The home is very newly renovated, with modern decor and is kept immaculately clean. The sunroom brings in a lot of light, and I imagine the fire adds a nice atmosphere (though you can’t use it in the summer months). The kitchen supplies are very limited, which wasn’t an issue for us since we didn’t do any cooking during our stay, but I can see this being a problem for those wanting to cook larger meals. Acadia National Park is a solid 45-50 minute drive away, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this home if you plan on going to the park every day like we did. But Amanda’s notes included closer hiking paths and things to do more locally if that’s of interest. Highly recommend this VRBO if you’re sticking around the Hancock area! ##### Heidi B. There is another open room with no door at the bottom of the stairs adjacent to the bedroom with 2 beds which would be suitable for a family with children but it is not suitable for 2 couples. Also be aware that the sleeping area is located in the basement. The one air conditioner in the tiny half bath is not sufficient to provide cooling comfort for the first floor. Desert and Schoodic Pt) in the morning to avoid the crowds, and walked to explore the tidal falls each afternoon. It was an outstanding location and away from the hustle and bustle. We enjoyed catching crabs and seeing sea stars and seals at the tidal falls at low tide. The glass window porch was a great place to relax with the windows open and breeze blowing in the evenings. The sitting area under the car port was great in the heat of the day. Cooking tinsels were somewhat limited, but we made it work for us. It would have been nice to have a frying pan/skillet, and the sink faucet head was stuck on high spray mode which made everything wet with overspray if the water was turned on full. Overall, this was exactly the type of place we wanted. The beds were very comfortable, and the place worked well for our family. For those of you traveling East in summer to Maine, keep in mind the sun rises very early on the eastern side of the eastern time zone. It can be bright very early! There is plenty of room inside to spend time together or spread out in the delightful sunroom, living area, or bedrooms. The yard is big enough for outdoor games. The patio area is covered, so it’s possible to enjoy the outdoors even on a rainy day. The kitchen is well equipped with most everything you need to cook and have a nice meal at the dinner table. Both bedrooms are very nice and located on the lower (basement) level. If you are two couples traveling together rather than a family with children, you need to be aware that one bedroom is open to the stairway with no wall or door. The occupants of the main bedroom will have to go through the bedroom with two double beds to access their room. We considered this an ideal location with easy access to both main areas of Acadia National Park (Mt. Desert Island and the Schoodic Peninsula). Tidal Falls is SO close! (Two-minute drive or a ten-minute walk.) There is a picnic area at the falls with room for children to play. We enjoyed multiple visits at different tide levels to observe this rare phenomenon. Sep 2, 2021 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Fresh, Quiet, and Relaxing This was our first trip to Maine, and we had little context of where we wanted to go or stay. We visited during high season (August), and felt fortunate to find such a nice place to stay. The cottage is indeed recently remodeled/updated. Everything is fresh and new. The owner pays excellent attention to detail as all supplies are available and adequate. The kitchen is equipped with the perfect essentials - including plenty of paper goods since there is no dishwasher. The bedrooms are below. We don't live in an area that has basements, so I believe you would call it the basement. There are windows and natural light in both rooms. The owner provided a great de-humidifier since we were there during high humidity. We aren't big TV watchers, but the Smart TV was a little small,. It has the main streaming apps (HULU, Netflix, Prime...). We couldn't figure out how to add apps, and didn't want to take the time to work through it. The location is great. We walked to Rapid Falls several times. We were intrigued on how the water flows different directions at different times. We drove to Acadia National Park and surrounding areas daily. The couches were very comfortable and there were plenty of seats for everyone in our group. There were lots of windows on the main level which gave us some great views of the wildlife. However, there were no blinds, shades, or curtains on any of the windows. There were very minimal kitchen utensils or cooking supplies, although the grill and patio area was nicely arranged. There were tons of insects in the rental upon our arrival and throughout our stay. The air conditioning made the temperature comfortable on the main floor, but basement sleeping area was quite warm. The description and pictures of the basement bedrooms were misleading. There was a very lovely, large bathroom/laundry room in the basement. Although Amanda provided a dehumidifier, the basement still felt damp. The listing indicated there were two bedrooms. There was one bedroom with a door that closed. The second sleeping area was in the remaining open basement space. There was no door/privacy. The open sleeping space was exposed to the light and sound from the main floor, and it was very tough to sleep while anyone was using the main floor. ##### Jane W. She and her daughter have done a wonderful job with the remodel and they’ve created a space that’s warm and inviting. During our stay, it was unusually hot for the area (90+). It was great to have the air conditioning. However, as the rooms are on the lower level, stays nice and cool downstairs, regardless of whether the air is on or not. The small sun porch is very warm during the day, but at night, when the window are open with a cross breeze, it’s a fabulous place to relax, read, and stare up at the stars:-) The house was very clean and stocked with everything we needed to make our stay effortless. The location was perfect. It was quiet and peaceful and appears to be in a very safe location. There is a large enough yard for the kids to get out their wiggles and for yard games. It also has a great little outdoor seating area for relaxing and grilling. We loved the proximity of the property to “all the things”—it was far enough away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to Bar Harbor and both areas of Acadia that it didn’t feel like you were driving forever. The Tidal Falls are also very close, and we loved them!!! We visited almost every every evening to check out the sea life along the rocks at low tide—we saw SO many sea stars!!!! Amanda left multiple recommendations for things to do and even helped us find a very nice swimming hole for us all to cool off in. Overall, our stay was excellent and we would stay again in the future. Amanda was very easy to communicate with and the little home was the perfect getaway for our little family. ##### Samantha A. We killed many bugs and spiders. The house had a strong musty smell. The only window AC on the main floor was in a bathroom-keep the door open to cool the main floor. Small tv in the living room for the size of the room. Bathroom rugs were dirty. The beds were in the basement. House was great, thanks to the hosts for easy and fast communication. Perfect distance to both Bar Harbor and Acadia Basement bedrooms stayed nice and cool for sleeping (there in June), appreciated the sun room and living area upstairs for a rainy day (game time!)
