There is lots of light, great views & a very restful feeling. Single wall redwood was the preferred building style back in the day. It is beautifully painted to accentuate the style of the time. The floor plan is open to enjoy the living dining & kitchen areas while taking in the views. There is a full kitchen for cooking up island fish & fare and other tropical treats. The bedroom is cool and comfortable with a king bed. In the living room are two pune'e or day beds that could accommodate children in addition. It is called the Old Style since it was once the old vicarage house of the Wai'oli Mission. The lanai is a fabulous place to relax at the end of a hard day lounging around on the beach or discovering more of Kauai. You are about 4 blocks to Hanalei town with its cool shops and restaurants. Nice walk home after dinner. There is a washer & dryer set in a newly renovated laundry hut just steps away for your laundry needs and a hot & cold outside shower for after the beach. Folks love this house & we have many returning guests. \*Listed rate is for the Standard Occupancy of 2, but home can accommodate up to 4\. Extra guest fee beyond two is $20+tax /per night / per person. Only 2 extra guests are allowed and this fee is collected after booking. The State of Hawaii requires a rental agreement. The rental agreement has different cancellation policies than VRBO. Please be aware that when you book this house or any accommodations by the ocean in Hawaii, not on a bluff, you are booking in a tsunami evacuation zone. Evacuation instructions will be in the house and notice of the tsunami evacuation zone will be part of your contract. Also, please know that we cannot accommodate charging of electric vehicles at this property at this time. It’s set back from the water so it’s quieter than being right on the beach while still providing great views and an easy walk to the water. We were pleasantly surprised at the kitchen which was remarkably well stocked with cooking supplies so that we could eat in most nights. It’s a quick drive or short walk to Hanalei town and the weekly Farmer’s Market is right down the street so you can get away with not having to drive if you don’t want to. The house is a cute, comfy escape and we hated to leave. Walking the beach and watching the surfers was one of the highlights of our trip. Not many people on the beach until the weekend, which was great, and even then, it was fun. Walked into town to do a little shopping, and we ate at a Thai food truck that had some of the best food we have ever eaten. At this time of year (March) most of the activities take place on the other side of the island. At first we thought this could be an inconvenience, but then we realized this also meant most of the people were on that side too, so the drive was worth it. We loved waking to the chorus of birds every morning, the quiet pace of Hanalei, and just being in such beauty. We went to a sunrise Easter service on the pier, got to watch Bethany Hamilton and a bunch of younger kids surfing the bay one afternoon, and were amazed by the beautiful beaches nearby. We had boogie boards and rented a paddle board, used both on the bay in front of the house. We will definitely recommend your houses to anyone looking for a place to stay in Hanalei. The house had plenty of room for a family of 4, was clean, looked just like the photos, and was so convenient to both the beach and town. We loved snorkeling at Tunnels and Kee, were able to visit Queens Bath on a calm surf day, and were stunned by the beauty of Secret Beach. It's easy to spend the day walking the beach to watch the surfing and to visit the town for the small shops and restaurants. The cottage is vintage, but adequate. The kitchen is well equipped. The hot water was sufficient for me, but could run out for a larger group (especially teenagers). The internet connection was reliable; the TV package was mostly high school sports (national networks only on weekends); the electricity went out once for four hours at night. The only problem was the occasional heavy rains, which are becoming more frequent. Those somewhat limit the outdoor activities, and could cutoff access to Hanalei. The road out was almost cut off the day before I left and was totally cut off the day after I left. Overall it is a great place, but it's not for everyone. ##### Gregory B. Family weddings in the area both times. We love the place. Our access to Hanalei and the beach kept us just happy to stay around the area. We did not feel the need to drive somewhere every day. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our second stay at “Old Style” and it won’t be our last. It’s a little piece of paradise and the perfect place to rest and reset your body, soul and mind. The views are spectacular, and others must think so as well, since we watched 2 beach weddings from our front window. Don’t let that fool you, the beach is not crowded at all, and just a mile walk down the beach to the Hanalei Pier. The home is modest but cozy and quiet (except for the roosters, but you get used to that). I can’t even imagine staying anywhere else when visiting Kauai. ##### Deborah B.
