hotel is that its noisy early on from 6am mostly from outside the hotel.

Church bells!!!
The hotel is right across from a church. The church bells rings (2-3 rings) every 15 minutes and then at 5 in the morning, the bells rings for 15 minute straight. Hotel condition is in really bad shape and the free breakfast is a very basic breakfast. You order from a menu and then breakfast gets cooked at a different hotel and then they bring it to you. Overall the hotel is very dissapointing.
